  • "Way way overpriced. We had a $700 gift certificate and that was $150 short of total. Matching wine was mediocre. Most of food was avg. the bread was the best item on the menu. Would certainly never go back. Service was ok. Servers were polite and friendly. It took almost 4 hrs to complete dinner. We were sitting there waiting for the next course 75% of the time. "

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Manresa. Despite the individual portions being small, because so many courses were served we left feeling full (they even give you delicious treats to go). We appreciated the diversity of the ingredients and enjoyed the different flavor combinations. The dishes were all plated beautifully. It was an anniversary celebration and they had a card at our table signed by the staff and also treated us to an extra dessert dish. Overall we had a really great evening with great service. "

  • "I am not a foodie but my fiancee is. Tasted stuff I've never tasted before and it was quite good. Service was ridiculously good. Fiancee was very happy so I'm happy."

  • "A unique and very special dining experience. This was the "birthday dinner" of a lifetime. Our "wait person" was perfect and we were made to feel very comfortable and welcomed."

  • "Tasting menu was creative and everything was 'fresh' and interesting both in taste and presentation. The wine flight was perfect, with no wine overpowering any entrée or dessert. Perfect for that special occasion."

  • "Over rated. Chef was trying too hard to be creative. There are too many courses but nothing substantial. We were full at the end from the time waiting It was an experience though"

  • "An amazing 14 course meal with small bites of many varieties and flavors. There were a couple dishes we did not care for such as the striped jack fish, salmon roe with almond cream, and black cod even though we like fish. The "Into the vegetable garden" was an amazing salad and we would have enjoyed more of that. Fantastic fresh bread. Overall an amazing meal and dining experience. More pricey than we anticipated but you are paying for fantastic food and service."

  • "Excellent food, attractive room, service started with impeccable and polish. The last 2 courses we were 1 of 2 tables left and service for those were less professional."

  • "Second time to Manresa and we have nothing to complain about. Dishes are beautifully presented and the food was excellent. Though there were four courses of desert, I was done by the third course."

  • "It was one of the finest restaurant I have ever visited. The service is epic able with great personalities on all those who serve. Definitely a 5- star facility & great for those special occasions. The chef does an excellent job of pairing the different spices, often creates a party in your mouth. Great Job!!!"

  • "Although crazy expensive, this is definitely a once in a lifetime dining experience for those open to trying new things. Each of the courses were bite sized pieces of creative genius. The environment was very zen-like and the service was OUTSTANDING. Only go with someone you like enough to spend a solid 3-4 hours with!"

  • "Manresa is a very special restaurant. The atmosphere features a dining room that is contemporary but also elegant while the lighting is romantic but also focused so that the food presentations really pop. The food is light, creative, seasonal, and about as farm-to-table as you can get. Manresa has moved to a one menu only format and I think it is a great change (my recent dinner here might be my best Manresa experience to date). The service is also exceptional--very personable but also polished, polite and professional. Manresa is a very special restaurant. While The French Laundry might feel like the best of its kind, Manresa is truly one of a kind."

  • "Manresa and Chef Kinch continue to stun and surprise and amaze me. I have been over 2 dozen times. This past meal was probably the best ever. Tasting menu. Great premium wine pairing. Impeccable service. Perfect pace. attention to detail. wow. when does it get 3rd michelin star ?"

  • "Got four and a half hours to eat over twenty unique courses (and the money to burn)? Manresa's service was exceptional, with a friendly staff and choreographed movements that were entertaining on their own. The portions were typically tasting-menu teensy but I walked out of there completely stuffed. The quality, presentation, and flavors of the dishes themselves were excellent. Loved the tidepool soup -- the fish fillet and scallops within were some of the best I've ever tasted. I won't be going back for a while (not exactly in my normal monthly restaurant budget), but I will certainly recommend, and remember."

  • "I know the reputation of this restaurant and was deeply disappointed with my dinner experience. To begin with, there was a very raucous group behind us so that distracted from the experience. We probably should have asked to be moved. There were too many too tiny courses and most of them were seafood. If you did nt like seafood you were in trouble. The scallop dish and the beef dish were the best I have ever had and the breads were lovely. The service was very good but over the top. For each tiny course, there was a server for each person. It would have been better to have only one server and more food. Given the prix fixe cost, I was very disappointed in the overall experience and would not recommend it"

  • "This will be one of the most expensive, but also one of the most amazing, meals you will ever have in your lifetime. For most of us, it's a place you'll go only on the most special of occasions. You need to know in advance that you will not be "choosing" your menu ~ they will serve you (& everyone else) a 12-14 course meal based on the seasonal and local ingredients that are available. If you have any food allergies, intolerances, etc., let them know beforehand ~ they will handle it more professionally & seamlessly than you've ever experienced. Other than that, the only decision-making will be whether or not you will have one of the two available wine pairings (regular or premium) with your meal."

  • "We had a 15 course meal over 3 hours that felt like the equivalent of two pieces of sushi and three dandelions. I appreciate the idea of small, perfect courses that highlight technique and ingredients to celebrate a special occasion. However, the pacing was such that we were still starving five courses into the meal. When I asked the server to speed up our meal, the time between piece of fish + flower dropped from 15 minutes to 10 - far too long given the size of the portion. I've been privileged to have a lot of amazing meals in my life; this felt like a dated concept that was in no way worth the (exorbitant) amount of money I paid."

  • "We found the ambience and the service at Manressa were excellent. The food was more than unimpressive particularly considering the price. The portions were minuscule and the flavors and texture contrasts were underwhelming. A micro salad course had no dressing and was flat and largely tasteless. I have dined at the French Laundry, Quince and other excellent restaurants where I've been captivated by the artistry and superb flavors of the food. The Manressa food was nowhere near the quality of those other restaurants. Four stars from the San Francisco chronicle. REALLY??? Chip Klunick."

  • "2nd trip to Manresa. Food and wine pairing was pretty good - some courses better than others. Service was disappointing. We sat next to a VIP, who warranted 2 visits from the chef, at least 3 special courses, impeccable attention from the wait staff, and a visit to the kitchen. While we in no way begrudge VIPs, for a two star Michelin restaurant that charges what it does, Manresa should ensure that all of its guests receive VIP treatment - which is what sets the truly top restaurants (eg French Laundry, Boulevard, Daniel, etc.) apart. It was quite offputting to have everyone fawning over the couple next to us, providing them with several extras, whereas we were an afterthought - could barely get them to offer us coffee or tea."

  • "One of the best meals I have ever had. I do miss the opportunity to have a 3 pr 4 course menu . With a single menu I also miss the opportunity to read the menu before hand as that was a great source of anticipation and entertainment. I do appreciate getting a copy of the menu at the end of the meal along with the take home treats."

  • "The "Seasonal and Spontaneous" tasting menu takes the diner through a delightfully memorable dining experience. We have never appreciated every single crumb on each dish -- every element on the plate has a purpose and flavor. Just wonderful. Service was impeccable."

  • "Simply a journey through food and wine. Manresa can take you to a trip to exotic places from the comfort of your table."

  • "The quality of the food and the timing of each course changed dramatically after the amazing chilled oyster. We asked our sommelier how long the meal would last, to which he answered, two and a half hours, three at the most. After sitting and waiting almost three and a half hours with less than spectacular courses, we asked for the check and one desert, bypassing two additional courses. Additionally, we also had a couple of food avoidances that we expressed at the start to which we were told nothing could be done. We all left completely disappointed and clear that we would not return or recommend Manresa with such a disappointing outcome. Our guess is that had David Kinch been in the kitchen, we would not have had this experience. JoAnn"

  • "This was my first trip to Manresa. The service was impeccable. The food was great. a little more exotic than I would normally prefer but when you're at a high end restaurant, the chef's skill comes out in everything that is prepared. There was a lot of seafood courses on the tasting menu. Everything was fantastic. the dinner took 3 hours but was definitely worth the time, The food is pricy but worth it for the special occasion. I look forward to the next opportunity I have to have such a great dining experience."

  • "Out of town foodies dining at French Laundry, Atelier Crenn and then Manresa on consecutive nights. All were excellent but by a narrow margin Manresa was our favorite overall dining experience this trip. Exceptional scallops, one of the two best wagyu beef dishes I've ever had (the other was at Alinea), garden fresh produce and very good wine pairings to match the food. Gluten free bread for my celiac wife tasted as good as real bread, which she appreciated. The front of the house was very polished and professional, and the chef is very talented. Note they now only offer a long tasting menu so this is a pretty expensive restaurant, but for a special night out this is a great option."

  • "Simply amazing. From start to finish. An intensely choreographed journey through a world of tastes and textures. Loved it. Something everyone should experience once in their lifetime. The only complaint I have is that my water glass was empty at a point and I had to use my boyfriends, but otherwise, it was a perfect evening."

  • "I recently ate dinner at Manresa with a close friend. (This is the kind of place where you want to be with someone you like to talk to, if not it will be a long quiet experience -- our meal took about 4 hours to work through.) The food was wonderful and while not all of the wine suited my personal taste, I enjoyed the experience none the less. Beyond the food and wine, the service at Manresa is among the best I've experienced. The food did not arrive too fast or too slow. Water and bread refills were plentiful. When there was a question about a wine or dish that the server could not answer, they returned with the answer promptly. I definitely recommend this as one of those very special occasion places, especially if you are a foodie."

  • "The food here is simply fabulous. Chef David Kinch has a distinctive style that produces consistently brilliant dishes. Sommelier Jeff Bareilles is a white wine savant. The service and atmosphere are nearly perfect. Having said all that, I will not be returning. The cost is simply too high for me. Our dinner for two, with premium wine pairing and some extras, exceeded $1000, and this just crosses a line. It's been some years since I went to the French Laundry and perhaps this is what top tier restaurants cost today. But, for me it's too much. I know several places in the bay area where I can get a brilliant meal for two for under $600 and just can't justify the cost for Manresa. But if money is no object for you, then by all means, go."

  • "We enjoyed a dinner at Manresa last year, so we really looked forward to returning. The tasting menu this time was a big disappointment as were the wine pairings. Dinner was approximately $1,500.00 for four. All of the "savory" dishes were seafood or vegetarian except one beef dish. When you have that many courses, in my opinion, variety and some more exotic dishes are expected. Most of the seafood offerings were good but bland. I imagine the idea was to be understated to allow the taste of the seafood to come through but the selections were very mild in flavor and paired with very understated wines--not exceptional for the "premium" pairing we paid for. The sweet selections were fantastic. I just wish the rest of the meal was as good."

  • "Beautiful setting and private. Enjoyable dinner, set at a leisurely pace meant to relax the diner. Sometimes it felt as if there were too many service staff on the floor for such a small room, as you could see them trying to maneuver around each other and/or be in the way of each other. I did feel it was sometimes intrusive on the dining experience.......too many people making a big deal of everything at your table. I missed the feeling of luxury, of it being about the diner, instead of the service and food. Most great restaurants of the world ensure that the service is unobtrusive and delicate, which was the main thing missing in this dining experience. Food was delicate and balanced."

  • "the food and service were excellent. the wine pairings started out very weak (Roederer sparkling wine was marginal and next wine was tasteless), but improved as the courses moved on. The amount of wine given was very small considering the cost of the tasting. The cheese course was very innovative and opened my eyes to great cheeses from unexpected places. Once the restaurant filled up (we had a 6 pm time slot), the pace of the meal slowed considerably, but that was okay. We love the decor, especially the japanese print that changed as the light in the room changed over the course of the evening. overall a fun, innovative and great meal."
