A word from Mappamondo
Mappamondo returns after 11 years to the original location in the heart of the West Village with its authentic Italian cuisine of a classic Italian trattoria with an extraordinarily warm and cozy atmosphere, where you can sample the best simple, fresh, and delicious homemade food that Italy has to offer at reasonable prices.
The service is warm and friendly and the wine list has the same quality and value as the food.
Mappamondo means "Globe" in Italian, so the walls are covered with a large fresco vintage map, a collection of vintage globes, and an array of world themed items from teapots to cookie jars and bookends to globe candles.
Mappamondo serves lunch and dinner 7 days a week from 12pm to 12am and brunch Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. Delivery and Take Out is also available.

This is a solid little restaurant. It's a great little neighborhood place to have in your pocket when the need arises. The food is good, not great. The waitstaff was friendly, but not overly so. And the space is cozy. Have been here a couple of times over the years and have never really had a bad experience.

THE SERVICE AT THE RESTAURANT IS BEYOND TERRIBLE. The waitress is very rude, standoffish, and unwelcoming. The owner greeted every table in the restaurant except ours. He literally avoided my party and acknowledged everyone but us. The bar is laughable. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

We have eaten here a few times prior & really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as food was always delicious. As this was a special meal , we were disappointed this time. This time it was different. We arrived at the beginning of the dinner time and I would not suggest to do that. The specials were not ready, the lights were full on (no atmosphere), the music was not appropriate for the restaurant. In addition, the waitress was very rushed as she was trying to set up the entire restaurant. She was also rushed with us throughout our stay We were quite disappointed this visit. I

Started out okay. cute place friendly staff. But it is really small and you literally sit right on top of the tables around you. They had a large party of 10 that when they came the noise level was uncomfortable. The food was over cooked - I had the special chicken marsala and my wife had the black and white shimp pasta dish - 5 medium shrimp - was pretty skimpy. Wine was ok - a barolo for $40 should have been a warning. It just didn't have the big Barolo flavors I am used to. I only went because we got a reservation. If I thought I could walk in some place on a Saturday night I would have taken my chances elsewhere.

Came here for a bachlorette dinner because it is a BYOB restaurant and we wanted to keep the cost down. They have a $20.00 corkage fee on a regular bottle of wine and $30.00 for the larger bottles. They also have a bar and wine list. Despite that ridiculous charge, the food was great, the service was spot on and we have a great time! I would definitely go back.

We were hoping to find a new casual neighborhood gem in Mappamondo, but unfortunately the stretched too thin hostess/waitress/sole employee working the floor was too busy covering the 5 occupied tables in an awkwardly quiet restaurant, we just couldn't find much to like about the place. The mappamondo salad was fresh but lacked salt any any flavor other than acid in the dressing, and the spaghetti with seafood in a tomato sauce was cooked well but tasted of basic canned tomatoes and clam broth. Prices were reasonable, but not for a meal I could cook at home and enjoy better atmosphere and the same lackluster wine.

Service is slow but server (yes 1) was really nice. Will go back but only if not in a hurry. It was perfect and slow for the group I went with. We chilled over appetizers while waiting for dinner.

Went to this little restaurant in the West Village since it had many gluten free options. We were greeted cooly upon entering and the service didn't get better from there. Food was good, but given all of the other choices in the city, would not return because of the service.

We had to wait 45 min after our reservation time to be seated. I then ordered a salad as my entree, and they brought it out as a salad. So I just sat there with my salad till everyone else got their food. Based on the service, I'm not totally sold on going there again. They did have a bunch of Gluten Free pastas available, but I didn't try any.

The restaurant was not ready for us when we arrived. We have just moved to the street next door and I was with my family, and a confirmed 8:30pm booking. The restaurant 1st said "we don't have it", and then a couple of mins later "we are not ready". I suggested (rather than waiting in the cold) that we return in 10/15 mins, we did in 20 mins later and we still had to wait for over 20 mins. Apart from "we're sorry the other guests won't leave" the restaurant did little to accommodate our almost 60 min wait. Very disappointing.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

The food was fantastic. But open table was wrong about not having a corkage fee. They charged $20 per bottle of wine and only allowed one bottle per 2 diners. If your wine cost more than $10 bucks its just not worth it. They have $30 wines on the menu! The corkage fee was horrible but again the food was awesome, the place is tiny and cute, and the service was okay - not bad but not great!

I wanted to rate this higher since I have enjoyed eating at Mappamondo VERY much in the past, but this evening ended up being a bit disappointing. Apparently only one person in the entire resto manages the OpenTable reservations, so when I made a same-day reservation and showed up at 8:00 on New Year's Eve, was dismayed to find out that there was no room due to a large party that had been booked. My husband and I ended up having to spend our festive dinner eating at the very tiny bar (we knew if we left and tried to find an alternative at 8:00 on NYE, we'd end up walking around in the cold, only to eat cereal at home). The food IS good, especially the mushroom tagliatelle, and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood.

We had to wait a half hour past our reservation to be seated. While we waited at the bar, it took took bartender 20 minutes to take our drink orders/make them. You'd think it'd be a no brainer to prioritize the patrons whose table wasn't ready. Looking back on it, I really should have been a squeakier wheel on this--just a nonsensical approach. And then for the first half hour at our table, we didn't even get bread. FINALLY, after calling the waiter over and asking for bread and a chance to order appetizers, the wait staff realized they had been neglecting us and was much more responsive from there on out. Very good food, very good ambiance. But it was a trying first hour. I'm not dying to head back.
