An Italian Restaurant set in an 1873 lumber baron home. Four dining rooms including a four season porch overlooking the lawn. Patio seating is also available. Fireplaces in three rooms as well as a lounge with live piano jazz nightly.

  • "Try to build your own Bruschetta with a scoop of humus, a scoop of olive paste and cut in half grape tomatoes on a GFS cracker... You have to be kidding me? No, I'm not... ($8.00) IF you think a "Italian" restaurant has a chef that has an idea of food authenticy besides opening a labeled bag or can and through everything on a plate - Think again!!! My "24 hour slow cooked lamp shank" was hot and cold at the same time (reheated in a microwave???) and drenched in gravy (gravy was hot)... The service was great and the waitress did everything she could to make it a dining experience - BUT she's not in charge of the food quality,,, To be fair; I've eaten here before and the food was good and authentic (Risotto & Pasta dishes)..."

We thoroughly enjoyed the live accordion player in the background. It was a the perfect environment for a relaxed-paced Sunday evening meal."

  • "I went for dinner with my boyfriend last night. He lives in England and was visiting and we wanted to do a belated valentine's date. We ended up getting the best table in the restaurant (by the fireplace) and it was a very intimate, lovely place. Also the food was absolutely fantastic. On top of that, our server was great. He never kept us waiting but he wasn't hovering either. I'm glad we decided to go there!!"

  • "The food was very good. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had questions about the menu, which were answered. We were a party of 4, and had the family style dinner option. Portions were perfect! Wine list was great. We asked for a history of the building and the staff ran a copy off their computer for us."

  • "were here 8 years ago and had a bad experience. The chairs were in bad condition, the service lousy and the food horrible -- -- we just were not interested in going back. However, Friday evening we decided to get it a chance since we heard that the manager was now someone we thought did a good job at one of the Gilmore Group's other restaurants that we used to love (Thornapple Daily Grill.) We are so glad we did! The chair issue had been taken care of (different chairs than when we were there a few years ago). The waiter was awesome, and the food great. As we were leaving, we noticed music was played in the bar area so we'll definitely come back to catch that too. (All Italian restaurants should offer live music.) Great ambiance!"

  • "Our first trip to Mangiamos was very good to excellent, We were looking for something special and the food, 1800"s house setting, window seating fulfilled our expectations. It was a very busy symphony and laughfest night so valet parking was required, but that went well, just extra cost. Menu items from pizza and burgers to nice dinners, good wine. We would go back."

  • "Mangiamo's wonderful old mansion is a great settig for this restaurant. The food is creative and good quality, and the service is prompt and friendly. The word "gourmet" is overused and probably should not be use for this restaurant. The restaurant makes no pretenses of being "yuppie" or trendy, I recommend this place very highly to folks who want a very reasonably priced delightful dining experience."

  • "Mangiamo is a great place to go eat if you are looking for some place interesting to eat. It is a old Victorian house made into a restaurant which is very cool. The food however is not the best and the service is not something to be impressed with either. The two times we visited Mangiamo we had to wait to be seated for a while, wait for a while for our server to come get our drink order and wait for everything. When we went the place was not very full so you would think that it would not take long at all for the server to come help us. She also forget our salad. The food is overpriced and not the best. Overall we decided that we would not be going to Mangiamo again. The location was awesome but everything else was just average."

We celebrated a birthday during our most recent visit and it was pretty busy, the server still managed to make everyone's experience the best- very personable and fun. I have recommended Mangiamo! to friends/family and everyone loves it! The tiramisu and calamari are my favorites!"

  • "My wife and I were looking to spend a night out away from chain eateries; wanting a special unique place to enjoy a romantic night out. We used the request line on open table to request a table near the fire place. When we arrived at Mangiamo! we were greeted warmly, and promptly seated at a sweet table, near the fire, in the main dining room. Very nice service, excellent food and wine pairing, and because we liked it so much, we also ordered coffee and dessert so we could hang out a little longer. I would recommend Mangiamo to anyone."

  • "Very busy night, however no excuse for the service level. The server was very nice, however brought an incorrect salad, as well as one incorrect entree. When the correct entree was brought out, it was cold. The Baked Ziti which was the other entree, was simply way overcooked and had been sitting under a heat lamp for way too long. We were going to the theatre after dinner so simply didn't have the time to wait for the food to be replaced. We doubt if we will try the restaurant again as the last time we were there it was a similar experience."

  • "Bruschetta, was excellent. Chicken Alfredo Cavatappi was OK, not great. Lemon Crusted Whitefish was very disappointing. I returned most of it. Fish was tasteless, soggy and mushy. The taste of lemon was non-existent. Veggies had no seasoning. Only the risotto was quite tasty. The words "crusted" and "lemon" one would expect a 'crust' & 'lemon' flavor throughout. The concept is excellent. It needs to re-worked in its execution and presentation. Bread or rolls were not included with dinners. Seriously?"

  • "Our son, a college student, wanted lamb for his birthday dinner, an annual request from him. Because we are not from Grand Rapids, I had to rely on online reviews and web versions of the menu. We were not disappointed. He said it was among the best lamb shank he's enjoyed. Beautiful old home to dine in. We would love to tour it some day."

  • "Our group of 4 was celebrating a member's birthday. 2 of us had eaten here before the other 2 had their first experience.The 2 prior attendees thought they had chosen a nice quiet corner. Unfortunately a group of 20 piled in after we were seated and they were very loud. Great food, great service, very loud. Our server was excellent."

  • "I always have a good to great experience at Mangiamo! The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive (but not hovering). I like the menu very much as it always has many options for many kinds of eaters, and things I recognize and enjoy. I get very tired of eating out in this neighborhood and offered oddball entries at exorbitant prices. Mangiamo! has a menu I like and the restaurant is beautiful, warm and inviting. Our group of four had a very nice evening."

  • "The food was really good. They brought 1 small loaf of hot bread to the table which was delicious. I just wish the portions were larger so that there was something to bring home (or to fill you). I ordered the butternut squash ravioli. It was good, but there were 4. Yes 4 ravioli. They were on the large size but not huge. I could have easily eaten 10 of them and not felt stuffed. Lamb was good, a tiny bit tough, the sea bass with sage risotto was tender and the risotto was really tasty. (2 of us ordered 3 meals to split between us and we easily cleaned our plates plus the bread) We'll be back though, the food was that good. The mansion the restaurant was set in is really beautiful and unexpected."

  • "We like Mangiamo because it offers a menu fit for all tastes and budgets. From pizza, sandwiches, fine steaks and seafood they do a good job with all. We decided on Mangiamo's to entertain some friends. We knew the menu would work, both price and selection, plus they take reservations. The restaurant is just beautiful with tall ceilings, fireplaces and a good amount of space between tables. As for the service, our server, Victoria was great! Her knowledge of the menu, wine, and attitude was 5 star. As for timing I've never been serviced better. We never needed to ask for anything, she "suggested" things, never felt like I was being "sold" extras. I have managed restaurants for over 25 years - Victoria was one of the best I have ever seen."

  • "We have eaten here on numerous occasions and thought we would take some friends here for New Years Eve dinner. We were very disappointed with the food. One guest left most of his entree on the plate while two others thought the pasta dish they ordered was dry and tasteless. However, the poor food quality was somewhat offset by the ambiance of the place."

  • "The ambience was great - the food was not. We were expecting top notch food, but it was less than mediocre. The Alfredo chicken had NO taste (I could do better out of jar!). One of our party ordered Family style, but received no garlic breadsticks at all... we thought the salad also was unlimited, but never offered. The Chicken Parm was SMALL... with no sides as listed on your website (garlic potatoes and broccoli). Nothing. For the classy place that Mangiamo is... the food was food-court or less quality. We were hoping to take a large party here for our 50th anniversary, but glad we tried it out first.... that is not happening. We were absolutely shocked at the quality and taste of the items we ordered. Very disappointing indeed."

  • "We were celebrating birthdays Sat. eve. It was our first time eating there. We moved to the east side of GR almost 2 years ago. We have seen Mangiamo's several times, but thought that it may be to extravagant for us. But to our surprise, it was very elegant, but not over the top for dress code or prices. They are right on! The service was great! The food was excellent! My husband and I plan to make a reservation more often. Thank you for such a memorable evening."
