Maplewood GrillIt's American menu is veryIt's American menu is very good but I would not recommend European dishes. The 3 items we ordered - escargot needed more herbs, french onion soup -okay, and outside batter/coating on Weiner Schnitzel was on the greasy side6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost 5-starMy husband and I dined here on a Sunday evening. There was no need to make a reservation, as many tables were available. it was a quiet night, no pianist. I ordered a seared scallop entree with a bacon/corn/potato/? hash that was delicious -- very tender scallops. My husband ordered a trio appetizer that he said was quite good. We shared a carrot cake/pecan ice cream dessert, and this is where I dropped the fifth star from my review. Sometimes this restaurant doesn't know where to stop. Expecting cake and ice cream, the plate also included sliced strawberries drizzled with sauce AND a (vanilla?) sauce over the cake AND a dollop of whipped cream. Sometimes less is more!!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMmurpheeAs usual, our meal was outstanding! The fried oysters, however, were over breaded and over cooked. Would not order them again. Our entrees were delicious! Service was friendly and efficient.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMVery inventive menu done wellWe were looking for a restaurant near enough to Wolf Trap, and decided to give the Maplewood Grill a try.
The Avocado Soup with Shrimp, the Thai Shrimp Salad with Peanuts and Noodles, the chopped salad, the lamb lollipops, and the Smoked Salmon Quesadilla with a basil sauce were all terrific.
Set in the corner of a strip center, was very un-imposing, but the service was very attentive, and the options inventive, and they pulled it off with aplomb.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe lobster roll was veryThe lobster roll was very good, also the slaw. Fried oyster appetizer = above average. I liked the variety of beers on tap, had the sampler. Would go back for the lobster roll.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner was greatwe had a great dinner, nice service and a comfortable table.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is 'our place' when inThis is 'our place' when in the area. My wife and I came for Mother's Day (actually, the Saturday night before) and were, once again, very surprised at the quality of the food and service. Its location in a strip mall with and Elevation Burger and a grocery store isn't walker-friendly, and parking can be somewhat squished, but once inside the creators of this establishment clearly understand the difference between a 'restaurant' and a 'dining experience' - falling heavily on the experience side. Great wines from Spain to Australia. A specials menu that is truly special - i.e. off the bone lamb shanks with local baby carrots, native mango-guava mousse cake with one of the best espressos on the continent (and I am picky!), overall an A+.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery goodthe food and service was great. I wish they had a little less seafood mixed in with the delicious items, as I do not eat seafood, but the portions and food was super. love the piano bar. not sure this is for a 'younger' crowd but its fun and relaxing.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!At the last minute, we needed a special place for 5 for lunch--we got closed out of a few notable spots, and Maplewood Grill had a spot for us! The service was very attentive without being TOO much and the restaurant was very nice and comfortable for a larger group while maintaining a cosy feel. It had a nice bar area but since it was lunch, it was not busy. The food was really good...I had the crab and corn soup and a Goat Cheese salad. both really good. The group was very happy and we stayed for 3 hours!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch or happy hourGreat lunch or happy hour spot.
