A word from Mama's Fish House
Mama's Fish House is actually a converted beach house in a coconut grove on a secluded white sand beach. Inside, hinged windows open to let in the trade winds and Polynesian artifacts and original oil paintings decorate tropical hardwood walls. The rooms are filled with spectacular flower arrangements and tapa print cloths cover the tables. Outdoor dining is equally exciting, and everyone enjoys watching the windsurfers performing offshore.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We come to Maui about every five years and without a visit to Mama's the trip wouldn't be complete. We have dined from Ritz's finest around the world to local Mom & Pop's in the sticks and nothing in our opinion can match Mama's. I read several reviews that criticized the cost of meals there, and after trying a few of the other island "upscale" restaurants we found that 1) if you are close enough to see and hear the waves the cost is a little higher. 2) If the food is obviously prepared by true chefs that know their trade then cost is a little higher. And 3) if you receive service from a professional that explains the meals and answers all questions then the cost is a little higher. And we often found Mama's isn't the most expensive."

  • "We made reservations at Mama's Fish House for dinner a few hours before we were scheduled to leave Maui and return home from vacation. Our meal exceeded our expectations in every way. We clearly saved the best 'til last."

  • "Best fish we ever had, very nice view! Good service!"

  • "From all the rave reviews this place receives I was expecting amazing food, boy was I disappointed. To sum Mama's up - it's average, over priced food in a gorgeous setting right on the beach. I ordered their signature dish which is Mahimahi stuffed with crab and lobster with a macadamia nut crust. It was dry, lacking flavour and generally very underwhelming. "

  • "Best restaurant on Maui, plain and simple. Mike the waiter was an awesome guy. Property, location, food, etc is right up there with some of the best restaurants in the world. If you are in Maui, you would be a fool to not visit Mama's!"

  • "Shared all four Ocean Fresh apps among the there of us for lunch after making a last minute reservation on a Friday afternoon. All we're yummy and of the highest quality, especially the Sashimi and the Tahitian Ceviche. Could pass on the Hawaiian Ceviche next time. View is not to be surpassed. Server, service and food quality were excellent. Stuffed Mahi Mahi , an afterthought, was a little disappointing. All in all, this is a dining experience, not just a meal. We'll be back."

  • "Loved the restaurant . By far the best food on the island . No other restaurant comes close . Too bad it's far from the hotels. GreAt ambiance, on the beach."

  • "Love this place though very high end price wise for us. This was our second time here and still enjoyed it as much. The disappointment was the salad of tomatoes/Maui onion in that few of the tomatoes were really ripe. Rest of meal was top notch which we expected. You pay for it so expectations are high!"

  • "The staff was attentive. The atmosphere gorgeous with a 1950s kind of decor. The food was fair but completely overpriced. You can get delicious equally fresh fish at the Paia fish market for 1/4 of the cost. I did not mind the price but our drinks were watery. For the type of place they try to be I expect more. It simply too large and too much of a commercial production to be worth the price they are asking. "

  • "This is the third time that we have celebrated our anniversary at Mama's and as always it was incredible! The scenery is unmatched, the service was attentive, but not obnoxious, and the food is perfect. We recommend this restaurant to all our friends that visit Maui and will definitely go there again. Thanks, Mama!"

  • "Great meal, one of the best we have had on Maui. Fish was extremely fresh and the Ahi appetizer was the best I have eaten in a long time. Highly recommend Mama's. "

  • "By far, the best food on the island! Try the Mahi-Mahi stuffed with crab and lobster meat, so good! The view is spectacular! Pricy but worth every penny! Got to go again!"

  • "We spent the day touring the road to Hana - which I would say wasn't enough. It was recommended we stop at Mama's at end of the day to watch the sunset and have a fantastic dinner. I'm so glad we did. We made the reservations two weeks ahead and, yes, had to find a spot to change our clothes and comb the hair (we had a convertible for the drive)! We'll worth it. A very relaxed atmosphere and our server recommended delicious fish for us. And we were going to share the black pearl for dessert, but had to have one each. We wee having our honeymoon dinner and we not disappointed. We also liked the fact that the fishermen were mentioned on the menu and given credit for their catch - that was pretty cool. Thanks Momma for a lovely evening. "

  • "The food is probably the best we've ever had! We've dined at the best restaurants in New York City, and Mama's Fish House is the top of our list! Very pricey, but worth it! Magnificent views! Make your reservation way in advance. When we got to the restaurant a couple before us was begging for a table for two, but they were told that their waiting list was 75 names long. A true gem! A must to dine at for one-of-a-kind dining experience. "

  • "I really wanted to love this place. I am gluten-free and called prior to make sure that this could be accommodated. My waiter appeared to be knowledgeable and claimed that he was gluten-free himself. There were few gluten-free options; our waiter specifically recommended the Ono, as it was supposedly gluten-free as is. Because of his recommendation, I chose the Ono. As it transpires, the marinade was actually not gluten free. Rather than getting the choice of selecting a different menu option, I was simply told that the marinade was left off but that I would still love my dish. When my fish came out, it was incredibly dry and flavorless. There was no question that the marinade was necessary to the dish. It was seriously disappointing. "

  • "We love to go to Mama's each time we visit Maui. This was our first time to go for lunch and we really enjoyed the view! The food as always was spectacular and I had the best Mai Tai I've ever had. I also had the best coconut cake I've ever tasted!! I always recommend Mama's when I hear that friends are visiting Maui."

  • "When we get off the plane in Kahului Maui the first place we go is to Mama's Fishhouse in Paia. The beautiful Hawaiian ambiance, the incredible view of the beach and ocean, the excellent service and outstanding food and drinks are a few of the things that make this place extra special. I've been enjoying Mama's for over 20 years with family and friends and it is always a very special experience! We used to go for dinner but now we love to go for lunch so we can really enjoy the beautiful setting on the beach! You won't be disappointed!"

  • "As soon as we get off the plane we head straight to Mama's Fish House for lunch. Fantastic locally caught fresh fish. The restaurant is open air with beautiful tropical flower arrangements throughout. The scenery is breath taking of the beach, ocean & tropical plants & palm trees. The service and the food is always outstanding!! For appetizers we tried the Kampachi Cheek crispy-fried, Grille Maui octopus & Lobster Guacamole with house made sweet potato & taro crisps. For lunch my teenage son had the pan seared Opah with Maui Onion. My husband enjoyed the Ono & I had the Mahi-mahi stuffed with lobster and crab baked in a macadamia nut crust. Awesome desserts...try "The Black Pearl" beautiful presentation and tropical drinks!"

  • "Excellent meal and service. We were seated by the ocean so out view was outstanding. Just be prepared to pay 45-50 for each meal and drinks were $18 with very little alcohol. We could of shared a meal as the food was very rich. "

  • "Although it's an expensive lunch, it's always worth it. We stay at Napili and make a point of making the drive anytime we are on Maui. One of my favorite places. You just can't beat the entire package and friends we take there for the first time, are always impressed. Highly recommend checking it out if you've never experienced it. "

  • "Have returned to Mama's on several occasions. The seafood is always amazing. The selection and preparations of the fish is first class. The staff is truly tuned to the diners' needs and desires. Price is on the high side. But, worth the money."

  • "Don't let the name fool you, celebrities, VIPs, and common folk all mix here to get the great ambiance and FRESH seafood. Everything on the menu was caught the morning it is served. The menu even tells who caught it and where. Get there early if you want a window seat, if you can in time for sunset. They also offer rooms if you want to stay nearby."

  • "Finally, my husband and I were able to have dinner alone (without kids 8, 6, & 4). Finally, we were able to try Mama's Fish House. Everyone in my family has been and has raved about how magical it is, how delicious it is, how overall awesome it is. We heard about a signature dish, we heard about the beautiful setting, the magical sunsets, the wholesome and friendly appearance of the staff, and the changing menu that, expensive, never lets anyone down. This place lived up to all the hype. It was beautiful, but not overly stuffy. It was really good tasting food, but not unrecognizable (as in not too fancy), and the proportions were right. The drinks were good and the sunset was pretty. This place has it all - being in Hawaii works, too!"

  • "Mama's Fish House is located on a beautiful beach in Maui. We were a party of 4 and had a table with a direct view of the beach, dining on a Sunday mid afternoon. Service was prompt and helpful. Favorites were the appetizers, Wasabi Crusted Calamari and the Hawaiian Shrimp Wonton. Dinner favorites were MahiMahi stuffed with lobster and crab, a duck dish not sure of the name, and the Panang Curry. We also had the Lilikoi Crème Brulee and homemade Coconut Carmel ice cream. I recommend Mama for special occasions. We always take our visitors to Mama's Fish House."

  • "The location is lovely, the atmosphere bustling and the service is outstanding. The crab cakes were good but not the best we have had. The Polynesian prawn and pork dishes were delicious. Although it was a lovely lunch it was very expensive and very touristy."
