The people are nice, the food is spectacular, the dining room is nicely updated, and the Short North area is so quaint. We arrived slightly a few minutes before they opened and went next door to the pet store. Lovely! Marcellas opened promptly at 4:00 and the dining area quickly started to fill up. It was evident that it's a popular neighborhood place to go. Wait staff is friendly and professional.You won't be sorry if you make Marcellas part of your visit to the Columbus area. We usually look for a good pasta place w/ a nice wine list. Marcella's hit it out of the park. The appetizers were excellent and the service was exceptional. Meal portions were generous, the selection was diverse and the food was flavorful. The noise level was a little higher than we'd like but we were able to converse without too much yelling. The only real complaint to speak of is the amount of space afforded to us at the bar and at our table. Things seemed a little crowded as we found ourselves bumping into more people than we'd like. We were seated right away; quick service. Good pasta -- I had the spicy arabiata, and they added spinach -- hit the spot. My daughter had plain penne, and it came w/a side of fruit ( nice touch ! ) a bit too buttery but fit our needs.
Valet parking was easy and allowed us to keep our car parked for the concert, which was a short walk to Nationwide Arena. The server was knowledgeable of the food and drinks, and very friendly. I had the Margherita pizza and my husband ordered the Chicken Marsala along with the Mozzarella Risotto appetizer. The pizza was great and very fresh tasting with the fresh mozzarella along with the tomotoes and basil. His was a more hearty meal that was accompanied with mashed potatoes. Even though we were a few minutes late for our reservations, we didn't have to wait long once we arrived and that was appreciated. This spot always has a very busy, energetic vibe that I love. We mentioned we were running late to our server up front and she asked us what time we needed to be out of there. We told her and she was WONDERFUL. She timed everything perfectly so we didn't feel rushed and had our check to us with 2 minutes to spare!
I highly recommend the sangria (get the liter carafe, it's worth it) - LOTS of fresh black berries in the bottom of the carafe! And no matter what you do, treat yourself to the meatball!!
