A word from Manos Nouveau
Latin fusion fare is the culinary focus at Manos Nouveau. Owned by Mission native Manuel Montalban, the name, which translates in Spanish to "new hands," is meant to signify the new talent in the kitchen, Yucatecan chef Gualberto Nic Camara. The menu is meant to emphasize Latin flavors from Mexico & Peru, with dashes of inspiration from Italian & French cuisine & a Californian focus on ingredients. Works from local artists decorate the modern space & many of the plates were handmade by artisans in the Mission. Dishes are divided into "bocadillos" & larger plates & include starters like three kinds of ceviche, a mango-chayote-fennel salad & prawns & yucca in an aji sauce. Bigger plates like roasted salmon over green chimole rice, duck breast in a squash sauce with balsamic reduction & a grilled ribeye over seared brussels sprouts round out the menu offerings. The wine list emphasizes Spanish, Chilean & Argentine vintages, as well as a handful of Latin & Californian beers by the bottle.

The food was different from other Latin American restaurant and the sauces were exceptional. There were variety of flavors from the different items we ordered. Nothing was overpowering. It would be good to have bread to dip in the sauces.

From the minute we entered the restaurant, it was a great experience. The hostess is completely knowledgable and engaged with the food, wine and surroundings. We shared the small plates and the entrees and that worked well for 3 people. It may be more challenging with a different number. My personal favorite for the evening was the salmon atop the unique black risotto. We dined on a Sunday night so about half the tables were filled but it made for a lovely opportunity to chat and hear each other. We started with the cava which was excellent and followed it with a lovely Spanish temparillo from Rioja. The flavors of the dishes were unique but delicious and the plates were well conceived.

Away from the more popular parts of the Mission, but a great find. Easy to get reservations during dinner, great food and service. The outside doesn't look like anything special, but the inside has a nice layout to match the food and service. Highly recommend this place if you are looking to try something new in the Mission. The food is Latin Fusion. I could tell some food was Peruvian and Argentine, but couldn't figure out off hand what the influence of other dishes were. The fish ceviche and the chicken meatballs are great starters.

I first visited MN during their soft opening a few months back. I was lucky enough to go with a big group so we seriously tried everything. I've been returning for delicious dinners ever since then. 1st the service is phenomenal. Caitlyn, is the most attentive, friendly and overall helpful server. Her recommendations are not to be missed. 2nd the atmosphere is intimate but casual and the decor is comfortable and inviting. 3rd the food is always on point. The scallops are cooked to perfection, the black bean soup is savory with just the right amount of spice, and the Latin Chicken Cordon Bleu haunts my dreams. I go to MN for the full experience. I always am treated as a valued customer and I always leave very satisfied with my meal.

First time here; selected from Open Table's list of restaurants new to their site. Starters: 3 Colors Ceviche & Prawns a la rivière. Latter had perfectly cooked prawns with a sauce that was beyond delicious. Lacking? Bread to soak up sauce. Main dishes: Fish & prawns consommé and filet mignon. Two dishes that were totally consumed. Just the right portions to satisfy without satiating one. A well flavored Sauvignon Blanc complimented our meal and the espressos after completed an excellent dinner for 2. Will definitely return to try other dishes & the prawns rivière again.

After reading the reviews (thanks, Opentable!) we decided to give this Mission District restaurant a try. What a pleasant surprise. The wait staff was gracious and attentive, but what will make us return is the food. We had the scallops as a starter; I had the salmon over chimole rice, and my husband tried the latin style chicken cordon bleu. We were both very happy with our choices. The wine list was interesting, and the wine we chose went very well with our food. So yes, we intend to go back (fairly soon, I hope).

We dined here for an informal business meeting and were seated in a private nook in the back of the restaurant that fit us just perfectly. The server was very knowledgeable about the ingredients of the dishes and pairings of wine with each course. She was attentive but respectful of not interrupting. The food was delicious and the tuna ceviche out of this world! Definitely a neighborhood gem. Only set back was parking which I hear is a common complaint of this area.

What a pleasant surprise. The mix of Spanish/French in the name had me wavering on whether this would be a good experience. Usually I believe in sticking to one thing and doing right. Well in this case, they stuck to doing their thing and doing it great! Simple but flavourful dishes that seemed delicately crafted and executed flawlessly. We loved everything we had and look forward to going back!

We wanted to order the entire menu. Ceviche and duck were delicious. Brussel sprouts were less cooked and more fresh than most restaurants in SF; I liked it actually. Yummy wine. Great service. Great new spot in the Mission.

My wife and I treid Manos Nouveau while despite the fact it had no ratings. We were very pleased and appreciate the opportunity to get the word out about this understated, quality restaurant. Menu has a modest number of selections, but all tempting; the qualilty of the dishes we ordered was excellent. Service was personable. Not crowded (until we left), but we had no trouble conversing at the low ambient noise level we experienced. A true gem worth a visit.

We had a very fine evening at Manos Nouveau and were pleasantly surprised to find a mostly European-style menu with Latin American accents. We started with fish and prawn ceviche - delicate and fresh. The main dishes - salmon with rice and peas, and filet mignon with ratatouille - were nicely prepared and very French. Our server had good recommendations among the restaurant's selection of Chilean, Argentine and a few French and California wines. A plantain dessert was just the right amount of sweet and wholesome.
