A word from Marche du Sud
Marché du Sud is inspired by markets of the Mediterranean region and their gastronomic specialties.

We are a gourmet French market, restaurant, bakery, and wine bar all under one roof.

Toward the front of Marché du Sud are homemade croissants, breads, pastries and tarts.

As you move along, our ceiling height wooden shelves are filled by gourmet olives, couscous, condiments, and soups you name it, we have it.

Toward the back cases of cheeses and charcuterie responsible for our nine variations of French pizzas.

Diner Reviews
  • "At brunch the other day a server delivered plates to the wrong tables. Between us diners we figured out who was supposed to get what, although some items had to be remade (not everyone inventories their omelet contents before digging in). The mix-up was unfortunate but it happens. If any of the three servers (who all seemed to be working the same tables) made a genuine apology it would have been forgotten. Not apologizing was the least of it, though. Unfortunately the servers didn't seem to realize that the bathrooms are right around the corner, maybe six feet away, from the pass-through kitchen window where they congregated to discuss how stupid their patrons were for accepting the wrong plates in the first place."

  • "Prices reasonable, food okay but service is desultory, to say the least. Orange juice served last, portions small, the back room is cluttered and unattractive."

  • "Overall unimpressed with my recent visit on Father's Day. They appeared to be under staffed, and although the waitresses were doing the best they could to keep up, they didn't meet my expectations... It's disappointing because they are right around the corner from where we live."

  • "The food was marvelous! we had a cheese plate (could select the types) and it was a business lunch, so we needed to eat within an hour. Ea of us ordered something different, from hamburger to omlette, pizza and salad! My omlette was perfect and the side of fries was wonderful. Great service and as we were there at 1 pm, there were few other customers. we all said we'd be back!"

  • "A great place to have some drinks and delicious light fare. The "French" pizza was light and very tasty, and for salad lovers the beet salad was layered beets, goat cheese and lettuce, very delicious. My friends enjoyed the white sangria."

  • "We came here for Mother's Day (chosen primarily for geographic reasons). There was a special brunch menu for the occasion. The food was good, particularly the "French" dishes, like the tartes; but the salads and risottos seemed skimpy and not quite special enough for the occasion. It would have been nice to have a bread basket as a normal feature; although I imagine they would have supplied one if asked. Good espresso. Service was attentive and efficient. A pretty place, attractive, not overly fancy or fussy, but nice; it was what we were expecting and wanted. The back garden looked lovely. A friendly place. "

  • "Everything you read in other reviews about the service here is true -- i.e. It is not stellar. The wait staff is nice, just not super attentive, so if you are a Type A with limited time, you may not be happy. For our crowd of 14, it would have been nice to have coffee served more frequently, and the pepper mill appear quicker, but the trade off was really superior food. Try the omelettes, burger, or the French pizza. Don't miss the raisin croissant. On balance, being able to get a brunch reservation for 14 people at a place like this made for a great family reunion. We recommend this spot, and will return to try lunch or dinner!"

  • "It was my wife's birthday, and she wanted to have a group of her closest friends with her for brunch. This place easily accommodated for our party of 13 in the back, garden room for a Sunday 2pm reservation. The atmosphere was very relaxed, the service was extremely accommodating, and the food just made it so special for everyone there. We all enjoyed our time."

  • "It's like stepping into a Parisian cafe. everything on the menu is authentic and delicious. I recommend any of the Famous French Pizzas, but I do love La Marche du Sud, with a glass of Saint-Émilion Bordeaux."

  • "The food was great. Menu limited us to valentine's day special . The waiter recommended was helpful with the wine. Overall the restuarant was good for last minute plans."

  • "The food was fine. Not great, not bad. And, it was affordable for Manhattan (we were there for brunch). The service was, at best, ambivalent."

  • "I chose Marche du Sud for a Saturday morning brunch with family because the menu offered a nice variety of breakfast foods (both sweet and savory) as well as lunch type foods. The food was lovely and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. I would go again."

  • "Never fails! Delicious French flavored food especially the light flaky pizza with amazing toppings like cheese and honey...A must! Service was very attentive and we enjoyed the back room sitting which would become a garden in the summer months. Will definitely come back :)"

  • "Three Latin Americans met our French friend (hailing from Alsace, where tartes flambées are from) and had a cozy, quiet, lovely evening conversation and a great tasting of four of Marché du sud's best tartes flambées. The wine was great too!"

  • "Really mediocre food, poor service, not very clean, and really not an enjoyable environment for a meal."

  • "I met a good friend for lunch and we sat in the back atrium area. Very cute ambiance, rustic, "country French" decor. It was mostly empty (we arrived at 1 p.m.), but even with that, the waiter wasn't too attentive. And it looked like we were the only table he had. Go figure... We split a Salade Marché du Sud with goat cheese fritters (superb!), figs, candied walnuts, julienne of romaine, shaved organic apple, lavender honey vinaigrette. Delish, even though the salad leaves were wilted and sad. We had French pizzas, chicken and vegetarian, both quite delicious! Overall, it was a very good dining experience and I would definitely return."

  • "We were looking for a place for breakfast on a Sunday around 10 am near our hotel. This place was close.. Very good breakfast, 3-4 choices of prix fix. We had the Omelette . Not enough servers. The server offered more coffee, I said yes, but he never came back with it - but the food was good"

  • "Had a lovely early lunch....very relaxing, quiet, no rush , attentive service. We requested some meats and cheeses that were not on the menu. We were provided with the evening menu to choose! Food was fresh and delicious..........had a nice sized salad with yummy seasoned chicken. My guest had a huge burger and fries.....I noticed an area in the rear that looked like it was outdoors."

  • "We had a large group so we were needier than others. They kept messing up my poor friend Tanya's order, forgetting her cappuccino, giving her a mimosa instead and then forgetting what she ordered. Maybe they don't like pretty girls. Lol! Service took a while but again we had a large group and we were all recovering from the previous evening so I felt like it was the longest brunch ever. Food was tasty and fresh juice was appreciated."

  • "We had the dinner for two special whih was a gig, walnut, and apple salad + 2 tarte flambé's + creme brûlée. Everything was excellent. We both left full and happy."

  • "We love the "pizzas" at Marche Du Sud, but that is not all they have. The charcuterie and cheese platters are excellent. If you love French wine, they have many selections at reasonable prices. Always a fun night out."

  • "Only recommended if you have plenty of time to wait for an excellent tarte flambee. However, inattentive service and a high noise level test will test your patience."

  • "Food was excellent but the waiter left us hanging after dinner. He was occupied more with the large parties in the back. We ordered 3 soufles, waited for 30 minutes and they only sent one. Overall. A big disappointment."

  • "Came back for a second visit and loved it again! The food was delcious and the service was courteous: They were very attentive to our every need and were happy to oblige when we wanted to change tables and even when we asked to have to heat on. Very pleasant staff and oh, one of the best pizzas in town! You must try their brie and honey pizza: Real different and delicious. Will definitely come again :)"

  • "We LOVE MDS. The tarts (pizzas) taste just like what you'd get somewhere in Provence while sipping on a delicious rose. The staff is always amazing, and they make us feel like we're right at home. Please try this wonderful little UES gem."

  • "The menu (all pizza) was disappointing, and so was the service. They brought the wrong bottle of wine. The "outside garden" area in the back is delightful, but we wouldn't be coming back."

  • "the enclosed patio was perfect for a sunny New York lunch without bugs or traffic! the thin crust pizza was fantastic!"

  • "Not only did we have to beg for menus at our large group but it felt as if they were doing us a favor to bring us the food. The waiter never asked if anyone wanted another drink. When we asked to see dessert menus they only gave 3 for a party of 10. Total attitude with a cherry on top. Portions are very small - and while the food is fine would never go there again - this was not the first time that I have been there,"

  • "This is a great little neighborhood place for brunch. The food is really fresh and the menu is terrific. Great service."
    Dined on 5/4/2013
  • "I had visited there a few times, but the service was never good. This time, worse! Maybe it was because we sat at the patio, but someone should have checked us and others time to time. We had a hard time to order and get our food. After we ate our appetizers and waited for pizze for a while, our waitress asked us if we ate appetizers. Didn't she know what we were served? After we waited 15 minutes for our coffee, cheese and desert, no one seemed to bring anything. We could check with our waitress if she was around, but she or any other people came to patio for 15 minutes. We canceled our dessert and left."

  • "Great and diverse food. Never had such a great experience with french restaurant since I moved to New York City. Also, my girlfriend purchased some ''Pate de Campagne'' from the deli and it appears to be the best we have bought so far in the city. I will be back soon for another diner and expected to try some different plates and wine."

  • "We sat for Sunday brunch. This place has authentic French flare/style. The room is narrow: the bar then further into the room small close tables filled with happy people(some children). Even further into the space you see lots of light and realize there is some sort of outdoor space. Completely enclosed. Transluscent ceiling. Well heated. *Great little space for a private gathering. Typical French offerings on the menu executed divinely. Relaxed yet attentive servers.Young and cute if that matters. As we leave we enter the other treasure of this establishedment, the market. It can be reached within the restaurant or from its own entrance street side.Filled with authentic French favorites: chocolates, cured meats,sardines,pastries,coffee..."
