Food was delicious and service was friendly if a little slow. The decor in the restaurant is classy and fitting. Service was awesome. Then the food- Superb! Our meals were fantastic. We had the Seared Tuna, Tuna Sashimi, Grilled Shrimp, Octopus and more. It was some of the best food we have ever eaten. We took our 8 and 10 year old and they loved their meals as well. It is just fascinating to see all the decor. The beach in front is magnificent. The fish we had was so fresh and tasty, I could not imagine anyone would ever worry about that. The fish I had was moist and perfectly done. Everyone enjoyed their meal, but agreed that it was not the best they ever had. There was a little mixup on the dessert order, but they made good on it. The mahi mahi stuffed with crab and topped with a lobster tail is not only as good as it sounds but better. The sauce is spectacular. Mama's also has home made desserts baked right in their own bakery and they are spectacular. It's good but the prices are extraordinarily High for what you get. its not like Chef Morimoti is on the premises personally greating you. it is also crowded and the decor is cluttered and dated. the nostalgia is what is selling. One dish was amazing, one tasted like Chicken Piccata but with fish instead of chicken - that dish was a bit disappointing. I've been here three times in 3 trips to maui and eat at a lot of high end restaurants. It is still impressive for most people. The food and ambiance is so special that this year we made reservations for three nights out of four. Our main issue is that we love what we order so much it is hard to move on to anything else. The MahiMahi dish is spectacular as are the lobster tails and all of the appetizers. This may be our very favorite restaurant anywhere in the US. There are great restaurants all over Maui but don't miss this one, it's a gem! Everything about it is beautiful! Actually, it's beyond beautiful! The food is excellent and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service goes well beyond my expectations- the free valet, hosts and wait staff are all so attentive. And the view!! It's Hawaii! You can bet your bottom dollar it's going to be perfect. It's no wonder we choose to come back here every time and the place my husband chose to propose. Most recently we brought our son (just two days before this post) to celebrate his 5th birthday. They even put a special sign for him wishing him happy birthday on our table. I've dined at many upscale restaurants and none can meet what I found at MFH. If you want to enjoy a sunset meal, book very early because we could not get in after 4:30 in the afternoon. This is a MUST SEE place if you're on the island of Maui. Your visit there won't be complete if you miss this restaurant. At least that was the hope, and Mama's did not disappoint. From the courteous valet and hostesses, to the personalized touch in response to our 2nd anniversary reservation. And of course the food. The crab cakes were absolutely the best I've had, and the stuffed Mahi Mahi was incomparable.
I think we may have had the best table in the house for view and really enhanced our experience. Locally caught seafood (name of boat with the catch), octopus, salads and killer desserts. Everything we tried was outstanding.
One of the few spots with carafe coffee, huge fresh pot.
Servers were great, attentive, but leaving lots of time to sit quietly and enjoy both the view of the little beach, the gardens and the parade of other diners.
Rest of Maui rather disappointing, so this drive to the other side of the island was well worth it. As it was my husbands birthday, they sat us at a great table looking out on the golden sands in plenty of time to watch the tamarind sunset. They also made a special card for him and served a delicious homemade banana ice cream for desert. First, the location is excellent. While not right on the water the restaurant has some spectacular views especially if you go around sunset. My wife and I arrived a little before our reservation time and were sat at the bar until our table was ready. The drinks were excellent. All the food was great from the appetizers to the entrees. Unfortunately we didn't sample dessert since we had to catch our plane. All the wait staff was attentive and upbeat. The restaurant is almost a Disney attraction in itself (in a good way) loaded with ambiance. The food was outstanding, local fish extremely fresh and well-prepared. My only complaint was we arrived a little early (1/2 hr) and still waited another 40 min or so past our reservation time....altogether 1+ hour, even though beautiful setting, that's still too long. But all else great. I recommend that if dates are flexible, one should book early and keep trying till you can get a 6pm.
