  • "Stumbled across this jewel while looking for somewhere to eat while working on a job in Sonoma. The food was great then, so the other night I remembered it when we were looking for a destination for an evening motorcycle ride and dinner. The food was even better than I remembered."

  • "Tucked in a small strip mall just blocks off the Historic Sonoma Plaza this little gem has fabulous Italian food. It never disappoints. They have a great selection of Italian wines to pair with their spectacular specials. Some times the service can be slow and the ambiance leaves a little to be desired but all is well worth the meals that come out of their tiny little kitchen."

  • "Small family run Local Italian restaurant. The dining areas were cramped but clean and fairly functional. The place was packed but the service was timely. Wait staff seemed harried but they did do a great job of keeping up. The food was a bit above average. Had a great special appetizer - lamb ragout on a polenta cake- it was great! Unfortunately they ran out of the main course I ordered but the servers alternate suggestion was quite good. My wife had the galant - her favorite dish - and she enjoyed it. The desert was underwhelming. We ordered Tartufo what we got was something kinda sorta like Tartufo. The wine list was very limited - sort of odd for a Sonoma restaurant! All in all, the dinner was good and we would go back."

  • "It was our second time there and my husband and I highly recommend it. On our 2nd dining experience, we brought another couple, one of my oldest and best friends who's mom and dad are from "The Old Country, Italy" she and her date LOVED the food, wine and friendly atmosphere as much as we did. Thanks for yet another memorable experience."

  • "If you love great food with amazing flavor, then you have to go to Mama Tanino's! I'm a local and a food lover, and this place is better than the other pretentious, overpriced wine country joints. Try the Bucattini Amatriciana & Fettuccine Contadina. The Carbonara is amazing and authentic. If they are serving the Polenta special with Mushroom, it is incredible. The Chef / Owner, Gaetano, was born in Sicily and trained in Bellagio, Italy. This is REAL Italian food. And his wife, Kim, is super warm and friendly. So, if you want to be a snob and go to some overpriced place with no personality, that's your choice. But if you love great food, with great service and warm hospitality, then you can't beat Mama Tanino's!"

  • "The chef, Gaetano, excelled at the menu for Restaurant Week in Sonoma Valley! The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth good and the lettuce/hazelnut salad superb."

  • "Although I have lived in Sonoma for some time, this was my first visit to this restaurant and it was because of Sonoma County Restaurant Week that I decided to try it. It was marvelous - each course was excellent. And as I was a single diner, it was a pleasure to have such attentive service (not always the case when I dine alone!). I will definitely return to this gem."

  • "Chef is an exceptional performer, meals are always spot on and delicious. Only negative is that he does it all himself and service bogs down with a big crowd. Go thru the week to avoid the crowd (testament to the fine quality at fair prices). Love everything especially the veal, eggplant and scallops."

  • "Always a pleasure to eat at Mama Tanino's. My pasta was fabulous! My friend enjoyed her veal parmesan, and raved to her family how good it was. The calamari appetizer is out of this world! Our salads were exceptional! Pleasant evening, good wine, good food, good service, friendly and warm experience!!!"

  • "We came back for another meal, after having a not great experience 6 months ago. Our meal was so much better this time, all items were excellent. We dined here as part of Sonoma County restaurant week. The only glitch was having to wait about 15 min even though we had a reservation. However we did have a nice table so worth the wait"

  • "It was a wonderful place. The chef and the hostess were very friendly. Food was amazing. Server was fabulous. The whole dinner evening was wonderful."

  • "Went here for a special occasion dinner with my family. We each ordered completely different meals, and we were all thrilled! I ordered the eggplant parmesan, because I'd seen great reviews online, and it did not disappoint! I can't wait to eat my leftovers again! The salads, desserts, and house red wine were delicious as well. The owners are so friendly, too!"

  • "Only a 5 minute drive from home, this is a small treasure of a place. Food has always been outstanding, service always very good. A little pricy but worth it for a very pleasurable night out. The husband and wife team who run this place clearly are on top of their game and keep the quality of Mama Tannino's to the top level. Go once and you'll have to go back again and again."

  • "We would eat here every night if we could! The food is outstanding--every dish we have ever ordered has been superb! It is well worth searching out this restaurant, located in a small shopping center blocks from Sonoma's main plaza. The food is genuinely Italian and has not been "Americanized" ... The potatoes and veggies that accompany most every main dish are beautifully prepared, especially the green beans! And save room for dessert. The Italian cake, whose name escapes me right now, is truly to-die-for!!!"

  • "Try to avoid the table in the back room which is next to the entrance to the restrooms. Despite the seating being very closely packed together, the only thing which kept it from being a very enjoyable evening was the traffic in and out of the restroom. This can be at the least distracting and at the worst annoying."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We have been coming here since they opened and have never been disappointed . The veal pram is wonderful and the bucatini with meat sauce can't be beat, This is truly a local gem!"

  • "This place is a gem located on a shopping mall. Outstanding authentic Italian food. While the menu is not extensive, the night we dined there were many exciting and creative specials offered. My wife and I both had the Crab Risotto and it was outstanding. Very rich and flavorful. My brother-in-law had the lamb shank and it was also outstanding. The wine list offers a nice variety at each price point and our waitress helped guided us to a good choice. Seating is limited so make a reservation to ensure you get the opportunity to enjoy at evening at Mama Tanino's. And save room for the dessert!!"

  • "Very simply, the food here is fantastic. The service matches the food. When you get each course of your meal, it tastes as if it has been prepared with love in an Italian mother's kitchen, now run by her son. We started our meal with polenta with truffle oil and mushrooms. It was light, airy, and INCREDIBLE! I don't think I have ever had polenta that was this amazing, even IN Italy. For dinner I had the fettucini contadina, and it was very fresh and delicious. My wife had chicken marsala, which was also fresh and delicious. This restaurant is not well know, but it should be. The food is spectacular and the owners are wonderful. The overall experience is excellent and the prices are reasonable. A great find. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Mamma Tanino's is always good. Whenever we want good, friendly service (when don't you), good home cooking at a reasonable price, good environment. Kim and her husband do a great job."

  • "Very small but food is excellent! No bar just wine! Noise is "energetic" because of size, your close to everyone!!!"

  • "We have eaten here many times. When it is possible we take visitors there. The chef and his wife are very nice. Love this place."

  • "I picked this b/c it was top rated in Open Table and also similarly rated in other services. The prices were quite reasonable. Food was great, portions were generous. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Pancetta was overflowing. Service was OK. The restaurant is quite small and cramped. We had a good table but there are a lot that are in bad spots, like the one near the front entrance. Since it's so small and packed with people, it is also quite noisy and distracting b/c you're so close to the conversations next to you."

  • "Tucked away in a nondescript shopping center, Mama Tanino's is a hidden gem fit for any foodie that enjoys flavorful fare with home cooked appeal. The setting is simple, but the food is anything but. If you're looking for a delicious meal with extraordinary specials, this is the place. Highly recommended!"

  • "Outstanding food (Caesar salad, a veggie pasta, and Katarina's Vitellina) . Prodigious quantities. Regrettably, no room for dessert. If you are in the Sonoma area, GO THERE!"

  • "we've come here for the last three years for my man's birthday, and they remember us every time. They are sweet, personable and the food gets better every time we come. We shared the caesar, the pear salad, the ravioli special and the veal parmesan, and they were all so yummy. The tiramisu for dessert was melt in your mouth awesome too. Thank you MT for always making us feel special"

  • "We visit this restaurant every Thanksgiving holiday. It is a family owned and operated restaurant. The chef is the husband and the wife runs the front. They are so warm and welcoming that you feel immediately like part of the family. Every year they go to Italy for new recipes and ideas. They are in the process of setting arrangements for cooking schools in Tuscany and Umbria. Hopefully by spring, we will be signing up. If you are in the town of Sonoma or near by you need to try Mamma Tanino's"

  • "Continues to deliver very good food, unfortunately the overall experience is only fair. A friendly neighborhood restaurant that lacks any refinement of service. Do try it for the food, but know the downside."

  • "We heard about this place from 2 locals and love Italian food. We found the atmosphere Pretty average, the service very good and the food excellent. I had veal scallopini and my husband Had the special, sea bass. They were equally delicious."

  • "We went on a busy Saturday. The servers were quite knowledgeable and friendly, but perhaps due to the volume of customers a bit slow to refill glasses or ask if we wanted more bread when the kitchen took a while to produce our plates. Portions are on the small size for the price, but everything we had was well executed."
