A word from Marche
Marche, located in Eugene, Oregon, opened in August 1998. The restaurant, which seats 80 guests, has an exhibition kitchen featuring a beautiful wood-fired oven. There is also a stylish bar and a large outdoor dining area, covered with awnings and umbrellas and surrounded by a garden of herbs and edible flowers. Marche takes its name from the French word for market – a word that describes our location in the bustling 5th street Market and more importantly, our philosophy of cooking. The menu is based on the foods one would find at a farmer’s market: fresh, seasonal, and regional. Marche is committed to using only those ingredients that are at their best, so our menu evolves as we move through the seasons of the year. Marche also believes in using the highest quality and most healthful ingredients available and to that end use organic, free range, and chemical free products. The culinary technique is French-based: intensely flavored and simply but beautifully presented.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food is only adequate for vegetarians. Had to request a plate of veggies. My carnivore friends enjoyed the fish dishes. The noise level was unacceptable. We had to move into the bar area which was somewhat less noisy. The server couldn't even hear himself give out the specials. We couldn't hear our own conversations. I probably would go to Marche more often were it not for the noise. May I suggest you do something about sound-proofing the ceiling and walls? Also consider white wines from New Zealand, especially the Marlborough area."

  • "We've eaten many times at Marche but this dining experience was superb. We ate outside on a very warm evening and had superb service by waitress identified as Fortier on receipt. She said she had been working at Marche for a couple of months but gave wonderful advice on the menu and wine list. She remained very efficient as the tables around us filled. One common annoyance at Marche that was not caused by her, was the often long delay after ordering a second glass of wine when served the dinner. It seems the bar tenders give total priority to customers at the bar. I've had my meal go cold before the wine arrived."

  • "My family dined in honor of my husband's birthday and the experience was absolutely perfect. We were greeted warmly by the hostess the minute we walked in the door. The waiter was exceptional: Very attentive without being overbearing. In fact, he may have been the best of a long line of excellent and professional wait staff at Marche. The food, as always, was delicious. I love the atmosphere here the most and I think Le Bar has been a terrific addition. I love seeing the cooks at work. I love the decor and the combination of booths, high tops, and outdoor seating and that each section of the restaurant has a different character. This restaurant can accommodate many different sizes! Thank you for helping to make the occasion so special!"

  • "First time at Marche. Food was fantastic, with owner touching-base to make sure it was. Salmon was cooked to perfection and presented in a decorative/ colorful plating, and was bouillabaisse was perfect; fish not overcooked. Sat outdoors on a rare gorgeous day, and together with the food and service the overall seemed liked a café experience in France."

  • "Haven't been to Marche for awhile but went quite frequently in the past. Had stopped going as the prices were going up but the service was declining and the food was becoming just okay. Very pleased that the food quality was excellent on this visit. The atmosphere is more casual than in the past, but the service was attentive."

  • "The food was good. I am into this type of cuisine (though my husband's not, but he made out okay). Plus we had a very unusual bottle of wine which we enjoyed very much (Teutonic Pinot Meunier)."

  • "This was one of the best meals we have had in the last few months! Well presented, well made, and well, enjoyed! Our server, Bill, was on the spot when we needed him but did not hover. The combinations of ingredients was perfect and LOCAL. A nice touch at the end of a fine meal was a cheese plate with fresh cherries and gooseberries! If you have a chance, please give them a try!"

  • "Visited on Saturday morning for brunch after arriving from out of town. Second visit in two years, the first was dining outside for dinner. You can't go wrong with Marche, consistently very, very good with moderate pricing. I'll be back on my next visit to Eugene."

  • "Marche is a wonderful place to dine. The food is excellent and the menu changes at least each season. The staff is very attentive and remembers repeat diners and their usual orders almost always."

  • "Marche is an excellent restaurant for luncheon business meetings. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent. I always enjoy bringing family, friends and clients to Marche because I know everyone will enjoy themselves. And parking was not an issue. "

  • "Wow...what a great place, including neighboring bars and stores that are evidently part of the "Marche" group. We had an incredible experience at their kitchen bar...the clams frittes and hamburgers are highly recommended, but everything we saw coming from the kitchen looked perfect. We'll be back!"

  • "Superbly prepared salmon and lamb. Wonderful drinks, soup, wine, and dessert. Charming and attentive service. Only downside was that it was a bit noisy due to the nearby large group. But all in all an very enjoyable evening. "

  • "We chose this place because we wanted to sit outside if the weather was nice. We got a beautiful setting, the food was wonderful and the service was great. We had a good selection and were offered just the right amount of service, no hovering but good attention. We didn't feel rushed and we thoroughly enjoyed our time."

  • "The food quality and presentation were fabulous. The portion size was perfect, allowing my husband and me to enjoy an appetizer, main course and two desserts. We has an excellent bottle of wine and throughly enjoyed ourselves. We had breakfast/brunch there on a Saturday as well and the food was delicious. We will eat there every time we are in Eugene!"

  • "Too noisy, food served was barely warm (they did "reheat" one rather unappetizing dish rather than redo as they should have), wait staff seemed too busy. For what should be a high end restaurant, this was disappointing. We have had some very good meals there, and others sadly less so."

  • "Excellent food. Relaxed ambience. Felt we could have received more attention from the waitstaff."

  • "Prices were high-$18 for 2 crab cakes 2 1/2 inches across. the pork chop was good and it was adequate size. I had rabbit OK nothing to write home about. service very slow we were there during a convention which noted which eateries were giving a discount for showing our badge. Asked our waitress she knew nothing about it and asked the Manager. He told her they weren't honoring the discount. Disappointing"

  • "We have the pleasure of dining at Marche when we visit our daughter in college. I have NEVER been disappointed. The menu is always interesting. I try something new every time with such delight. Marche takes advantage of the season when preparing their menus. Everything is always so fresh. I can't wait to see what they do for our college graduation dinner next month!"

  • "As usual, Marché never ceases to amaze with sumptuous dishes. The staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is classy but not stuffy. Wish I could keep this place a secret, but it's just too difficult not to tell everyone about it! "

  • "Marche was simply fabulous. They received us warmly, sat us at a perfect cloth covered table, and were very attentive to our needs. Not so much that they were bothersome - but warmly helpful. The food was simply outstanding - fresh, tasty, prepared with an attention to detail that you find at only the finest restaurants. Marche' is a Crown Jewell for Eugene."

  • "Marche hit the high notes with a specialty radish salad, fantastic carrot soup, the best potato au gratin I have ever had, wonderful ham with morel mushrooms, and a great dessert with strawberries and a rhubarb puree. A glass of great Savoie bubble. What could be better to top up a great noon time Easter Dinner. "

  • "Living in Eugene we have eaten at Marche many times through the years, often to not full satisfaction. Everything from extremely slow, mediocre service, nothing on the menu we wanted, not very vegetarian-friendly, some meals not that great, and overpriced. I used a gift certificate and took my family there for Easter dinner. Was pleasantly surprised, as all our meals were very good and so was the service. They willingly moved us to a quieter table, too. Still overpriced in my book, but hoping they're generally on the up."

  • "I brought my family from out of town to this restaurant for the 1st time. We all loved it. It was a little pricier than expected but it was well worth every penny. Eating there for one night made me feel like I was on vacation with my family. Thanks for the great night!"

  • "We brought a visiting scholar to dinner at Marche following a talk that other graduate students and I had organized at UO earlier that evening. The six of us (four grad students, one faculty, and the guest speaker) enjoyed excellent locally sourced seasonal appetizers and wine before our excellent main courses. Everyone was impressed by the food and service. It was very comfortable and conducive to conversation. Wish I could afford to go more!"

  • "The food and wine was excellent. My only disappointment is that I ordered a bordeaux wine and at the last sip ended up with a mouth full of sediment (serious amount was left in the glass. The waiter should have automatically removed the $10 charge for the glass but did not. I had to ask him to do that. "

  • "We had a birthday dinner at Marche. The food was great, especially the entrees, but the service was very poor. The waiter was nice, pleasant, etc, but it took almost 30 minutes to get our drinks, and the wait to take our main dish order then wait for food was REALLY long. The whole meal took over three hours. Maybe they were short staffed that night, but it definitely colored our experience. I won't be returning anytime soon."

  • "We picked this restaurant based on the excellent review it got in The Oregonian. Made our reservations on the way down to visit with our daughter, who is a student at U of O. The service and food were both outstanding. It was a gorgeous spring day so we decided to dine on their patio. Couldn't have been happier!"

  • "The best feature of the service on this visit was the pace. Marche was in no hurry to get us out. We had a special occasion and wanted to enjoy. Food was well made and interesting but not the best I have seen from them in the past. Price is high even compared to high end Portland restaurants."

  • "Our group of three adults came in for one of Marche's French Regional Dinner - The Loire Valley - with wine tasting flight. We love these meals because they give us a chance to taste food we normally do not have a chance to eat. The sommelier personally gave us expert information about each wine we tasted. Another enjoyable night at Marche!"
