Special Night at Marc ForgioneWe had special treatment from Chef Forgione himself on a recent visit to NYC. The food was exceptionally tasty, the wait staff knowledgeable yet friendly and congenial, and each dish was prepared with the exacting detail one expects of an Iron Chef. Our service exceeded our expectations that were high from the start.
Marc Forgione is tops on my list of events the next time we're in the city.

We showed up a little before five (our reservation was for 530) to a street that was closed off due to President Obama having a fund raiser across the street. The manager let us in and allowed us to have a couple drinks at the bar while we waited for dinner even though they weren't open yet. I can say that we had a wonderful dinner and the staff took very good care of us.

The menu changes occasionally, but you will never be disappointed with the flavors, portions, or combinations of ingredients. The service is terrific and the restaurant's casual and stylish atmosphere makes you want to stay as long as you can. My husband and I like to order our own starters, share one as a 2nd course, and then have the mains. I am from San Francisco but travel to NY frequently. This was my first visit to Marc's restaurant (I tried to go last year but the restaurant was booked for a private party on the only free night that I had). I am a casual foodie...meaning I really enjoy scoping out new places and indulging in various menus, but I do not enjoy dishes that are too over the top and fancy. I decided on the tasting menu (foie gras, lobster, lamb, etc) and it was one of my top 10 meals of all time. The food, service and attention to detail is exquisite and Marc came by our table a few times to check up on us! My husband made reservations for our Anniversary on April 20th, let me start by saying that my experience was phenomenon! Starting from the hostesss to the manager they were great! They sat us by a romantic corner which was ready with a letter from Iron Chef Marc Forgione congratulating us on our Anniversary, then our awesome waiter Jason set us up with two glasses of the bubbly (tasty) as he told us about the menu....now we choose the tasting menu OH MAMMA MIA did he steer us right!! from the Frios Gras to the Lamb I wouldn't be able to choose which one tasted better then the next....the Chili Lobster with Texas toast was to DIE FOR!!!!...the Banana Jameson was so deliciousssss! as was the Strawberry sorbet, etc..Again this4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBest anniversary dinner EVERMy husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and everything was amazing. I made a reservation here with the sole purpose of having the Thursday special: the crispy pig's face. It was the most fantastic dish we've ever had. The octopus appetizer was delicious, and the massive ribeye special was spectacular. My husband and I tried 4 different cocktails and they were all perfect. There's no way to find fault with this place. Even our waiter, Jason, was very knowledgeable and attentive and funny. We have to come back to try everything else on the menu. My wife and I were in NYC for my birthday and booked reservations ahead of time. Big fans of the cooking networks so quite familiar with Chef Forgione and his skills, so we were quite excited. The decor and setup was extremely inviting and relaxed. The service was spectacular. We asked our server for a lot of feedback on the dishes and he was completely honest with us in every aspect. Food was AWESOME to the point where my eyes rolled back in my head several times. Dessert was spectactular (Tiramisu rocks). To top is all off, Chef Forgione invited us to the kitchen to greet and chat for a bit. And basically too bad because no tables were available and come back on 3/31. We explained that this was a birthday celebration so waiting a week puts a damper on the celebration. From the very friendly girls at the door to our server Jason, they make it a great experience. For starters I got the Kampachi and my gf had the Chili Lobster ( one of us always gets this it is that good). The Kampachi was awesome. My gf went with her favorite in the Halibut for her main course and I went with the duck breast. Both were were great. Jason our server was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. The best dinner I've ever had was when I dined at Marc Forgione last year. The biggest problem I had was there was too much bread too early. The Foie Gras was of course served with bread and the lobster was served with Texas toast. By the time I finished the lobster I was full and I had four dishes to go in the tasting menu. The the Amuse-Bouche was especially memorable as Marc himself served and described it for me. How awesome ! The Thai clili lobster was the single best dish of my life. Started with a glass of champagne--they bring the open bottle to the table and pour a full glass in front of you. Wife started with the Lobster Toast [which she says is the best thing she ate all year] while I had their pork twist on Vitello Tonnato. The waiter absolutely guided me to one of the best entrees I had all year--the Halibut. Simply out of this world delicious! Then for dessert, I had the cheese plate along with a glass of port, again poured tableside.
The only slight quibble I would note is that our appetizers arrived before our ordered-at-the-same-time bottle of Gavi. And when it arrived, it wasn't appropriately chilled: a shame since it paired so well w/my wife's app12/28/2012 12:00:00 AMGreat mealDinner at Forgione was exceptional. We dined on a Monday evening and the restaurant was busy but not packed. We ordered BBQ oysters and octopus appetizers. The oysters were just OK but the octopus was exceptionally good. Entrees were filet mignon and venison - both were excellent. Desert was strawberries and tatoos (they will have to explain this to you...also excellent. Overall one of the best meals my wife and I have had in quite some time.
Forgot to mention - Marc Forgione was working in the kitchen and came out into the dining room several times greeting diners and generally working the room. This added a very nice touch to the experience.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
