Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, service and ambiance. Marea is the perfect place to bring visitors and friends---also to celebrate any special occasion. No matter how many times we eat there, we are still "wow-ed.""

  • "I had lunch at Marea with a friend a couple of days ago. We had the 5 course seasfood tasting menu which was absolutely fantastic. The service was efficient and non-intrusive. A great foodie haunt."

  • "We were first seated on a table in a corner near the window, but the air conditioning was freezing, so we asked if they could turn it lower. It didn't really help, so eventually, we changed tables. It got a bit better, although it was pretty cold anyways. The food was definitely something to talk about; We had some sashimi's and a salad as starters and the fish and seafood were incredibly fresh, every bite was delicious! As main dishes, my husband had an octopus and bone marrow risotto who always thinks is fantastic and I had a vegetarian platter which was also outstanding! The people were very nice. The prices are veryhigh, but if you know where you are going and you appreciate nice food, quality and service, definitely worth every cent!"

  • "We really enjoy the food. This place served the best ravioli even better than many restaurants in Italy. The service was splendid. Love it!"

  • "I was excited to dine here based on the menu but a little put off by prior reviews of snobby service. I did not have that experience at all. My waiter, Mark, was pleasant, friendly, informed and down to Earth while still being respectful. The bussers were also pleasant and appropriately personable. I didn't feel judged or like I was a bother at all. Everyone was helpful regarding seating, ordering, clearing, etc. As to the food, it was excellent. Pricey for sure, but worth it. Nothing worse than spending money on something I don't thoroughly enjoy. I would eat here again and again if it was financially possible. Our waiter made good suggestions as to amount of food and what to try. Loved the entire experience."

  • "I never really understood how someone could cry in response to good food. I was aware that people said this on Food Network shows and the like, but after eating dinner at Marea, I understand how that's possible. Beyond the food, the service was extraordinarily attentive and kind. I've never had a better dining restaurant - in fact, I thought this level really only existed in movies - and I may be ruined for all other restuarants - at least those that don't have the 2 Michelin stars..."

  • "I chose this restaurant for having a menu that included vegetarian options and fresh sea food. The waiter happily provided vegetarian alternatives in addition to the ones listed in the menu. The person who enjoys raw sea food enjoyed her selections, raving about one of the 6 oysters that were an assortment sourced from different states. Can't remember which state produced that fantastic oyster, but it triggered some excited comments from her. Also chose the restaurant for the space between tables. I've eaten at NYC restaurants, jammed in with the other sardines. I was very comfortable and could easily hear the others at the table. Too often, the noise level destroys the joy of dining out, but not so for us that evening."

  • "We ordered the tasting menu and wine pairing as an anniversary treat. All exceeded our expectations. The food ingredients and the quality of the preparation were outstanding. The service was exemplary. I recommend Marea as a special treat venue."

  • "Marea resoundingly deserves it's 2-star Michelin rating. Amazing combination of ingredients and favors, beautifully presented. One of the best wine lists I have seen in a long time."

  • "After a very slow start with placing our order the experience went well. The restaurant serves seafood with an Italian twist. All food tasted great. A goo deco ice near central park"

  • "Loved it the first time; not so much the second. Our bronzino was served lukewarm and our servers forgot one of our side dishes. Had to keep asking to have our water glasses refilled."

  • "Brunch/pre-theatre (easy walk from hotel): great location, superb cuisine/service, unique menu: grilled octopus is outstanding (had 2 portions since first was so special). The shrimp gnocchi perfect. Asparagus crab specialty also. Poached halibut perfect. Try their unique Negroni as well as the cucumber cocktail to start. No disappointments and good value for all of this: Dined for 2 hrs., no rush, 3 menu selections (6/couple, you should share with each other to enjoy to the fullest), paired wine selections/course via server=excellent + 2 cocktails) all for $300 including tip. Will never forget the S. Central Park view, quiet ambience, respectful service. This is a jewel, recommended by friends and we will return ASAP!"

  • "there are very few restaurants that I can call incredible. But MAREA is the only exception to that list. Do go if you can."

  • "The food was very good but pretentious waiter was ridiculous . Great drinks at the bar with lovely bartenders. Too many better restaurants in NYC is you only have a week or so...."

  • "I have always liked Marea but fell in love with it this time. The food has possibly gotten even better, although it was always wonderful. The service has always been exceptionally thoughtful and attentive. They never interrupt your conversation, they never keep you waiting, their recommendations are always wise. Thoroughly special and delightful."

  • "Excellent food, excellent service, with friendly chat and attention to every single detail. Glad that Ricci, Marea's signature appetizer, was served this time. It is such an amazing combination of lard and sea urchin."

  • "I had wanted to dine at Marea for some time, and used the event of my Birthday this year to do so. I had read mostly very good reviews, and I must say I was not disappointed. We were seated in a very timely manner, and the host was excellent. The room was elegant and tasteful and you felt like you were seated at a fine restaurant without pretensions, but modern and, well, special. We ordered the tasting menu, which the waiter assured us was a very good choice. Each of the five courses were delicious, especially the second course which were Morel Mushrooms stuffed with foie gras over buerre blanc. Perfection. Everything about the meal was a delight. One of my favorites in NYC."

  • "Marea is a busy, 1 Michelin star Ialian restaurant at Columbus circle in NYC. The food is extremely good. The service indifferent and hurried. The 99$ 4 course menu is a fair price for the quality of food. My choices were the grilled octopus (POLIPO), the shrimp and seppia ragu pasta (ORECCHIETTE), the black sea bass (SPIGOLA NERA) and the TORTA DI FRAGOLE for dessert. They were all excellent."

  • "This is one of my favorite spots in NYC. I return to only a few restaurants in the city because there are so many good ones However, Marea is worth coming back and back and back. Food is excellent--do the 4 courses. Service is also top notch."

  • "I was disappointed with the attitude of service. It started at the check in and continued throughout the meal. We were made to feel like the maitre 'd and servers were doing us a favor in helping us. This is disappointing given the high quality of food."

  • "Top rated dining experience. Delicious cuisine and impeccable service. Worth the expense. Outstanding! At the top of my list of restaurants in NYC. Well paced relaxing dinner"

  • "Searching on internet for a gourmet table in New-York, we found Marea. The menu degustation with italian wines was excellent. We are not pasta's fan, but the home made penne were divine. Overall excellent. Only minus point to the reception'people, we were not wellcomed."

  • "The food was excellent. I took my family of three and with one $150 bottle of wine had a bill of $750. It would definitely be one of my favorites, but not a weekly affair."
