Mamma MariaI just loved our waitperson.I just loved our waitperson. He was knowledgeable about the menu, the wine list and had personality to spare.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Food and ServiceI've been to Mamma Maria several times. On this occasion it was a family celebration of my daughter's graduation. The location in the North End is charming, the restaurant is elegant and well appointed. Try to sit in the dining room with the large window overlooking the square and the Paul Revere House. The cuisine was enjoyed by the whole party who ranged in age from 17 to 87. We had appetiozers, main courses of pasta and seafood and delightful desserts. I loved my entree of Tuscan rabbit pasta accompanied by a wonderful Montepulciano. It brought me right back to the Tuscan hills. The wait staff were friendly and attentive without hovering. The room was quiet enough for conversation but not so quiet that it felt hushed. Wonderful.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent andService was excellent and unlike some restaurants which make you wait a long time between courses Mama Maria's is quite quick. The food was very good. Overall great experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your average RavioliThe waiters were very cordial to our two eleven-year-old grandsons, making them feel special. And the food was great, right down to the sinful desserts. It was a very good finale to our Boston trip.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Italian in North BostonIf you like Italian, go here. You won't regret it.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMmmmmm!Love the place! It's like you are in Europe not in the States....it's a great dining experience: great place, great food, great service....great, great, great!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA veal chop to remember...The Fig & Proscuitto starter was light, flavorful and a great teaser for what was to come... The Veal Chop, a big veal chop, which at first had me worried due to its thickness (1 1/4 inch) was by far the most flavorful and tender veal I have had in years... Moist, with the taste of fresh herbs throughout the entire piece combined with Morels which were superb... Overall, excellent food experience in a atmosphere that my customers really enjoyed. Definitely a restaurant to put on your list if you are visiting Boston.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous from start to finish-Fabulous from start to finish- except for the maitre d -who hustled us over to a local bar to wait until our table was ready. We were a bit early- he said he would call us when it was ready- we were 15 min past out reservation and I sent a member of the group over to see if it was time- he said finally we could come back - think they need a new system - apparently it's done to all patrons as we met 3 other sets of diners in the 12 seat bar.
Once we were seated all went perfectly- fabulous wait staff- just enough attention - love the hysterically funny pepper guy with 2 small children at home!! He was a hit ! Food was off the chain- I had wonderful halibut- the osso bucco was the hit of the table!! Also figs and prosciutto was a fav6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Italian foodPerfect meal, with the complimentary bread with basil pesto, to the rabbit pappardelle. You really can't go wrong here. Only minor complaint would be no elevators to get from first to second floor. If you're a senior with joint problems, those stairs can be hellish. After the 3rd glass of wine, the apprehension of trapezing those stairs subsided.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMpleasant surpriseWe were looking for a nice place in the North End to bring a visitor from Brazil. We had an amazing dinner, great service and because we arrived before sundown, a very nice view of the charming neighborhood from our table. I would highly recommend this restaurant5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding ItalianGreat menu well executed. Authentic Italian food. Outstanding wine list includes many excellent American wines in addition to very good Italian choices. Service was attentive and friendly.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, good serviceIt was our second time at the restaurant. The food was delicious and service very good and portions just perfect. The host at the door was not very welcoming but sat us pretty quickly after we arrived.
We sat on the second floor as we requested on the reservation.
We will definitely be back5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent timeWe had very enjoyable evening and will be returning when we return again to Boston5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFavoriteThis is my favorite restaurant in Boston. The food is fabulous, the decor is beautiful, the waiters are charming and do what really good waiters are supposed to do. I've never had a meal here that I didn't absolutely love.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Of the BestHave been enjoying this restaurant for several years. It remains as good as it gets for fine dining in a beautiful setting.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMNorth End BostonTruly a North End gem! The evening was made particularly memorable by our waiter Sean. It was a perfect intro to Boston Italian dining, and it was fun to introduce our Boston friends to something special in their town.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMKeep coming backGreat food, service, and ambience. I've tried the rest in Boston, this is still the best all around Italian. The smaller rooms upstairs are cozy or great for business dinners. Downstairs is louder but festive.
The antipasti can be sublime, the veal osso buco world class, and the halibut is excellent. We bring guests from out of town because its in sight of the Paul Revere House. I also like that its off the beaten track in the North End.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent spotexcellent food with courteous, prompt service. comfortable quaint setting. highly recommend for enjoyable experience without the hustle, bustle and 'attitutde' of larger, more commerical-feeling restaurants on hanover st. as a native bostonian, frequent business traveler and long-time diner at many north end restaurants, really recommend mama maria for an authentic and enjoyable traditional north end italian dinner.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh and flavorfulWe enjoyed dinner here while visiting Boston and were very pleased with our experience. The food was fresh and delicious. The osso buco was one of the best things we have ever eaten! A little bit off of the high street of Haymarket street.. Highly recommended5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMClients Happy! We took some clients here and they were wowed (like we knew they would be). Mama Maria's has excellent food, definitely one of the best in the North End, and service that can't be beat. This is the place to go for an experience that rivals none. Thank you Mama Maria's for always providing the best and never disappointing!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday night romanceMy wife and I came here on a Sunday night before Memorial Day. We showed up quite a bit early and were still seated right away. We were given a seat by a window towards the square that had a great view of North End. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was genuine and helpful. I had the rabbit ragu which was well prepared but if you aren't a rabbit fan don't expect to have your mind changed. The meat is showcased, as it should be, but I have a hard time with rabbit, in general. My wife ordered the crab and clam pasta and loved every bite. She really enjoyed picking the pieces our of the shell. One word of warning: the portions are appropriate, which means smaller than your local grill and bar. Plan accordingly.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for GraduationHave been coming for years, and brought a group for BC Graduation. Everything was top notch. Would highly recommend.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive dinner at terrific venueWater was good, venue was beautiful, staff was very attentive......... pricing high for dinner content.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely PerfectWith all of the Italian restaurants to choose from in Boston's North End, we settled on Mamma Maria's for our big evening out on Friday night. I'm so glad we dined there! The restaurant is beautiful. The food is really delicious. My husband had the suckling pig ( WOW!!) and I had lobster pasta.( OMG) Our server, Tom, was charming. We were delighted and will certainly be back next time we visit boston.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNorth End FindGreat atmosphere and service and food was top notch. My only complaint is that it is on the expensive side. Definitely worth the price but there are more affordable Italian restaurants outside the North End with just as good food. Cinquecento comes to mind first in the South End. Many of the North End restaurants don't add up, Mamma Maria does but visitors explore Boston's other neighborhoods for just as good or even better Italian cuisine.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good, ourThe food was very good, our server was attentive without being overbearing.
It is not your average Italian restaurant that serves Chicken parmigiana, lasagna ...etc.
The only criticism is that some of the dishes are a bit pricey for the portion that they give you.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, so so for romanceI went on a date with my girlfriend. Have to say that the food was amazing, but for the price the service was good but not great and the ambience was not as romantic as I expected.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the bestMy parents were visiting from the UK two years ago and I took them and my in-laws to Mamma Maria to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Two years later we returned with them again and had the most memorable time. Mamma Maria's is a place where you want to push the boat out and indulge. From the wonderful food, to the great wine list, impeccable service, and great atmosphere, Mamma Maria's is one of those venues that will always be on our list of extra special restaurants that we return to time and again.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLocals let us inI'm convinced after almost thirty years of visiting Mamma Maria's that this is a neighborhood restaurant first, filled with North End/Bostonians first, and tourists after. Their food is really, very good, although we were a little surprised they had no specials this Saturday night. Try one of the house's specialties, their veal chop. Outstanding! And the white polenta is actually extraordinary.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and delicious menuI visit Mamma Maria's every time I'm in Boston and am never disappointed. The food is fabulous, presentation - fantastic, menu - fun and varied. My family simply loves it!!
The service is always outstanding as well.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were so impressed our firstWe were so impressed our first time, we returned for a second time on our 5 day visit to Boston!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely locationWe enjoyed our dinner quite a bit. My wife had cod with mussels and calamari, and I had the crab/clam pasta. Both were quite good, and I would gladly order them both again. The prices were reasonable, and our waiter was this nice young man from Guatemala who was very attentive without over doing it.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ExperienceAfter driving to MA from Oregon, and having Mama Maria's be recommended by a restaurant loving relative from Albany, N.Y., we decided to take a chance on a special occasion while visiting a sister in Leominster, MA. We needed a short walk from parking because of an old ankle injury to one of our members, so the valet parking worked well. Then the relaxed atmosphere, quiet and attentive service, incredible food selection, and excellent use of ingredients and presentation made our meal a perfect experience. Thank you so much for a great evening!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous! This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend of my sister's; I would recommend it to ANYONE that wants authentic Itialian. It is truly an old world experience!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly, prompt, and aboveFriendly, prompt, and above all great food. Pasta carbonara app better than we had in Italy!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best in North EndGreat wine list, lobster ravioli and chocolate torte. Daily changing menu. Close tables make it somehwat challenging at times to hold a conversation.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeExcept for a table near by that had a very loud party, the food, service, etc., where wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Treat in The North EndMamma Maria is in a quaint, small brick building in a quieter area of The North End. There are 5 small (dining) rooms with tables. We were seated on the 2nd floor in a corner near the windows. The food and service were top notch, from our Prosecco & Carpaccio beginning to the chocolate torte dessert. We had the Osso Buco & Rabbit Pappardelle for our main dishes, both of which were delicious. The prices are high, but that is expected for a fine dining experience like this. I especially liked the note on the menu asking patrons to NOT use their cellphones while in the dining room! If you want to treat yourself to something special, I'd highly recommend you try this place!!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRabbit stewThe rabbit stew is delicious, as are the lobster raviolis. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained the dishes as if he was reading a novel. I went with a group of 6, with a reservation- good wine, appropriately sized servings. Everyone enjoyed their dishes- bolognese, halibut, clam pasta.
Our reservation was for 8:30 on a Saturday night- it was a bit too quiet (a little stuffy too) for my family's liking. It picked up eventually..and we had no problem livening the place up.
The exterior of the building and location off of Hanover is very nice- sets the tone well.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Intimate SettingHad a rare opportunity to head to dinner with all five family members and took a chance on Mamma Maria. We were not disappointed!! Every dish was superb and arrived hot. Service was excellent and ambience was great. Wine list was ample. We would not hesitate to go this excellent restaurant again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Night, Special PlaceWe celebrated our daughter's College Graduation at Mamma Maria's. A quaint location in the north end of Boston. Food, service and ambiance was perfect. The meal and evening was much enjoyed!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Dinner in the North EndWe have been here before. There is a reason why we always return. Our waiter Sean was honest and awesome. Everything we ordered was great! We will be back....... as always!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are regular diners at MM,We are regular diners at MM, and although the tenderloin was way overdone they corrected it and the second one was perfect. The halibut was perfect from the start and the dessert also nice to share. Wine selection excellent.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways has been a favorite....didn'Always has been a favorite....didn't disappoint us...great food, service, wonderful restaurant.....still one of the Best in Boston"s North End !!!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCharm in the North EndThis was my second time at Mamma Maria's; the first time was more than ten years ago. It's still a wonderful restaurant with great ambience and creative (northern?) Italian dishes. This is not the place to go for an American Italian meal with lots of red sauce and cheese. This is where you spend an evening trying dishes that feature layered flavors and well-cooked vegetables, meats and fish.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was awesome, everythingFood was awesome, everything was great just that we felt a little bit rushed!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMamma Maria is one of my favoritesMamma Maria is one of my favorites in the North End. The food is always spectacular, the wine is always perfect and the service is superior. The only bad review I can give is that the noise level is distracting to what we wanted to be a romantic evening. Most visits I have sat downstairs, but this past time we were seated upstairs and placed in between 3 tables that were at least 4-6 large. It was hard to relax with so much chatter and yelling happening. So what we wanted to be a quiet, romantic evening kind of turned sour because at times we found ourselves yelling across the table to hear what each other was saying. Non the less, our waiter was charming and the food was tasty, which made up for the ambiance.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals in myOne of the best meals in my life -- it was really a continuous series of high points -- excellent service, delicious food and phenomenal wines. Truly a wonderful experience.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEach time we visit BostonEach time we visit Boston (from Philly) we try different restaurants except we always eat one night at Mamma Maria as we love it so much - the wonderful atmosphere, great menu, delicious food, and excellent service.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely outstanding foodAbsolutely outstanding food and wine worth every penny.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
