Ma'ono Fried Chicken & WhiskyFried chicken is good butFried chicken is good but not great. I think I prefer a slightly greasier fried chicken though. It's a bit under seasoned as well.
Kalbi ribs were amazing as was the corn on the cob and pop corn icecream.
Many items on the menu make we want to come back but I wouldn't get the chicken again.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing birthday meal!I brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday - the chicken was incredible. We're still chowing on leftovers. Also. Sweet rolls with pan drippings - unbelievable. I'm pretty sure I could just eat that for the rest of my life and be happy. And the popcorn ice cream was such a treat too. Great service, nice spot, and terrific, fast food. Thanks for such a fun experience - we'll be back!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant brunchThe best thing about ordering way too much brunch (we started w/ Apple Malasadas and Manapua) was that I had enough to take home for later. The French Toast with chicken nuggets and sausage gravy is out of this world. It may be my new "chicken and waffles," and their sausage gravy is hands down the best I've had in Seattle. Bottomless mimosas! Watch out!
Nice service and great interior. Love the open kitchen and extensive bar.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOnoExcellent food but biased because I like Hawaiian. Our party enjoyed the fried chicken. I especially liked the poke and the greens. A little too much rice on the misubi though I loved the spam. Good for groups because of the family style dining.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGet your fried chicken on! Yum!!!!This is such an amazing treat right here in West Seattle. The fried chicken is the star, but the menu is chocked full of other supporting choices. Try the short ribs, edamame, and fried rice... you will go home satisfied, with a nice 'to go' box for tomorrow.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEaten here four times; thisEaten here four times; this last time was best service!! last tomes service was just ok! The chicken is a must try, but the trout is to always go back for. Would recommend all the little plates. Go as a group and try everything that sounds good.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time, probably not the last. The fried chicken was good. Not the best, but still good.
However, the whole trout was fantastic! With garlic, cilantro, and basil, it had a delicious lighter flavor that was a nice combination to the heavier flavors of the chicken.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMbest chicken in Seattle!I know good chicken and have struggled to find good fried chicken in Seattle. I have made due with Ezells and Popeyes which are both fine for fast food but if you want to sit down at a restaurant they aren't the best options. This place knows what they are doing. The chicken is seasoned well and is fresh and flavorful. It makes a great leftover heated or cold! I took my parents recently and my Mom cooks a fantastic fried chicken and she loved it so thats is saying alot.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GoodBrought some friends from out of town in for brunch. service staff was very flexible with our reservation and the food was fantastic.
The hamburger in the Loco Moco was really, really bland but everything else in the dish was tasty.
Gravy with the French toast was incredible.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous chicken! The whiskey chicken was outstanding! We even tried the spam/sushi appetizer and found it to be quite good. Our meal was great along with the service. Very enjoyable and we would definitely come back again.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food & serviceLoved the food and service, not so keen on the space itself. I was sitting in a booth facing the windows and, because of the glare, could not see the couple sitting across the table... same problem existed with previous restaurant.
We are pescatarians, and hope that the menu will continue to offer a variety of options for the not-meat eaters. We were very impressed with our servers' friendliness and professionalism.
As for Opentable, the website was not functioning properly which made it difficult to secure our desired reservation time. The restaurant staff did everything possible to make it work. Cheers to them.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMONO!Food was excellent with a little creative twist. Service was attentive and environment made for easy conversation.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary dateWe chose this restaurant for our anniversary outing as we did the year prior. The server was so kind and surprised with two glasses of champagne in celebration of our special day. That was lovely! The food never disappoints. It is difficult to narrow down what we will order because the menu/food is outstanding. Wonderful cocktails! Great atmosphere & terrific service. We will keep coming back without a doubt!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Perfect BirthdayAs soon as I dined there the first time a few months ago, I knew that Ma'ono would be the place that I would celebrate my 50th birthday with a group of my closest, dearest friends. The warm service, amazing food and family style-chicken and rice made it a really lovely, memorable night. No one else in the party had been to Ma'ono before -- they left having fallen in love with the chicken, the kim chee and the chili edamame. Thank you for making this occasion so special for me.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Brunch to end a weekend outMa'Ono was the perfect ending for a busy weekend out and about, with the bottomless Mimosa it provided a gentle ending to the weekend after some fun. The food was both delicious and filling and I would strongly recommmend saving some room for dessert! Great mix of options from either more breakfast or lunch focused dishes as well as some nice combinations.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and great serviceWe've been here twice and have had excellent service, good drink menu and really good food. A couple downsides include too-dim lighting and chicken shortages. If you have fried chicken in the title of your restaurant you shouldn't have to specially reserve a chicken.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentFirst visit since the change from Spring Hill, and a great first impression. Fried chicken lived up to its reputation: done just so with excellent seasoning. Sides of asparagus and poke were superb. Our server was attentive, friendly, and paced our meal nicely.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat chicken! We got the fried chicken and it was terrific! I also really liked the steamed pork buns!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFine Dining or Fried ChickenThis place is a lot of fun. If there are those of you who are wondering how good fried chicken could possibly be, you might not be alone. The chicken is definitely very good, but some people might argue that Ezell's is better -- I think it's hard for me to bite into fried chicken and think "Well, this is definitely worth $40". The sides are definitely great though. We had the steamed pork buns and they were amazing.
The service was not all that impressive. Our waitress seemed distracted, impersonable, and rushed. The place was very busy, but a good waitress could have weathered that better and helped make our experience much more pleasant.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne to go back toEasily made reservation on line. At first the menu selection did not appeal to me ,but as soon as I saw the meals being served around me I wanted everything. We had the short ribs for appetizers and they were excellent. Their house wines were very good.
One of us had the Fried chicken and the other had the steak. Lots of food, Great flavors and had to take home left overs. A friend told me about this place and had advised me to try the fried chicken. Glad we went. We thought of a lot of friend and family who would enjoy this place and will tell them all.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a few problems someWe had a few problems some weeks ago, but I have to tell you that has been cleared up it appears to me. Food has remained excellent throughout. this is a great place, we go at least once a week and cannot stay away!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for a birthday dinnerWe went for a birthday dinner and one in our group used a walker, and there was no problem with that. The appetizers came quickly and the other dishes--which were delightfully spiced vegetables along with one chicken--also came in good time. We ordered one whole chicken for 4 of us--it was plenty and we took about 1/2 home. It was moist and tasty, but unless you are a fried chicken fan I wouldn't necessarily recommend it over the other dishes. The chocolate pudding for dessert was a perfect ending.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at Ma'ono. Brunch was delicious. Everyone was pleased with their choices and we all said we'd love to come back. I had to make a change to our reservation somewhat last minute and they were very accommodating. All of the staff was very friendly and attentive.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Restaurant Week menu wasThe Restaurant Week menu was NOT the usual rehashed, reduced portion offerings of standard menu items that you see in many restaurants. The portions were full-sized, the selections were creative and clearly showed a Hawaiian inspiration, and the waitress said they were developed especially for Restaurant Week. For instance, the ferns were crisp but caramelized, like they had been sautéed quickly on a hot grill -- excellent! So don't limit yourself to the headline fried chicken, but look for intriguing dishes in the rest of the menu.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMa'Ono didn't disappoint.Ma'Ono didn't disappoint. The food is great, and the Fried Chicken dinner certainly lives up to its reputation, although the sides weren't all that memorable. The breakfast is outstanding as well, and who wouldn't like a bottomless mimosa that you will never see the bottom of.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe like this place, and goWe like this place, and go in regularly, but it has its service problems. First, a 7:45 reservation on a weekend means you might get a seat at 8:15. They don't have this down. Once seated on this night we waited, no exaggeration, 7 minutes before anyone said anything and before water was poured in our glasses, another four before anyone asked about wine, another four to get that. Would not be so bad, except people that were seated after us, right next to us, had drinks and were ordering before we got out wine! I am always in that section, the slow one, and cannot figure it out! I will say this, if you point it out, they do try to make up for it, and are very nice people!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food, don't neglectOutstanding food, don't neglect the sides, every single one of which was delicious, and the best Whiskey Sour I've had in ... well, I guess the best I've ever had. Delightful experience overall.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWent in for resturant weekWent in for resturant week overall good food, Had a few mishaps with the food not being put in the computer but was compensated in the end. Will return again.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a party of 6 and IWe had a party of 6 and I made a reservation ahead of time. They sat us as soon as we arrived. I was surprised the restaurant wasn't busier for Restaurant Week. I thought the chicken was very good. It was crispy and juicy and the dipping sauces were yummy. I felt the kimchi portion was a bit small for the amount of chicken and I suggest offering a one refill. The trout, grits, sweet rolls, and brussels were all very good. The pork buns were a bit dry and didn't seem very special. I plan on coming back for brunch because that menu looks great too.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was terrific. Food serverFood was terrific. Food server was crabby and unpleasant -- the only disappointing aspect to an otherwise fun night out.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was great! I wentThis place was great! I went there for brunch on Easter mainly for the $12 bottomless mimosas. The french toast with chicken nuggets came with both sausage gravy and syrup, and it's the best combination! The kitchen is open so you can see all the other yummy things people are ordering as well.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, very noisy andGreat food, very noisy and a bit too dark. Food made up for it3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGimme that chicken.Delicious chicken, great service, chill environment! I will absolutely come here again! And I will def. be telling a lot of people about it. :)3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely dinner atWe had a lovely dinner at Ma'Ono. The service was perfect and our food outstanding. The Brussels sprouts in particular were the best I ever had.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI can walk to this restaurantI can walk to this restaurant so I go often. I love the vibe at this place. It's almost always full of people and conversation and laughter, yet you can have an intimate conversation as well. Many menu items are unexpected and interesting -- which is what I like best. However they have stopped offering oysters, which I miss terribly.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMService not up to what weService not up to what we have usually experienced here, took a long time, things were forgotten, just not as good, but we will be back.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
