  • Private Party Facilities: Mandolin offers a refined, intimate private dining experience for parties ranging from 10-18 people for lunch and dinner. We have a secluded dining room that is equipped with a 46" LCD television for presentations and slide shows. We offer special prixe fixe menus for private parties, as well as passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktail hours. Please allow at least three weeks notice to reserve our private dining room. We require a credit card to reserve this room and to book parties of 10 and more, and we charge a fee for cancellations made less than 24 hours before a reservation. We look forward to helping you celebrate your company parties, birthdays, rehearsal diners, and graduations.

  • Parking Details: We have ample parking in multiple locations as well as Valet Service on Friday and Saturday nights. We have street parking in front of the restaurant on Fairview Rd. We have a parking lot beside the Red Dragon. We also have use of the parking lot behind State Farm and Hungry Howie"s with its entrance on Oberlin Rd. Finally, after 5:00 PM and all day on the weekends, we offer parking at the offices, located on the opposite side of the Oberlin-Fariview intersection from the Mandolin.

Mandolin is a breath of fresh air to the Raleigh dining scene, combining a casual atmosphere with fresh, contemporary, Southern fare. Mandolin uses the highest quality local ingredients to create seasonal menus that resonate with foodies and casual diners, alike. We share our food in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that replaces the stuffiness of fine-dining with Southern charm. The menu and ambiance reflect the character of Raleigh itself- a blend of rustic and refined, contemporary and traditional, rural and metropolitan. Mandolin, like the City of Oaks, is Southern at its roots, but draws influences from around the world. We love our new home in Hayes Barton, just a stone's throw from Five Points, on the corner of Oberlin and Fairview. Continued

  • "This was, hands-down, the most enjoyable dining experience that I've ever had in Raleigh. Although Raleigh has standout restaurants (Second Empire, Angus Barn, 18 Seaboard, etc.), the dining scene in the Triangle is at its best with cozy little gems, that are casual and friendly, completely unpretentious, and that focus on really stellar food...a segment more populated by restaurants in Durham and Chapel Hill, I think. Mandolin is just such a place, and I think it rivals spots in Durham (Watts Grocery, Nana's) and Chapel Hill (Lantern, Crook's) that have been creating the neighborhood gem experience for many years. Highly recommend the pork chop, sea bass (in lieu of triggerfish) and the beet fettucine. Simply delish!"

  • "A very friendly, yet professional staff, and the food was excellent! We were in on a Wednesday evening, and there was good crowd. There appeared to be a larger group in a room booked for that purpose, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our waitress was very helpful and we had a great dialog with her throughout the evening. Wish we had discovered this place sooner!"

  • "We booked an early reservation so that we could meet friends for a movie at Rialto. Our server made sure that we had our check in time to make the 7pm movie start. We enjoyed everything about this experience: the friendly service, the good food, and the ambiance. Next time we come, we'll sit on the livelier side of the restaurant, or in the bar area. We will definitely be back, if only to try more cocktails and bar food!"

  • "Mandolin is a charming establishment with beautiful decor, outstanding ambiance, an extremely cordial hostess, friendly and attentive service, and a noise level (on a week night) conducive to easy conversation. The evening started well with a delicious soup (lemon grass and carrot) and an imaginatively created salad. Unfortunately, our entrees (chicken & dumplings and chicken & waffles) did not live up to the standards set by the rest of the restaurant, as they were simply average fare. We could not find any other entrees that interested us on the rather limited menu. Although delicious, their signature cocktails were expensive. Mandolin's policy of using local farmers to supply ingredients is admirable, but their menu needs a make-over."

  • "We ate here for brunch this past Sunday. While the food overall was tasty, my skillet dish has undercooked eggs, and soggy bacon. Others ate the table has better food experiences, but no one was impressed with the potatoes. We had a 10:30 reservation, got seated almost immediately and have our order. The problem was that our food then took 45 minutes to get to our table. Every other table that sat down with us had already left. No apologies from the restaurant. So, I guess they thought it was fine. As a result, I will not be going back."

My companion and I spent a long time trying to figure out what we didn't want on the menu and that was before we heard the specials. The deal was sealed when a neighboring table was served! Great wine and cocktails, excellent service, comfortable setting and quite possibly the best service in Raleigh. Can't wait to go again."

  • "Such a charming place, we had to wait an extra 30 mins for our table, but we had a few drinks at the bar and the service was very accommodating. They ran out of the cheapest most delicious drink on the cocktail menu, but subbed in a different one for the lower price. The food came out hot and delicious, my (chicken and dumplings) vegetables were a little under cooked for my preference, but still very tasty. The appetizers were out of this world, and the menu was very southern modern. It didn't feel like we were in raleigh! We celebrated my bf birthday, and they checked my open table notes of providing a candle to blow out without me having to mention it to them.. Also they comped the birthday dessert. Great find!!"

  • "We have been here twice. The first time was excellent, an absolutely perfect dinner. We returned about 6 weeks later and it was a totally different experience. A piece of advice: never, ever order the carrot cake. My husband said is was the worst dessert he had ever had, and he'll typically eat anything."

The carrot cake is just strange, the Down East Boil was over powered by bell peppers. If you like interesting complicated food than this place will be very appealing to you, If you want simple more traditional food Mandolins comes off as trying too hard to be special."

  • "My girlfriend and I had brunch here last weekend, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We were greeted very warmly by the host, and our server was engaging and friendly. Our drinks never fell below halfway (coffee and waters). The food was very good but not the best I've had in Raleigh; specifically the grits were rather bland. On the other hand the pork gravy was possibly the best gravy I've ever tasted. It came as a side for the biscuits, but I ended up eating it straight out of the bowl by itself. Unbelievably good! Again, we had a great time and were impressed by the atmosphere and service. Will definitely give lunch or dinner a try!"

  • "The interior is aesthetically pleasing in a modern design. Comfortable. The menu is thoughtful and interesting. There are a lot of dishes that are "ooh, that's a little different." The food was very good, but not "knock your socks off great." It was very nice that all the food is locally sourced. The prices were a little high, but I don't mind paying a little more for an local place that really seems to care about where the food comes from and what goes on the plate. Overall, its something different and a good place to go once in a while, but not frequently."

Took so long for waitress to come back to get my drink order I was 30 seconds away from getting up and going to the bar. Food was not as good as the reviews. In sum, 2 star food with 2 star truck stop service saved by nice ambience = 3 star overall"

We wanted a salad with our main entree, and there were only two to choose from (our server said one is huge and one is small). The wait staff was fair. She was not very attentive to returning with bread and was not happy at all that we didn't order a dessert. The beverage servers were great, though. The noise level in the restaurant was a bit high for a quiet dinner."

  • "I had heard wonderful things about Mandolin and I finally had the opportunity to dine their for lunch on Sunday (brunch menu). We had made reservations but arrived a little early. They were able to seat us early but we did not get "attention" from a waiter/waitress for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the waitress got my order wrong but I wasn't going to send it back. The omelet was delicious but wasn't what I had been preparing myself to devour. My husband's chicken and mac 'n cheese was amazing - best bite of the meal. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive (minus the ordering mistake) and I would go back in a heartbeat. I think the Sunday after-church crowd threw them for a loop."

  • "We had high hopes for Mandolin. The menu had a lot of promise. Maybe we didn't order the right things? Let's start with the good. The gnocchi entree was heavenly! I could eat it ALL DAY! The Winter Twinkie we had for dessert was also unique and very well executed! Sweet and Savory - our favorite! My husband ordered the chicken and dumplings for his entree. It was just so-so. I think the chef that night was particularly heavy handed with thyme and not much else. The beef tartare appetizer had great flavor and was tender, but the beef was cubed (not chopped). It wasn't "fluffy" as I expect tartare to be. The panzanella salad was missing the advertised beets, and the bread component was a few tasteless croutons instead of the star."

  • "The food was wonderful. Both of our entrees were cooked to perfection and the appetizers were tastefully unique. The owners have also done an excellent job of capturing an elegant atmosphere while making the restaurant comfortable for just about anyone. Servers are exquisitely trained (We had Graylyn? Not sure I got her name completely right.) She was very knowledgeable about all of the food and was able to make some excellent recommendations. She clearly knew the menu and the specials by heart and was attentive without being obnoxious. Three cheers to her for really rounding out a great experience. Mandolin is a new favorite for us. Cost is a bit high, but totally worth it. Can't wait to try brunch!"
