  • "It was quiet with a nice ambience. Not a kid in sight so probably not kid friendly. Food was great. Service was odd. Our waitress seemed to forget us a couple of times and was a tad rude. She also had words with another waitress in front of all in the dining room. Didn't seem in character with the restaurant. My feeling is that with a different waitress, our experience would have been better."

  • "We have been coming to the Manor on and off for the past fifteen years. The setting is still wonderful but the service was poor. I think she was the chef's mother!! Took no criticism regarding the meal and never heard what we had to say. The spaetzle was horrible. Dry, cold and had obviously been sitting in the pan since the prep time. They were hard pieces of paste. The stake was of mediocre quality and the risotto soupy and overly cooked. Very disappointing. But mostly the waitress could use a good dose of Disney school and should really know the menu rather than running to the kitchen to get answers to the guests question. The setting is really romantic but the experience is overpriced and not of good quality."

  • "...The Manor on Golden Pond when in the lakes region. Although the mansion and landscape could use a little "sprucing up" don't let that deter you from a very fine dining experience. The interesting menu is small, which we appreciated, allowing one to comfortably choose rather than be overwhelmed by choices. The food was prepared to perfection and beautifully presented and the portion size ensured that one still had room for dessert, which is not to be missed. I had tournedos, cooked medium rare; they practically melted in my mouth. My wife had grilled swordfish which I had not had for many years but savored the taste of what she offered me. Salads are unusual and the ingredients must've been fresh from the garden. We enjoyed every bite!"

  • "We went there for the first time to celebrate a birthday and weren't disappointed. The rooms are gracious (we ate in the former billiard room), the staff are friendly and attentive, and the menu's imaginative. We'll definitely go again, but probably not with the two young children included in our party of six; there was no accommodation for them as to either seating or menu choice. And we'll hope they have more than one bottle of our chosen wine in stock."

  • "This was our first visit. It was a WOW! The first week of March is deep into the off season in the Lakes Region. The Manor had no guests; we were the only diners that night; yet the dining room was opened and we were the only guests. Most places would have just not bothered to prepare and serve 2 dinners for one night. We had the chef's tasting menu. It's a 7 course meal. The preparation, presentation and quality rivaled some of the best European restaurants we have visited. We ordered a 2009 French Bordeaux at a reasonable price. The dining room is small yet comfortable. The staff prepared several personalized special birthday recognitions and (thankfully) refrained from singing happy birthday .....highly recommend."

  • "We love this beautiful Inn and Restaurant. In the past, I have rated the experience 5 star without reservation. Unfortunately, this year our dinner, The Chef's Choice, was very good, but not outstanding. Our steaks were overcooked and the desert, a Valentine desert was inedible. The other courses, especially the lobster bisque, were excellent. Our waitress, was a nice woman, but seemed overwhelmed. We had to ask for silverware repeatedly and water refills also. We ordered a fine bottle of French wine. The server never offered to refill our glasses, which was fine with me because I'd rather pour my own. We will be back and I hope to find 5 star food and service again. In any case, this place is worth a visit."

  • "My wife and I celebrated Valentine's Day at Manor on Golden Pond's Van Horn Dining Room. This was our first visit to the manor and it was a great new experience. Although tempted by the chef's tasting, we both chose the Maplewood smoked duck's breast, starting with the lobster bisque. The duck was perfectly prepared. I would highly recommend it. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive and they coordinated well with each other. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace. It was romantic and the food was excellent. The menu is upscale but well worth it. My complements to the chef."

  • "We made these reservation to celebrate an anniversary as well as another special event. We arrived early so that we could have some drinks and relax. When we arrived, we wanted to make them aware we were hear and were greeted with "your table will be ready in twenty minutes, your reservations are for 8". I had to ask where the bar was as it was not adjacent to the dining area. We then had towait 10 minutes in the bar before seeing anyone. Not the reception we expected. We were not seated until 8:30 a half hour late. The menu was very limited and the quality was not consistent with the price. Also, there was a dinner party in an adjacent room that was very loud and disturbing."

If we lived in New England, this would be our romantic Fall getaway, but it will suffice to be our new annual retreat for dinner on our annual Squam vacation.   • "The food was exquisite and the service was perfect. The setting was reminiscent of a turn of the century chateau with a beautiful view of the mountains. Definitely go around 7pm in the summertime. You'll need to experience the ambience of the sun saturating the hills as you enjoy a nice glass of wine with your meal and gaze into your lover's eyes."
