  • "I love Mantra for the food and the service. From the table side prepared chaat to the varies menu including everything from lamb to lobster, the flavors are outstanding."

  • "We've been here before but are always thrilled by the level of excellence this restaurant possesses. The warmth of the wait staff is only exceeded by their delightfully professional service. The food is outrageously delicious. Their sea bass in a curry sauce was perfectly spiced and layered with flavor--not the yellow idea many have of curry. Their shrimp masala was creatively served in shot glasses with a taste of the spicy sauce in the glass. 5 huge shrimp for the portion. Basmati rice w/peas is the accompaniment to the entrees and was a great way to cool down the heat of the sauce. Their garlic naan bread is to die. We indulged in an interesting saffron crème brule An exceptional meal in a lovely restaurant."

  • "This elegant Indian establishment has the most wonderful food…great service and gorgeous ambiance. The jazz group entertaining in the lounge (Saturdays) was a definite plus! The music was a lovely backdrop to an already great dining experience. NY stye…this restaurant is sure to please! If this is you pleasure, try Mantra…you will love it!"

  • "Most of the time i go to Indian restaurants, the menus are very basic and ordinary. The menu here had a great selection of very interesting and creative dishes. There were 3 of us and we ordered 3 appetizers and 3 dinners to share family style. Everything was terrific. The presentation and food quality was outstanding. We had a sea bass appetizer which was simply delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be going back."

  • "The food here is good but not great. I find their food to be a little westernized but overall it's a pretty decent place."

  • "We had been there for lunch before, but this was our first time for dinner. Our server was quite helpful with the menu and made great suggestions to guide us through the dining experience. Terrific"

  • "Mantra is a go-to restaurant for great food, but this time...our wait staff was overly solicitous. Our waiter tried several times to 'recommend' the most expensive items on the menu four or five times."

  • "I like Mantra a lot as the food here is a great variation of traditional India"

  • "Great Food, Nice Atmosphere ~ Your Hostess was Overwhelmed. Poor girl was trying to check coats, answer phones, greet people at the door - she became so confused she forgot what she was telling people ~ they got annoyed an left! We watched customer after customer leave!!! even those with reservations...easily over 12 tables....and crazy thing was once the surge slowed and tables flipped in about 20 minutes... you had half the restaurant open!!! - If you had better communication between the Manager and the front end the floor manager could have told her only 15-20 min wait as opposed to the hour wait she started to tell people - I just don't want to see you turn people off....because once we were seated we had an excellent experience."

  • "It is one of the best restaurants in the Bergen County for tasty and authentic Indian cusiine. The ambiance is elegant but yet not stuffy.. The restaurant has a trendy lounge that you can just go for drinks. I took my boyfriend who never ate Indian food before.. He absolutely loved the food and the restaurant.. Highly recommended."

  • "I have never been disappointed in a meal at Mantra. The food is consistently delicious, the service attentive and friendly without being overbearing. if you enjoy Indian cuisine, Mantra is a tasty treat."

  • "It was a Sat night and large party dominated most of the dining room. We were seated next to the screens that separated the few outside diners from the party-goers. Probably as a result of the party, the food service and quality was highly erratic. Those of us who wanted their food very mild got it too fiery, and for me, when I asked for extremely spicy, I got it bland (even after they sent the sauce back to the kitchen to fire it up.). Although our waiter was very nice the service we received was so-so. Coffee was cold and we had to repeatedly remind them of their promise to bring us hotter coffee Our entire dining experience was really compromised by the loud noise. They should not have booked such a party on a Saturday night."

  • "I went to the restaurant mainly because I was craving some Nan and it came up on OpenTable.com! I checked the reviews and restaurant website and so that it was reasonable had meals that I ate, and reviews were great to excellent. I figured why not, let's try this. Well, we were in for a big surprise when we arrived and found out that it was BUFFET!!! $11.95 BUFFET!!! We were absolutely delighted when we saw all the offerings and items that we were actually going to get off the menu for $18.95 and more. It was amazing. The staff was courteous and friendly. They were attentive to our needs, requests and answered our questions in regards to the amount of spice with the food. Everything was amazing and great variety. I will be back!"

  • "I normally don't eat Indian food and it's been a while since I'd been to such a restaurant so I'm not the best reviewer. The food and the service were good, that about it."

  • "Having been to many Indian Restaurants , this was the first time i was presented with such small portion sizes. Considering the pricing, the restaurant should seriously consider working on satisfying portion sizes."

  • "One of the things I like about Mantra is the creative menu they have. They have taken Indian food up a notch by merging it with spices and ideas from other cuisines resulting in some mouth-watering tasteful options. Would go back in a jiffy."

  • "Friday night is a busy night so definitely use Open Table to make reservations! Food is very good and service is excellent. The room is dark and could be romantic but a little hard to read menu. Good selection of Indian food and nice wines. A friend and I were there for over 2 hours and no one rushed us. All items are a la carte and somewhat pricey but worth it in flavor."

  • "The ambiance is elegant and service attentive. But the food is no better than you can get at any Bergen County Indian restaurant for 30% less money. To charge $28 for 4 shrimp is a joke. We also had to beg the waitress to get us a 3rd of the tiny dessert dumplings so each of the people in our party of 3 could taste them. We ordered 2 other desserts so we weren't being cheap (even though the kitchen was). At this restaurant's premium prices, they should serve portiona ample enough for everyone , when it's a small party, to try the food . The restaurant also ignored that it was my birthday-- which I told them when I reserved. Even 1 candle would have been nice . Had high hopes for Mantra , but it is just not a good value."

  • "This was 1 of many visits that I've made to Mantra. Overall, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The "table side Chaat" is my favorite appetizer. They have changed their "mango shrimp" appetizer, however. The sauce is not as tasty as I remember previously, almost like jarred mango chutney. Everything else was wonderful, particularly the sea bass entree."

  • "We've been to Mantra many times, and keep coming back for the consistently excellent food and stylish vibe. Mantra is a great place to go relax with friends - make time for a before or after dinner drink in the cozy bar area."

  • "The matar paneer here was heavenly- tasted very fresh and light. We also enjoyed the chicken kabob appetizer. The spicing was just right and you did not leave the meal with the heavy feeling you get from too much ghee. Waiters pleasant and helpful. Great Indian beer"

  • "We keep returning and experiencing a lovely satisfying evening. Service is beyond superb. Don't miss the crab chaat appetizer. Our server Josan has helped us to navigate the selections on the menu to our delicious enjoyment."

  • "Ok, I still think the main reason I want to go to a restaurant is for the food. Rest was not quite satisfying. Service was really not up to the mark. Nobody bothered to fill up the water unless we really call out for it and most of them were too busy to even look up. Coming back to food, I simply adored the Lamb Biriyani. Fish Amritsar as an appetizer might not be too interesting but it would have been a lot better if it wasn't cold. Multani Ghost is another one I would recomend you to try and maybe the Malabari Lobster as well. Price is not too high for the food that was served to us, so I would say its worth a try. The bottom line for me: I would probably use takeout the next time. Or maybe just use the bar!"

  • "We chose Mantra at the last minute. Basically we were looking for a change of pace from the usual Steak/Seafood/Sushi fare. We've had Indian a few times, but the food was really good at Mantra. On top, the wine we had with it was great and pared really well with a variably sweet and savory-spicy meal. By the time we had our appetizers we were convinced Mantra was a great choice. The main courses and sides were absolutely fun while still being complex and engaging. The atmosphere was lively but relaxed and the interior was comfortable and well appointed. It's hard to criticize the place, but our table was close to the front door which had no vestibule. In the winter we might have had an issue. That said, if you like Indian, you have to go!"

  • "I've been here several times with my colleagues and, most recently, with family. Everything we tried from the chef's special treat to the appetizers, main course and desert was superbly cooked and presented. Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants I have been to. The restaurant is clean and feels extremely cozy despite being close to the highway. The waiters are also very attentive and courteous. Definitely come here if you crave good quality Indian food!"

  • "I had heard a few good reviews about mantra. So I tried it. I'll rate each dish Stuffed goose martini-bad 1/5 Pear martini-not bad at all 3/5 Sesame paneer- good 4/5 Scallops-tasty, but lacking anything special 3/5 Chicken khaophali- nothing special, no complexities, flavor awas missing, all that really came through was tomato yogurt and spicy 2/5 Lobster masala-(I was excited for this one)- cool presentation with the lobster tail. But bad. Basically paprika and lobster 1/5 Raita- very good actually - 4/5 Rasmalai dessert- first time with this one, really tasty! Well seasoned. 4/5 Overall experience was a 2.5/5 . I was disappointed and will stick with brick lane curry house."

  • "Besides being absolutely beautiful, this restaurant has a diversified menu with so many wonderful things to choose from. We ilk to share a variety of appetizers....the cauliflower in a delicious sauce, the fried tilapia, mantra shrimp to name a few. The spinach entree is excellent also (paneer). For dessert, I recommend the flaming bananas with ice cream! You will love your dining experience from the moment you enter this exquisite restaurant."

  • "Amazing food especially the appetizers like chili paneer and gobi manchurian. Great ambience, dim romantic and great for special occasions. Its my favorite place for upscale indian cuisine. Had my hubbys 40th dinner party here. They messed up and booked the private room to us and another party which ruined the vision i had for his 40th but overall they gave us a table and it was a good night."

  • "We like this restaurant for both lunch (great buffet selection) and also for dinner. The food is excellent quality with both typical Indian dishes and some innovative ones. They were able to accommodate some of our food requests, including some special requirements for some in our party. The downside is the mandatory 18% tip even for four (though i would have tipped them that any ways!)"

  • "Awesome food and great service. The dishes have their distinct taste unlike other restaurants where all gravy taste same. Very clean restaurant. Buffet is nicely laid out with not too much unwanted choice. I personally like it that way u can see all the options before you start filing out your plate and end up wasting."

  • "I enjoyed the taste of the food, but it seemed pricey. I know my local spot makes food just as tasty for less. I would still return, on occasion. Nice ambience. The lounge near the bar was very cute, but they don't open very late, which would have been nice for lounging."

  • "Food was great, though some of the dishes could have been better. For the price, there should have been more dishes to offer. Limited variety, great appetizers, delicious dessert, and great atmosphere."
