Mamajuana Cafe - UWSfor all your Latin seafood cravingsToo many times, when faced with the option of paella, I give pause to the distinct possibility that I could be making a mistake. This is confirmed when, just like a poor risotto, you get something dried out, with rubbery seafood, and a lingering question of just what is the big deal, anyway, other than the sky-high price. So when I got the recommendation for the paella over the sea bass, I made the waiter really convince me; was it really THAT much better than the sea bass, or the shrimps served in a similar manner? He assured me it was. And, he was right. Finally, the rice was served tender and not either mushy or dried out, and a generous helping of mussels, clams, lobster, shrimp, as well as interestingly seasoned chicken.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Choice!I'm very glad we booked this place to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were a group of about 15 on a Saturday evening. The service was very attentive (from the hostess to the waitress). But let's talk food! It was extremely good! I had the red snapper, which was a great choice on my part. But from my understanding, the pork dish and paella were also very tasty. We had a platter of their "Latin Rolls", and while initially hesitant to try this Dominican play on sushi, I was extremely pleasantly surprised on how good these sushi rolls were (they basically fried plantains on sushi rolls and it works!!). We finished dinner just in time for the DJ's arrival, so we went from dining to partying. Music was great. Overall great time!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMalthough the food was great, although the food was great, the service could have been better. They were busy but I've seen busier and didn't have as hard a time getting someone's attention.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a quiet, slow night. We went on a quiet, slow night.
