Mannequin PisWe were in Mannequin Pis onWe were in Mannequin Pis on 5/14/2013. The food was great! The selection of beers was overwhelming! The staff was very helpful and food was served verty quickly. Definitely will recomend to everyone we know and we will try to get there again soon.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy our diningWe always enjoy our dining experience at Mannequin Pis in every respect. It reminds us of our years living in Holland and traveling frequently to Belgium, which has the best food in Europe, especially the mussels, seafood, beer and chocolate. The restaurant's casual atmosphere is authentic, the wait staff are knowledgeable and accommodating, and the food and drink never disappoint. I had the best mussels of my life the other evening -- the "Snob" preparation with a touch of lobster bisque in the broth.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBelgian,Delicious, and FunWell known in the Washington, D.C. region, Mannequin Pis is best known for its variety of mussels, but it only starts there. Every creative choice of appetizer, salad, main course from fish to beef or veal, or dessert, is a work of art -- beautiful in presentation and even better in taste. The menu is varied and generous in offerings but this great restaurant sticks to its knitting by consistently doing what it does best. It's a small and intimate space. It is absolutely worth the price of admission (a bit on the high side) and service is always sophisticated and charming. It is truly a destination and not just for special occasions. It's truly a slice of Europe all over again.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Restaurant in OlneyWe discovered Mannequin Pis from groupon and this is now our 3rd time here. We love it and will keep on coming back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always have a wonderfulWe always have a wonderful experience at Mannequinn Pis.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMannequin Pis is intimateMannequin Pis is intimate - you wouldn't want to show up without reservations or you might have to wait. The food was fantastic. I had the bruxelles mussels, and they were better than the mussels I had in Brussels. My husband ordered the Carbonnade Flamande, a Flemish beef stew, and it was also delicious. We shared the lobster bisque, which was delicious. I probably wouldn't order the bisque again because the mussels and accompanying fries are filling enough.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIntimate restaurant with amazingIntimate restaurant with amazing mussels. prompt service and intimate dining4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food!Escargot, Amish Chicken, Belgian Beer, Cappuccino and Bread Pudding. That says it all. This was a fantastic meal, and I recommend every item I had. The Cherry Brandy sauce on the Amish Chicken had such a great flavor, I savored every drop. If someone in your party gets mussels, don't forget to sample the broth with either a spoon or by dipping crusty bread if they let you. My wife is great and always saves some mussels, vegetables and broth for me.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLess stellar than before....The mussels were fresh, plump and delicious. We were very disappointed that the pommes frites were not the twice fried crisp Belgian fries we had in the past and tasted average, at best. We enjoyed the 6-pack beer sampler, perfect for 4 as the bottles are 11.5 oz each.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHard to get to. WonderfulHard to get to. Wonderful food, charming small restaurant.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMcreative, tasty foods -- nicecreative, tasty foods -- nice variety to choose from -- the chef pays attention to detail, and also seems to care as much about the vegetable 'side' dishes as the main course. My absolute favorite salad -- hearts of palm, white and green asparagus, presented beautifully...4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this place so muchWe love this place so much that we took friends there for Dinner. The food is very authentic and they have a wonderful selection of Belgian beers and French wines. Their specialty is their mussel pots but all their food is good, especially their wild mushroom soup which is one of our favorites.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit,This was our first visit, but we went knowing ahead of time what was in store: very small restaurant, tightly packed tables that were always full, and expensive--but a menu of unusual delights in both food and drink. It is definitely a special occasion place if you like mussels, unusual sausages, and international beers. The Belgian chocolate dessert was exquisite. Actually getting to the restaurant is tricky--it took us three wrong turns before finding our way in off of Georgia Avenue.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the best meal weThis was the best meal we have had a t Mannequin Pis in months. We were there with my 93 year old mother in law. The table request was honored. The wait staff was appropriately attentive and the food was even better than usual. We will return.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I had a wonderfulMy wife and I had a wonderful dinner. We had been to Mannequin Pis once before, so the cozy dining area was not a surprise, but it is a fairly small restaurant and you will be close to your neighbors. Lobster bisque and seafood risotto were amazing! My wife's mussel pot was wonderful as usual with plenty of meat. Food can be on the rich side, but that is to be expected and the flavors were great. Try to save room for dessert! Service was excellent, available as needed, but not overly so. Definitely would recommend.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBrussels in MarylandGreat Belgium food and atmosphere. We'll go again and again.
A bit crowded....just like a restaurant in Brussels.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had Escargot, mussels,We had Escargot, mussels, Merguez sausage, spinach (the best sausage side), garlic fries and the pot of chocolate, all of which were excellent. we've been several times and the mussels and sausages are consistently excellent. It's too bad they don't allow substitution of the garlic fries instead of the regular fries (which although good, are not as special) as the side with the mussels.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the 2nd time we'veThis is the 2nd time we've eaten at this restaurant in the past year, this time was even better than the last time and we thought the last time was pretty darn good! We had a very good waiter, the food was great & we love the small dining atmoshere!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and friendlyExcellent food and friendly staff. The mussels are amazing and the beer is great. I would definitely recommend checking this restaurant out.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent for a couple.Dinner Wednesday evening with son who turned 27. Waiter was excellent. Gave us good advice on food and made a suggestion on the beer to accompany the meal. I was impressed on his knowledge of the beers (fantastic selection of beers). We spent almost two hours at the table and did not feel rushed. Very relaxed. A bit pricy though. Two of us, each had a bucket of muscles, a beer, and an after dinner port, total cost $107 (not including tip). This is nice for a couple, but I wouldn't want to take a large group there. Not an everyday place, but excellent for special occasions.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst timers - estremely satisfied! It was our first visit to Mannequin Pis and my girlfriend and I were delighted. As many previous reviewers have noted the tables are close together, but that didn't bother us in the least. And UNLIKE some previous reviewers claimed, the service was wonderful. The host was pleasant as soon as we walked in, our principal server was nice and attentive, and so was a second server who emptied my pot of mussel shells 3 times before I was finished with my 1/2 kilo mussel appetizer. We'll likely go again. (And again.)3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMannequin Pis is an excellentMannequin Pis is an excellent restaurant. The food has always been top drawer and service cannot be beaten. It is a low key atmosphere with high brow food and service.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFeel like you're dining in Europe! When we walk into Mannequin Pis, we feel like we have been somehow transported to Europe. This is a special place where the Mussels and Frites remind me of Brussels. The beer list is extensive. My wife enjoys the fish entrees.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMannequin pis je vous aime!If you want delicious food, this is the place to go! Make sure you try their crème brulée- divine! They also have a vegetarian plate that isn't on the menu, and is very tasty.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWill go again, loved food & serviceI took my mother here for her 60th birthday, just the two of us. We both crooned over the food!
Saffron mussel soup to start was amazing, sprouts with bacon were very good - unique combination, Bruxelles mussel pot wasn't my favorite - a lot of flavors that almost overpowered the mussels, and the sea bass was to die for! Bread and water replenished as needed.
Service was great, attentive but not overly aggressive! My only complaint about the ambiance is the noise, it is very loud. Lots of tiny well set tables crammed in allow you to hear every conversation around you! My mother actually took out her hearing aids. I had the joy of intimate details of the woman behind me's new relationship.:O3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. The mussels were divine, we had the snob mussels and the broth was terrific. The trout wrapped in bacon was delicious!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic restaurant! If I could have given 6 stars, I would have. The restaurant is a true gem. I have been there 2-3 times per year over the past 8 years or so and never been disappointed. It is hard to find and far out of the way when you have business in Bethesda or downtown DC, but it is worth every mile and every minute. You feel like you're in Brussels! The mussels are outstanding as are the Belgian beers.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you love mussels, come!I first came here in 1999, when the restaurant opened. For a variety of reasons, I had not returned but am so glad that I did! The food was as delicious as I remember, especially the big pot of mussels (we had the lobster bisque version). We also had the merguez sausage with red cabbage as a starter - also yummy. Service was attentive without being overbearing. This place is very small so you are very close to other diners but it didn't hamper our enjoyment. Charming, Belgian decor, warm ambiance, and clearly a neighborhood favorite (I would guess most of the diners were from Olney or Silver Spring).2/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
