always good. have always loved that their green beans are cooked so they taste fresh and not mushy, and make you want vegetables.

I've been going to Mandarette for years and have noticed the past few times that the service is declining. Last night 4 of us went for dinner and: 1 person had to ask for lemon for her tea 3 times; 1 tried to order a drink and asked the waiter about it and he explained every other drink except the one my friend was pointing to on the menu; I had to ask 3 times for my white rice; then we had to ask twice for the bill.

Something went wrong this time at Mandarette. New management? The food was just ok. It's usually really good. Might try again.

Scallion pancakes and pan fried green beans are the best! We also tried the chicken shu-mai tonight and liked them a lot.

Mandarette has been around for about 25 years for good reason. The food is not American-style Chinese; rather, sauces are very light yet the flavors are subtle and intense. Dishes that seemed novel when it first opened have become routine on other restaurants' menus. Amongst our favorites are onion pancakes, spicy red sauce won ton, Mongolian beef, spicy chicken with spinach, sauteed bean sprouts with scallions, orange peel chicken, lemon chicken, chicken with asparagus, sauteed asparagus with ginger, any of the seafood dishes (not on the menu, sauteed fish filet with black bean sauce is great and will be made on request), and anything featuring tofu. The service is proficient, the room pleasant, and the noise level tolerable.

  • Don't let the old looking-run

Don't let the old looking-run down facade at the front door fool you - it's actually pretty nice inside. Clean and good looking dining area with plenty of seating. But of course, it comes down to the food - it's pretty good Chinese food. The salt and pepper calamari is a winner. And so is the Kung Pao shrimp. Service was pretty fast too and the servers were attentive. If you don't want to pay for street parking, there's a small parking lot in the alley behind the restaurant.
