A word from Mama's Boy Southern Table & Refuge
We call ourselves a “southern table and refuge”because that’s exactly what we are. A place to enjoy casual, yet refined country cuisine where you’re treated like family and can seek respite from the world in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that pays tribute – in every way – to all that’s great about the great South.

From the reclaimed wood from a Florence, South Carolina, water tower that brings warmth to our space, to the authentic Alabama railroad ties from which to hang your hat, Mama’s Boy is putting the “South” in South Norwalk. As for the food? Fabulously fresh, locally sourced, lovingly prepared. You’ll find all your southern favorites, from classic shrimp and grits to country fried game hen, with a modern Mama’s Boy twist…because we like to present “low country” in high style.

This is not the Sourhern comfort food I was expecting. Under cooked, over salted fried fare with spotty service in a space they can't afford to heat. We wore Winter coats through dinner. Would not go back.

Enjoyed Mama's Boy, but not on a Sat. night. Noise level is LOUD and service is slow! Waitstaff brought extra corn muffins to tide us over because we were waiting so long for our dinner - even getting drinks took forever. We've had lunch and dinner here on weekdays , and everything is much better.

Great food and atmosphere! Went for brunch and it was perfect. Great bottomless deals. Only feedback is that the band that started playing at 1pm was a bit loud for an early Sunday. Besides that, I'm definitely going back!

A delicious upgrade to "normal" southern cooking. Break out from the normal "continental" cooking and enjoy southern American dishes expertly prepared and served. Classics such as Green Fried Tomatoes, Cheesy Grits and Fried Catfish put some "Southern" in Southern New England. Even the most ardent New England Yankee will be saying y'all after dinner.

Recommended by the server, I ordered the pork shank which turned out to be tasteless. The short ribs my wife ordered was really a brisket smothered in bbq-like sauce. Only four other entrees were on the menu, so limited. Two out of four poorly done, we will not go back.

Limited menu consisting of very unusual dishes. The food is good but not as good as it used to be. The new pork shank over hominy was filling but kind of boring and not crispy. The house made sausage was hard to find. The crab cakes were very small with stringy crab meat. I have tried a lot of dishes here and the only outstanding one was shrimp & grits on my first visit. The wine and drinks are overpriced which is not unusual for the area. Our server was great.

We had another great meal on Saturday night, as usual! We were disappointed that the oyster appetizer was not on the menu, but enjoyed sweet cornbread, crab cakes, shrimp & grits & catfish! We had a hard time deciding between the Halloween peanut butter & chocolate cake or the coconut cake for dessert. We went with the coconut cake which was heavenly! The place is always hopping on Saturday night. Food, service & living atmosphere are what makes Mama's Boy is one of our favorite restaurants! Can't wait to try the new place, Jax & Co., the next time I'm in SONO!

My husband and I were visiting from NYC for the weekend and found this restaurant. I have two words: love it!!! We original dined for lunch on Saturday but loved the food and the service so much that we returned the next day for Sunday brunch. We will definitely return again for dinner in our next visit to Norwalk ct.

We had a large party with kids and they were VERY accommodating. First, the bloody mary. WOW. We got the regular blood mary (they have a bacon one if you dare!) and we fell in love. If you like it on the spicier side order it extra spicy - it really is as good as everyone says it is. A few of us ordered the burger and we all really enjoyed it. It was slightly overcooked (we all asked for med-rare), but it was incredibly flavorful and juicy, so we barely noticed the overcooked part. The toppings are really fun on the burger too. Kid's meals were okay. Great sized portions, but not as flavorful as they could have been. That being said, I am pretty sure that may be intentional. I would definitely go back - great place, great food.

I absolutely love the personal touch you're given from the moment you arrive. The owner is never too busy to make her guests feel comfortable. This attribute is also felt with the entire staff. The mixologist, Justine, is superb at what she does. I met one of my friends here for dinner last night and was pampered with great customer service by our waiter Adrian (sp?). For an appetizer we ordered the fried chicken skins which were amazing. Didn't care that much for the cabbage/slaw that accompanied this dish but the chicken and sauce were awesome. For entrees, we ordered bbq spare ribs and the pork shank. Out of the two, I would highly recommend the spare ribs..the pork shank, although seasoned well - I found it to be very dry.

The menu is truly decadent. Rich, unique, and filling but worth every calorie. Our waiter was exceptional. I almost thought he was the chef the way he knew about each dish - the ingredients and how it was prepared. I will definitely go back - after a few days of eating only salad...

We've just moved back East and Mama's Boy is at our doorstep, yet we hadn't immediately gone there. Our mistake: we brought friends and all agreed the food and service were outstanding. Two of us had the pork chops and were enraptured, another had the duck and swooned - the one who had the fried chicken refused to share! The food was far better than we had hoped. This is very well-executed Southern fare, not a feeble rendition of Southern stereotypical dishes or cliches. Beyond the superb menu, another virtue is the service: Connecticut restaurateurs could learn more than a few lessons from the Mama's Boy staff about professional, genuinely friendly service. In two words, Mama's Boy is "gracious" and "delicious". We left on a cloud.

Great menu and food. Staff was incredibly accommodating especially with food allergy and picky eaters. The brownie sundae with bacon for dessert did not disappoint. I would say overall it was a good meal. The fried green tomatoes were a bit mushy. The tomatoes weren't firm enough; the deviled eggs were rather dry and lacked salt; the fried chicken skins were bland; and the mac & cheese needed a cheesier flavor. My friend had the chicken and waffles which she seemed to enjoy. The best part of the meal honestly were the drinks. Very tasty and well mixed. Great location (although off the beaten path) but very fun.

When my Tennessean husband told me to find a place for Sunday brunch, I was delighted to read about Mama's Boy on YELP. I recently moved to Stamford and have been underwhelmed by a majority of the restaurants we have tried thus far. We ditched Stamford and tried Mama's boy in Norwalk for brunch this past weekend and finally a place that gets it. The staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating to our requests with a great atmosphere indoors and out. The menu (and food) is fantastic with multiple Gluten free options for anyone with celiacs , but more importantly than the food Mama's boy and the staff welcomes you as a valued customer and not an inconvenience. Well Done Mama's Boy!!!

The sangria wasn't good. It was watery. The Mac & cheese was supposed to be 4 cheese with cornbread crust and bacon. There was barely any cheese and it was bland. The fried green tomato were cut too think and so you bit in and it was water. The burger was bland and dry. The rosemary fries had zero rosemary. I wouldn't go back.

The food was not very good. My fiancé and I ordered the chicken and waffles. First set of waffle came to us cold, hard and burnt. We asked for more and the second set was uncooked and very blond. Not happy with the order. They did take off one of the chicken and waffle orders, but that wasn't enough to make us happy and for us to try the restaurant again. My niece was unhappy with her pork and our server was very forgetful.

We had previously eaten dinner at Mama's Boy and wanted to try the lunch. My husband thought the fried chicken skin appetizer was terrific. I had the chopped salad which also was terrific, but big enough for a meal. We both had the fried chicken breast w/biscuit which was good, but biscuit was too dense. I enjoyed the fried "yardbird" at dinner better. Desserts are great and BIG! Husband had the coconut cake, and I had the chocolate pecan pie which was served with vanilla ice cream. Both could have been shared, but we decided it was a day to eat everything! Service was very good. We will definitely be returning.

Must say we were disappointed in this trip to Mama's Boy. Have been for brunch several times and really enjoyed it. This time we were there for dinner during SONO restaurant week. This restaurant was on the higher priced list of choices ($29.99 for dinner), which under the fine print was for choice of two from Appetizer, entree, dessert. Many of the combinations came up to less than $29.99 from the regular menu! The choices were limited, as is expected on a special menu, but you could dine off the regular menu and spend less. Limited healthy choices, although the crab cakes were very good with no filler.
