Mango Peruvian Restaurant
The halibut ceviche was superb! The halibut ceviche was superb! Everything else was good, tasty, fresh, nice seasoning!6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMango is a wonderful findMango is a wonderful find in the heart of Washington Ave. The food is creative, enticing, and always delicious! We have worked closely with the staff on two group functions, and are also regular diners. Their Mango Mojitos and Sangria are amazing, and complement their food offerings. My husband is half Honduran and half Columbian, so the similar flavors of Peruvian cuisine taste like home!6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing eveningThe staff understood we did not want the night to be over too quickly and accommodated us in every way. The food was simply amazing. The menu had something for everyone. It was the experience we go out for and don't always find.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMust Try!We had a great meal here. The starters were all excellent, the waiter recommended 5 or 6 for a party of 6 and it was just the right amount. All of the meals were excellent (salmon special, tenderloin, chicken dish). Dessert did no disappoint either it was very good. Service was a tad slow and drinks from the bar took a little longer than expected. It didn't matter though our entire party was pleased with the restaurant.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for quick lunch w/ friend...This review is based on a weekday lunch. I feel the need to inform you all of the day/meal time since I'm sure the above information would be slightly different on, say, a Friday night dinner scene. Don't get me wrong, I still think the food would be fantastic, but the noise level might be louder, and the bar (which looked impressive on sight) might be vibrant and busy, etc. Either way, Mango had great ambiance, great food, and *GREAT SERVICE* -- and while this was my first visit, I enjoyed it enough to automatically make it one of my "go-to" places, especially for business meals. The highlight for me (besides the Saltado De Langostinos - yum!) was the desert: Pionono, I believe it's called. Scrumptious. Highly recommend!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAccommodating and deliciousStopped in for lunch while at a conference and asked the waitress if there were any vegan options. After going back to check with the chef, the she recommended a salad or the saltado de champignones. I love mushrooms and went with the dish over pasta. While waiting, I munched on the delectable banana chips and cilantro dip, so yummy! My food came out very quickly and was so fresh, so tasty and vegan! I was pleasantly surprised and could not stop raving about it to my half Peruvian husband back home because I usually cannot eat Peruvian food. Everything was wonderful, my favorite restaurant in St. Louis!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and low pricesTwo groups of international educators ate at Mango for lunch on 30 May 2013. The staff were very friendly and the food absolutely delicious. The menu items were unique and very reasonably priced. Members of the group from outside Missouri (coast to coast) were amazed at the quality at those prices. The only negative was that our waiter for one of the two groups of seven, though very friendly and helpful, got our orders somewhat confused and then half of our bills wrong (forgetting to add our beverages and that we needed itemized lists for our universities). Overall, though, a wonderful experience.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinnerFood was very good and decent priced. Starters were very good, but expensive. A bit loud, but a very nice dining room. Service was outstanding and the best we've had in a long time. William was a great waiter!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible Ceviche. If youIncredible Ceviche. If you like things spicy make sure to ask for the rocoto sauce.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic and DeliciousI've spent time in Peru and wasn't sure if it would live to the Peruvian expectations, but it was great and had wonderful menu options. Would have liked to see more Peruvian beers on tap.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Dining ExperienceThe food was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the drink menu as well as the food menu. We were a bit undecided and he definitely steered us in the right direction. Definitely try the "Crackberry" cocktail and save room for desert. I was skeptical to order the chocolate cake--they are often to dry. The chocolate cake was moist and utterly decadent.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMperuvian groove-ianPatio dining at Mango was a good downtown experience. The table had plantain chips with a green dip that had just the right amount of kick for the thinly sliced chips. The waitress had a bit of trouble bringing the side of bread (add'l $3 chg for what turned out to be plain jane french bread), as the soup (excellent aquadito de pollo, a small portion served in an unnecessarily gigantic bowl) and shrimp (good angostinos al ajo) orders were eaten before it arrived, and then compounded that lack of attention by bringing frozen pats of foil covered butter long after the bread had cooled. The entrees of beef stew and lomo saltado were nicely spiced peruvian style with tender beef and succulent sauce. Dessert was ok. Lime cocktail great.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food and Good VibesPromptly seated. Water for the table immediately. Server was helpful and quick to deliver. Food and drinks were worth every penny.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSo good...The food was delicious, the service almost too much. I don't like it when a plate gets taken away the minute I eat the last bite. But other than that we had a wonderful evening.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation dinnerI came here with my boyfriend after graduation and had a wonderful experience. When we arrived, our table was covered in blue curled ribbons for my graduation from SLU. There was also a personalized menu that said congratulations. Service was incredible, at one point there were 4 attentive servers at our table side. The food was incredible, and so was the sangria. I would definitely come back here again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic and fresh. The waitstaffAuthentic and fresh. The waitstaff was very attentive without being overwhelming. Fried plantains and salsa verde wisked to the table came as a pleasant surprise and gave us something to munch on while we made our dinner selections. Great experience.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMChange of PaceMango Peruvian reminds me of the neighborhood restaurants in New York City. They have a great menu (food and liquor) and a friendly staff. Their location, in downtown St. Louis, is easily accessible by car or public transportation.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ExperienceI recently ate at Mango to celebrate my boyfriend's med school graduation. The staff were extremely accommodating. They even decorated the table with confetti in my boyfriend's school colors, which made the meal extra special. Most of our party members had never tried Peruvian cuisine, but our waitress walked us through the menu and gave great suggestions. Even the picky eaters in my family found something that they loved.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall Plates are a Great Value! Was in St. Louis with a friend for a conference, had never been to the city, Mango looked exciting. All dishes looked appetizing, but decided on 5 small plates, to try more things. The avacado in the palta rellena was perfectly ripe, looked like it was served with purple corn. Masa in the tamal was moist and delicious, no dry. Six shrimp in the langostinos al ajo were a nice size, and shaved garlic added a kick. Wasn't sure about the raisins in the emanadas, but the mix of sweet and savory were delightful. The pascualina was the Peruvian answer to Greek spanakopita. Loved it! Pitcher of sangria was large, and the flan was a light way to end the meal. Felt is was a great value for quality food! Would definitely return if in St. Louis!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatWent for Mother's Day with some relatives and easily accommodated 9 people. Great food decent service, tad slow but that's expected with 9 people. Over all, great5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, food andExcellent service, food and ambience. Nice to find such a place near my wife's downtown office, when she did not know of it!
Menu is outstanding and price is appropriate.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!I went there on Mother's Day with a group of girlfriends. They had complimentary Mango bellinis for moms. Our food was prompt and wonderfully presented. Portion size is generous and our service was great!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Peruvian FoodFirst time I had ever had food from Peru and was impressed with the quality and flavor. We will be back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMr. ArmoVery nice place, food was great, could have used a little bit more on the portions for the price but over all wouldn't have picked another place better for Mothers Day. Will be back for sure!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe all loved Mango PeruvianWe took a group of six to Mango Peruvian for Mother's Day dinner, and our first time experience there was outstanding. They were very accommodating as our reservation group size fluctuated ahead of time. Once there, everyone was extremely friendly and attentive, the mothers all received a complimentary drink, which all thought was delicious, and everyone raved about their food and the service. Prices are very reasonable indeed. The building in which it is located is somewhat "industrial", but the restaurant is very inviting, and the high ceiling helps keep noise down, such that conversation was quite easy. Definitely on our list for a return visit.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA surprise gourmet meal!We were in St. Louis and chose Mango based on Open Table and St. L magazine reviews. We know nothing at all about Peruvian food, but decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful meal for the four of us. Our server couldn't have been more helpful explaining the dishes, and he did so without being condescending. Aji sauce with fried plantain chips was a refreshing amuse bouche. Everything we ordered was delicious: Anticuchos (skewers), langostinos, empanadas, an avocado salad, and several of the specials with names we can't recall. I had the best ceviche I've ever tasted.
The ambiance was more on the casual side rather than the romantic.
If I lived in St. Louis this would definitely be on my list of restaurants to go to fairly often.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was amazing, as usualI brought out of town guests here this past Saturday, and they loved it. The salmon special was particularly wonderful - and the Aji de Gallina was very tasty as always. Four of us split a pitcher of the sangria - 2 glasses each - which worked out well.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good serviceVery enjoyable! Food was delicious, recommend this place.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been meaning to tryWe have been meaning to try Mango for a few years now and have finally made it there. So happy that we did. It was terrific. The service was wonderful from the Bartender to the waitstaff. Thier bar is big enough that you can still have a pre-dinner drink without being edged out by those diners that insist on eating at the bar. The Food was awesome. We had a great time and will definitely be back.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience!Food and service were great! They went above and beyond to make my fiancés birthday dinner spectacular! Couldn't have had better service than what Wendy gave us. Eager to return and try more dishes.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest mussels everI often order mussels in a restaurant. These PEI mussels were pretty much the best I have ever eaten--plump and perfectly prepared. The ceviche mixto, with halibut, scallops, shrimp and mussels, was a dish that one does not often find. It was delicious. Overall, a wonderful post-theatre dining experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!!!My wife and I loved this place! Everything was great from the plantain chip and green dip (sorry can't remember the name, but I wanted to eat it with a spoon) to the small plates to the salad, main course and delicious dessert. Oh, and the bottle of Malbec was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I wish I new the names to everything to do them better justice. All I can say is everything we had was authentic Peruvian deliciousness and we can't wait to go back. Our waitress Wendy was great! She was very friendly, knowledgeable and really helped us out with our decisions.
Thank you, Mango for making our night special.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMStarted off with a bottleStarted off with a bottle of the peruvian red wine and Ceviche de pescado. The ambiance is perfect, we had a fantastic waiter(unable to recall his name). There was a group of about 15 young ladies on the other side of the restaurant(probably bachelorette party) which was noisy/energetic in burst.
For the main course, we had a SALTADO DE LANGOSTINOS , and AJI DE GALLINA which were delicious; ended the night with TORTA DE CHOCOLATE- can never go wrong with chocolate.
Will definitely be referring my friends to visit this place when in town!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAvoid aji de gallinaThe appetizers and the drinks (especially the Sangria) are excellent. They make really great dishes with red meat and seafood. However, I tried the shredded chicken this time, as it was featured in Sauce magazine. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a bad choice; the dish was very bland, devoid of any flavor the sauce was supposed to bring. When I communicated this to our waiter, he said another table had also sent that dish back that very night. I skipped directly to dessert. The flan was a little disappointing, but pionono is a quite nice, warm little dessert.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Mango! We are onlyWe love Mango! We are only in St. Louis one week every year and we make it a point to dine at this restaurant. The food, drinks, and waitstaff are excellent!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AM"Any Occasion ~ Special or Not"I would certainly return for any occasion (special or not). Food was delicious and creative. Adult beverage required "another." Each of our table of eight ordered something different including dessert. From wines to speciality drinks to aperatifs. My particular dessert was mango sorbet with organce vess soda (delicious and refreshing).4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWorld-Class Peruvian CuisineWe had a wonderful experience here on our last visit. Mango has stepped up the quality of its food noticeably. We were running late and called to let them know and the staff handled the adjustment very well. We're so happy to have world-class Peruvian cuisine in St. Louis and plan to come back often.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderfully unique meal awaitsI’m not a connoisseur of Peruvian food, but this is a wonderfully tasteful blend of Peruvian spices and cooking techniques, and innovative recipes. We were skillfully advised by our knowledgeable waiter on what dishes to get, and ordered an additional entreé knowing we would be taking food back with us. They have the menu arranged by ‘small’ and ‘large’ plates, which facilitates sampling several appetizer or tapas styled dishes instead of an entreé. There are also specialty drinks and their take on sangria is excellent, the best I’ve ever experienced. The food is truly unique and for anyone who is even just a bit adventurous, this place should not be missed. It's worth a special trip. This is the second time we've been4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very impressed withWe were very impressed with Mango! The server was very educated about the food and drink options and very friendly when we had questions. The food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect! I highly recommend this restaurant.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentFantastic dining experience! Had a nice dinner before going to the symphony. Terrific food, excellent wine, exceptional waitstaff. Wendy was an excellent waitress. Would highly recommend this place.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful experience! We were welcomed with warmth and treated with the utmost courtesy during our recent visit to Mango Peruvian Restaurant.
We planned our dinner at Mango as our 25th anniversary celebration for just the two of us. We were served complimentary champagne which topped off the evening!
The food was fabulous! Our compliments to the Chef in a superb mix of tongue tantalizing tastes.
In our reservation, we asked for special accommodations related to noise reduction and it was granted. We were seated at table in the corner, which was absolutely perfect.
We were so looking forward to our dinner at Mango and we were not disappointed!
Thank You all!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and food.Excellent service and food. Timing was perfect as we ordered a couple dishes for appetizers. The food was delicious and full of flavor. Our server was knowledgeable and patient with our questions. I would recommend Mango to anyone, especially those looking for something a little different.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMmy wife and I had a greatmy wife and I had a great date lunch! I highly recommend!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visitThis was our second visit on our second annual visit to St Louis. This time we brought the kids to introduce them to some really neat foods that are hard to find in the Midwest. Once again, the food was excellent and the staff were outstanding.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful evening. We had a wonderful evening. We were celebrating birthdays - the server and staff made it special with table decorations, personalized menus and special desserts. The food was delicious- can't wait to return.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this small & cozyWe love this small & cozy place. We ABSOLUTELY would return again & again! We had been here before & really enjoyed it. I booked a late night table to celebrate our anniversary after a show. When we arrived, we were seated at our table that had been thoughtfully prepared with a heart made of ribbon & a personalized menu congratulating us. Nice touch! As we reviewed the menu, our waitress (Kelsie = AWESOME!) treated us to a glass of champagne. Very nice. My wife ordered a specialty drink with cilantro & I a glass of sangria; both very good. I had one of the specials, pan seared scallops (YUM); my wife had the Pescado a la Chorrillana (Sautéed tilapia) which was FABULOUS! Hearty fish, rockin' flavor! This place & menu are not 2 be missed!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent cuisine. Imaginative.Excellent cuisine. Imaginative. Fresh, best quality ingredients. Don't miss the shredded chicken and the must- have sponge cake desert roll.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSo good we went twice on our tripWe were in town for a tournament and discovered Mango. They offered a pre-theater meal for $20 that was a steal. It included a cup of excellent soup (or a salad), a choice of 4 entrees (get the tilapia), and a dessert. The fresh mango sorbet is outstanding. They also have a number of nice wines by the glass that are very reasonably priced. Service was a little slow on our second visit, but certainly not an issue. I highly recommend Mango.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty meal just off WashingtonAnother good meal. I have been three times this week, and each time I am pleased. Fresh ingredients prepared carefully lead to a very good dining experience.
Servers seem knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Clearly earns four stars of five.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this place! Only reasonLoved this place! Only reason I rated the noise moderate was because it was St. Patrick's Day weekend and there were people who came into the bar area later in the night and were pretty loud. We were seated fairly close to the bar however and I'm sure people seated farther away were not bothered by it.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
