Diner Reviews
  • "We love the Maplewood. We go enough that the staff recognizes us and is very friendly to our daughters. We went to celebrate our daughters communion with grandparents and it was very nice."

  • "This is a love;y little spot, with an excellent (and creative) menu and friendly, welcoming service. The food is outstanding -- from the Poppers (small plate) to the sandwiches and salads -- and beautifully prepared, seasoned, and served. It's always a pleasure to dine here. I wish there were more places like this, comprising such an unprepossessing but consistently pleasurable experience."

  • "This was a nice find as far as the food goes. We were there for two hours and saw our waiter 4 times during the course of the evening."

  • "Surprised to find a strip mall restaurant with such excellent food, ambience, and the service was outstanding."

  • "I saw this restaurant advertised somewhere - I don't recall where exactly. Its stuck in a strip mall next to a liquor store so I probably wouldn't have tried it if I'd just spotted it on the street. That would have been a mistake. Food was superb, service was excellent, live music was decent. Highly recommended."

  • "We started with the calamari which was tender and had a terrific sauce. We asked for more bread to finish the sauce. We stuck with the main menu for our main course of flat iron steak and scallops. Both meals were excellently prepared and accompanied by very tasty sides. The pinot noire turned out to be an excellent pairing with our beef and seafood choices. The servings were so plentiful that we had to forgo desert. To cap off the meal, our server was absolutely delightful with a great sense of humor and very attentive despite the Friday evening crowd. In all, a great way to celebrate the end of the week."

  • "You have limited time for a dinner out on a Saturday night. In the Northern Virginia area, there are restaurants which seem to be doing well and have a "good" reputation - however you would never choose it if you had a decent alternative. Avoid this place. There is no reason why anyone should sit in a weak banjo chair in a noisy strip mall store front restaurant to then dine on food that is way over-priced vs value. It just is not worth it."

  • "My husband and I have been wanting to go to the Maplewood Grill since we moved back to the area. We took a friend who was in town and we tried a variety of items between the three of us. Everything was delicious. We decided to treat ourselves a few weeks later for a nice dinner, and we chose to go back to try some more items. The waiters we had were great, since I am 9 months pregnant, I have to be careful of what I eat and the portion size of fish, he was very patient with me when I was making my decision. Again the food was great! Highly recommend for all occasions"

  • "Let me give the biggest kudos right at the beginning: my dining companion is using a walker and having significant mobility issues. The staff at the restaurant were very patient and solicitious with him and helpful to me. This night I chose the special cod (St. Patrick's Day, you know) and my companion, the special with corn beef and cabbage. My cod was tender and delicious. He said his corn beef was tough and he left quite a bit of it. The bread basket comes with two thin slices of a delicious dark home-made bread and many additional slices of stale white french loaf; not good. The desserts we had, bread pudding and carrot cake, were sinfully delicious. I hope the next time I go, the grill will be fully up to its prior standard."

  • "This restaurant is exceptional. The crab/shrimp poppers are amazing! My husband and I went there on a Sunday night for the first time for dinner and enjoyed it so much we returned the next day with our daughter and son-in-law. They also thought it was great. They had a 2 month old baby with them who started to cry and the servers were so helpful and understanding. I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago for the first time with several friends and, again, the food was great. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner."

  • "Wanted to try a neighborhood place near a friend's house. Wasn't expecting high quality, but this didn't even reach decent. It was really not good. Servers tried hard, and were very nice. Food was mediocre at best. Bummer."

  • "From the moment I waked in, I knew I chose the right place for my date. The food was good, I hade the surf and turf pasta, my date enjoined the fried chicken salad. The service was on point and my drink never went empty. I'd defiantly return."

  • "Ordered a steak medium well because last time we dined here the steak was brought out very undercooked and they took it back and cooked it more. I like a steak cooked medium. This time they brought out a steak that was blood rare and cold in the middle - definitely not medium well as I had ordered. I complained stridently since the same thing happened on my previous visit and they gave me a gift certificate for the price of the steak which I can use next time. This is a nice place with a nice menu, but the kitchen staff seems to have a hard time with meat temperature and cooking steaks. We will continue to visit but I will never order a steak there again. My wife's crab cakes were great, beer selection is outstanding. Service was good."

  • "We went there for Sunday Brunch with friends and had a wonderful time. The four of us each had a different Brunch Special. From the lobster omelet, tenderloin omelet, oyster salad, to the chicken and waffle for our main courses. We saved room and split the white chocolate bread pudding and lemon chess pie. All were excellently prepared and served with style. We will definitely be repeat customers!!"

  • "Pretty good Valentine's day fixed menu. Avoid the lobster mashed potatoes. They're not nearly as good as they sound."

  • "The restaurant is in a strip mall. It was empty for Subday brunch- and yet our server was a bit cocky, and a lot unavailable. The food was ok- not great. We won't be back."

  • "We met an old friend here - she recommended Maplewood as she lives nearby. She was right - the food was delicious and the ambience very nice - a piano player in the bar area added such a nice touch. Not noisy like so many restaurants. A wide choice of foods for dinner. We will definitely return."

  • "If you like comfort food that is served beautifully and made to order, you must have the tomato soup at Maplewood Grill. It was beyond delicious! The goat cheese salad-superb. Service starting with the person who greeted us at the door, to our waitress, to the friendly goodbye upon our departure, was inviting and pleasant. We will return for both the food and an opportunity to hear the phenomenal voice of the gent who sings on Tuesday nights (Louis). Thanks for a great dining experience. LovLo"

  • "Food is very good. However, the noise level can be high. If you come with 2 or 4 other people then the noise level may be acceptable. However, if you are looking for a nice, quet dinner with another person, you may find it too noisy."

  • "This was a great experience. Our birthday tradition is the celebrant picks folks we don't get to see enough and we treat them to a dinner. This was delicious food, tremendous service and a 'just right' atmosphere. Not too casual, not to fancy. And a great value for the price point. Our server seemingly effortlessly found that perfect seam of friendly and attentive without being imposing. She was there when we needed her but didn't intrude on our conversations. I am sure she was monitoring us more than we were aware. We had a mix of palates, and the menu made everybody happy. Beer choices, appetizers, sandwiches, specials ... we tried it all. We will definitely be back."

  • "This was our first time at Maplewood Grill and we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. This is a definite neighborhood gem. There is a nice variety on the menu from normal bar and American food to excellent fish, seafood and steaks. We both ate fish and truly enjoyed it. A very nice selection of beers too. This is absolutely a place to check out for a casual meal in Vienna."

  • "Poor service is not the norm at Maplewood. Seems this person needs more training. Otherwise it was a good evening with terrific food."

  • "but as soon as we were seated the waitress told us the kitchen was backed up and she would have to come back later for our drink order. Yes, drink order. Eventually we got an excellent meal and would go back but the first moments did not set a good tone for enjoying our meal."

  • "One of our group is vegan and the chef was able to accommodate this person's dietary request when requested prior to our visit. The food was wonderful and the Make-your-own Bloody Mary Bar for brunch is great. The staff is very attentive and understands customer needs."

  • "An unassuming place, tucked away in a shopping center off of Maple Ave in Vienna. We've been there twice now and have been surprised at the quality and creativity of the food. A little hard to decide what to order! Regarding service, they seem well-staffed and everyone is attentive. Looking forward to returning."

  • "We took a couple from out of town and so enjoyed the food. We had scallops, Steak, Burger and a special. Beers on tap were perfect. Price tage was in line and just a great great time. We will be back"

  • "Lucky to get New Years reservations for two at the last minute, the Maplewood Grill greatly exceeded our expectatations. The fixed price menu was well balanced, with seafood, meat, and vegetarian options readily available. The lobster chowder and diver scallops on cauliflower rissotto were outstanding! At one point I stopped eating , simply because I didn't want the meal to end. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We both had a wonderful time, and will be back during the new year. Highly Recommended."

  • "My boyfriend and I had heard some good reviews on this place from some friends so when we saw that they had a three course dinner for new year's eve, we decided to check it out. The mexican lobster chowda and smoked salmon appetizer was really good - just light enough to get our palates going. I had ordered the 5 spice duck breast and my boyfriend ordered the fish trio. I thought my dish was good but the spinach had a little too much garlic for my liking and my boyfriend didn't really care for one of the fish, said it had no flavor to it really. Despite some minor issues, the dinner was an overall success. Plus you can't beat sparklers on the dessert either!"

  • "We were a party of four and everyone was satisfied with all three courses of the special holiday dinner menu. The fish trio, seared scallops and beer medallions were all rated very good at our table. We had the mushroom ravioli and mexican lobster soup, both of which were also very good. Everyone liked the dessert specials also. Our waiter was friendly and efficient!"

  • "Found in the corner of a shopping mall, this restaurant is easy to miss. The food on a busy Saturday night was well prepared and fresh. The food is not necessarily inventive, but delivers on its descriptions."

  • "Everything was perfect. We had a cozy private table. The wait staff did a fine job of serving us. There is someone to greet us upon our arrival. I appreciate their coat check service. I enjoyed the entertainment who was a musician who plays guitar and/or piano while singing holiday music; the volume is at the right level so it doesn't interfere with the table conversation. The salmon entree and lobster roll was delicious. We enjoyed our coffee and pre dinner cocktails. Thank You!"

  • "Based on researching on OpenTable and looking at the on-line menu, I chose Maplewood Grill for a special thank you dinner for some close family members we were visiting for Christmas. Unfortunately the food was a HUGE disappointment, especially at the prices charged. The flavor combinations were poor matches and a lot of the food had little to no seasoning. Several of us had various seafood dishes at the server's suggestion; each of commented that it tasted frozen, bland and had a poor texture. The salads were literally not as good as those at Panera (which at ~$10 a piece, they should be better). Overall, I was very disappointed in the lack of quality and value. Will not return."

  • "We wanted somewhere different for Christmas Eve and had never been to Maplewood, not realizing it is in the old LaCanard space. The food was outstanding, and my picky husband was overwhelmed at the quality and size of his Chateaubriand, as well as the taste of my scallops. My daughter even tried, and liked, our escargot! Highly recommend for any occasion, and can't wait to go back!"
