Wonderful food! We shared a Dungeness crab appetizer and the Amelia's chopped salad. I had the sweetbreads and my companion had a steak that she declared as the best of her life. The food was Perfection.
The only drawback of this lovely place is that it is in a shopping mall (South Coast Plaza).

Our table server struck a good balance between being friendly and available but not obtrusive, overly familiar or chatty. She was highly knowledgeable of the cuisine and its preparation, and was a foodie as well as a disciple of the chef. Note: we could tell the server for the table behind us was not nearly skilled or enthusiastic.
This choice location in the 3rd floor of South Coast Plaza has seen several restaurants; this latest incarnation is perhaps the best of the bunch. We wanted the tasting menu and a wine arrangement, but to our disappointmnet is was not available. So we ate "a la carte". The four of us had different courses and all thought the food was absolutely delicious. We had asked the waiter to help us with finding the right glasses of wine for each course. Unfortunately he was not very professional and invariably ended up recommending the most expensive wines. This is rather stupid because by making the wrong combinations you can ruin that specific course.
