A word from Marchand's Bar & Grill
According to the City Guide Tampa Bay, "The “Grand Lady of the Bay” is home to Marchands Bar & Grill, a swank eatery that keeps vigil over the downtown marina. Remodeling efforts emulate the Mediterranean decor present throughout the Renaissance Vinoy Resort while utilizing rich woods and marbles. Keeping up with changes in guest expectations and healthier lifestyles, the menu also reflects a brand new era -- gone are the tired sauces and a heavier fare of yesteryear. In their place, the menu reflects the flavors of the Mediterranean with touches of other global influences, such as a macadamia-encrusted fish might be served with a papaya or mango salsa, while the lamb is redolent of the most virgin olive oil with touches of fresh rosemary. Careful preparation coupled with exquisite presentation renders each plate an experience. This is dining to be savored, not merely experienced."Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant is situated in an expanded lobby/atrium. Very noisy and not cozy or private. I would not recommend for a quite romantic outing. The food was average for the price. The service provided is minimal. Definitely it is not a repeat destination. "

  • "We have been to this restaurant may times and it seems that it takes forever to get you dinner. It took 25 minutes to get my husands appetizer and another 25 minutes to get our entree. The food was very good but the service needs to improve, the restuarant only had a few tables taken."

  • "We had brunch (on the pricey side) and the food was typical hotel brunch fare but well prepared. The service was, however, outstanding and atmosphere was wonderful."

  • "We shared a nice bottle of Talbott Pinot Noir and we munched on the always-fresh and always-hot amazing bread, bouncing between a wonderful crusty white sourdough and an equally tasty thick pumpernickel with raisins (two butter options, too - regular whipped butter, along with a blueberry/lemon/honey whipped butter concoction that was delicious). Dinner options were many and varied - Marchand's does the farm-to-fork concept, and they change their menu regularly, perhaps once every four to six weeks. Both of our dinners were creative, delicious, and completely satisfying. We finished with freshly baked pie and coffee. And we left happy! Great place, highly recommended..."

  • "We received excellent, very attentive service. The food was prepared just right. I had a tenderloin which was tender and tasty. My wife had the scallops which were also prepared to perfection."

  • "The restaurant was very cold, but when I brought this to our hostess' attention she remarked that she would check the thermostat and adjust it accordingly. Within a few minutes the temp had risen a couple of degrees to a comfortable level. Second disapointment: we chose Marchand's because of the "3 for $32" promotion that was on the restaurant's website. When I asked the server about it we were told that staff was told that morning that the promotion ended that day and that the a la carte menu would be used instead. My opinion - they should have honored the deal anyway sinc eit was a last minute change. When we received our check, the brunch mimosa was priced at $9 on the bill when the menu clearly stated $7. Food was good but unremarkable."

  • "My wife and I dined there on our 41st wedding anniversary. My wife found the steak she ordered tough and over- cooked. The restaurant quickly substituted another dish that was perfect. They handled it like pros."

  • "Food was delicious, properly portioned and tasty like a treat. Example was PBJ appetizer which was finely presented. Service was very suitable both for business and for private personal dining."

  • "At Marchands you are served brunch, not expected to serve yourself at a food line. Stay as long as you like too"

  • "we were hoping to enjoy a great meal in a fairly quiet space. the restaurant is in beautiful surroundings, in a large elegant space. it has an oval bar in the middle of the room and FOUR enormous TV screens in the middle of the bar showing a hockey game! The restaurant had been advertised as refined dining in an elegant setting, and we dined in a sports bar! There was live music, which was as little louder than you'd like in a restaurant. The meal was excellent, served in a very noisy, distracting environment. this is not the place to go for an intimate dining experience. we were sadly disappointed"

  • "Marchand's was recommended to me to visit while I was in town for the day by a manager of an Orlando restaurant that I frequent. She made me a reservation and requested a table with a view. Boy did Marchand's deliver! I was thuroughly impressed with the service, food, and ambience. I will most certainly be returning."

  • "We enjoyed a fine meal, excellent service, nice wine list, and had a splendid conversation in a wonderful ambiance. Just first class at every turn, from coming in, to being seated nicely, to the helpful waiter, and then, the delightful meal and dessert. I had the sugar cured ham shank which was just wonderful, and my wife the tenderloin, which, too, was perfect. The veggies were unusually well done, and the service splendid. A very nice meal."

  • "As locals we always try to support the businesses in the Community, and appreciate the effort that has been made to bring the Vinoy back to it's former glory. However to be a quality hotel, there needs to be a quality restaurant. The food was not terrible, but in most cases pre cooked and reheated, except the desert which was frozen like a rock, the atmosphere for a 'fine dining' restaurant was annoying between the noisy crowds at the bar and the music. The meal's value was $50.00 , but the price was $90.00 per head, which was the only menu we were offered. In summary for a total bill of $260.00 ...the next evening at Bonefish was much better. I suggest creating a true first class restaurant, or just serve Hamburgers, and Sandwiches."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch and had a delightful experience! Live music, friendly attentive service, and wonderful food in a beautiful setting--what else can I say? The chief and kitchen staff have to get the lion's share of the praise for the great experience. The food here is beyond anything that we've had in the Tampa Bay Area except for a few of the steak restaurants. Yes, we've been to the James Beard awarded restaurant, etc. and found them all lacking and questioned the reviewer's tastebuds. But here at Marchands, you will not find anything missing. Check out the online menus, and then go see for yourself; you will not be disappointed."

  • "The "1925" menu at this historic hotel in St. Petersburg FL, makes dining in this venue very affordable. Food, service and ambience are all top notch. Go for the total experience."

  • "Comfortable, quiet with a large table for 6. Breakfast was outstanding. The service was right on (not too bothersome, but not slow-perfect) Kid friendly! Very nice ambience-upscale, but not over the top. Classy all the way around."

  • "Good Location, nice view but needs improvement. Salad is overpriced and average in taste, nothing special. The Grouper was fantastic!! The Steak however was overcooked, ordered medium but received well done (did not wand to wait another 45min for another one). Taste-wise was very good, just over cooked. Presentation was excellent, however the service was poor. Very long wait for the waitress made this expedience boring to say the least. Interior is also on the average side as there is nothing special. You would expect something more from a restaurant that charges an average of $120.00 for a dinner for two without wine. Wine list is better, choices are excellent."

  • "The service, ambience & food were all very good. One of us mentioned the "creations" were quite esoteric and wondered if the plates were a little too "precious". Hence the small # of diners in the room. I would definitely recommend it for a quiet romantic dinner or gathering of 4-6."

  • "Recent visit to Vinoy confirmed the majority of online reviews. It is in decline and that is sad. The restaurant used to have white tablecloths, clean napkins, proper silverware. All of it is gone, along with quality food and outstanding service. During my last visit, everything was mediocre to say the least. The waiter tried his best but there is only so much he could do. At the end of our lunch (time was 2:30), other waiters started vacuuming nearby which certainly does not add to the ambience. We were celebrating my mother's birthday and came away very disappointed. Sad. It was once such a special place."

  • "Visiting friends in St Petersburg, they recommended Marchand in the Hotel Vinoy. It was a charming location, rich in local history, great service, comfortable, elegant dining, and wonderful food. I had the grouper, which was prepared just right. My wife has the chicken breastfeeding, again prepared well, though possibly a bit too much hassle butter sauce. We had the Key Lime pie for dessert which was a great finish to a wonderful meal."

  • "Marchand's does everything well. Food and service were great If anything, the portions were too large. The extensive wine list had many outstanding choices at very reasonable prices. The bar scene can get a bit too vibrant if the hotel is hosting a large conference, but the room is big enough to allow them to seat diners away from most of the noise."

  • "We have dined at Marchand's many times, but results vary widely. We've had delicious meals with terrible service and so-so meals with great service. We had almost non-existent service during our most recent $250 meal. We waited for wine for 30 minutes, but our food courses were served like an assembly line by servers who were unable to even fill a water glass. We just couldn't get our waiter's attention or anyone else's throughout the meal. After waiting another 30 minutes for our check, my husband finally got up from the table and went to find him. With service this bad, the food almost doesn't matter. At a minimum, a mgr should paying attention to customers & waiters should be taught to at least look at their tables once in a while."

  • "The food was wonderfully delicious. I thought it took a while to come out, but when I looked around the restaurant there were several large parties. The restaurant was clean, quiet, beautifully decorated with awesome views of the marina. I would definitely recommend and return...thanks for a wonderful experience"

  • "Marchands serves high quality food in a beautiful atmosphere with an amazingly good wine list. This is the second year we have had Christmas lunch at Marchands and on both occasions the menu was exceptionally good. For us both we had Scallops for our main course and they were cooked to perfection. The Fruit cake with Mascapone was exceptional and as good as my Mum used to make. A great venue for a dpecial Christmas lunch in beautiful St Pete."

  • "Christmas night. Asked 3 times to turn off air conditioning. It was so cold we went from drinking wine to tea and coffee. It took over 2 hours to get complete order. Food was good but a bad experience for our party. Very disappointed"

  • "Offered cushions so our dining chairs would elevate us to a level where the table wasn't just below our chins. We didn't want cushions, we wanted decent, comfortable chairs. Told host who argued (!) that he couldn't move us because the other tables (2/3 empty) were reserved for guests of the hotel. He did move us, and seated us by the waitstaff station. Our server was fabulous, and she was very helpful in guiding us through a multi-course Christmas Day dinner menu. We found the food to actually be quite tasty (in spite of a lot of unappealing names for the items). Overall we feel the hotel's dining chairs could stand a little new upholstery and a lot less air conditioning on cooler days, and the host(s) need to stop being snobby."

  • "For such an elegant hotel, the restaurant does not match. The appetizer was scallops with mac and cheese. Unfortunately the mac and cheese was not properly heated and was luke warm. Scallops were tasty but a tiny portion. The main course was grouper. Mine was slightly overcooked and the other was perfect. The fish was served on rice in coconut milk. Very tasty but mine was a bit dry on the outside edges. Service was extremely friendly and professional. Not a bad meal but it just does not impress. Somehow I expect more without the rough edges."

  • "Always good for a special occasion, the Chefs blended traditional Thanksgiving fare with a delightful variation on the menu. A bit pricey but the price fixe menu was worth it. Dining room needs drapes or something to baffle the sound as it can get quite noisy."

  • "Was disappointed when upon arrival I realized their online menu was not actually the menu on offer. Marchand's changes their menu once a month, so no reason why they can't update their menu online monthly. Fairly easy process! I had Cornish Game Hen -came with a cornbread stuffing, sadly was one of the dishes on their menu that did not come with any vegetables?! Had to order a side of excellent roast vegetables, but why would some dishes come with vegetables and others not?? The bread they provide with dinner is outstanding - an olive bread and an asiago cheese bread. Both ultra-fresh and of high quality. Service, dining room decor & atmosphere were outstanding. Huge high-ceiling dining room with a classic roman feel and decor."
