A word from Marche
Marche, located in Eugene, Oregon, opened in August 1998. The restaurant, which seats 80 guests, has an exhibition kitchen featuring a beautiful wood-fired oven. There is also a stylish bar and a large outdoor dining area, covered with awnings and umbrellas and surrounded by a garden of herbs and edible flowers. Marche takes its name from the French word for market – a word that describes our location in the bustling 5th street Market and more importantly, our philosophy of cooking. The menu is based on the foods one would find at a farmer’s market: fresh, seasonal, and regional. Marche is committed to using only those ingredients that are at their best, so our menu evolves as we move through the seasons of the year. Marche also believes in using the highest quality and most healthful ingredients available and to that end use organic, free range, and chemical free products. The culinary technique is French-based: intensely flavored and simply but beautifully presented.Continued

  • "The food was expensive but absolutely worth it. A different experience than anywhere in Eugene. The beef tenderloin was the best piece of meat I have ever had. When I finished eating it the feeling was just pure satisfaction, like after really good sex. The service was amazing, our water was always full and there was never a wait, they paid attention and knew when we were ready. It was a little small and our table was kind of cramped but it was ok because it added to the ambiance of being in a small cafe in France, which I have never been but it is what I imagine it would be like. Once you adjust and get comfortable though you forget all about how close your fellow foodies are. Love, love, love this place."

The food was very good, with the exception of the fruit plate: a few thin slices of pear, apple and a few chunks of pineapple do not add up to a $5 fruit plate.   • "We have been to Marche several times. The service on this occasion was not great. It took more than an hour to get our meals. We had to ask for drink service and even then, it was quite awhile before our waiter arrived to take our order. We were offered one half glass of wine as compensation after we finally asked when our dinner was arriving and this was appreciated. Additionally, we never heard of any specials and we were never asked if we would like another full glass of wine. The food was excellent for most of our party. However, the pork chop was not cooked through and was very salty. While we would recommend this restaurant, we were disappointed in our experience this particular visit."

  • "The oysters were very fresh and tasty. The charcuturie was good but not noteworthy for someone who has tried many. Mainly because the selection was limited. But the dessert was in a class by itself. The chocolate was very good. But the semifreddo was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Overall, we would certainly come back to try the rest of the menu and repeat on the dessert."

  • "We enjoyed a fantastic meal in an upscale but "Eugene" casual environment. The staff was attentive & knowledgable I had the smoked pork chop & was very pleased to find it cooked medium instead of well as many still believe is necessary. It was flavorful, tender & juicy. The beet salad was delightful. He had the beef medalion that was a tender & succulent & he had the oysters & was in heaven. We enjoyed several wines from the "by the glass" section. We started with the Trocadero Brut Blanc de Blanc and it was bubbly and light & fruity. With dinner I had the Anne Amie Pinot Gris and it was a lovely compliment to the pork. He had the Joseph Drouhin Pinot Noir and it was a deep, complex wine that paired with the beef beautifully."

  • "We eat here often enough to see the rhythm of menu changes: about once a month to conform to seasonal changes in the locally available, mostly organic, fresh food. Within that cycle there are daily and weekly specials that are not on the menu. This night I ate the end of the rabbit stew from the last cycle that ended yesterday. Delicious with wild mushrooms, onions carrots a very tasty thick broth and delicious dumplings. Yum! As a starter. I had the caramelized Brussels sprouts that came with a delicious beef broth, still on the menu. Dessert? Hazelnut crunch ice cream with caramel sauce. Service as always was very friendly and careful without being intrusive. Marché is far and away my favorite restaurant in Eugene."

  • "Their hood under which they cook is underpowered. We were sat in the back auxiliary dinning room with no ambiance because the main dining room was being choked out with grease smoke from the grill. I guess they have a happy hour burger and if too many people order it the hood becomes over loaded.. If I were the owners I would upgrade..... Other patrons were complaining and asked to be moved several times putting some tension in the atmosphere. The food use just OK, nothing special the steak was over cooked. and the fish preparation was not well thought out, in a larger more competitive dining scene they would be left in the dust, but Eugene is small enough for them to remain open."
