A word from Mamacita
At Mamacita we pride ourselves on creating a community atmosphere while serving culinary creations and libations utilizing the freshest of ingredients. At the core of our offering is a homage to original Mexican dishes made from scratch each day. House-made tamales, tortillas and sauces create a foundation for our ever seasonal menu. While unique and carefully crafted ceviches, enchiladas and tacos have become house staples. We also take our tequila and beverages very seriously as we search out hand crafted and boutique distilleries to round out our over 60 in house tequilas and mescals. Three times recognized as "Best Mexican" in the San Francisco Bay Area we pride ourselves on providing you a great experience and love what we do everyday. Continued

  • "The food is just OK so If you are over 30, not into a bar scene or actually want to talk to your companions there are a lot better places in San Francisco."

  • "The food and ambiance at Mamasitas was fabulous. Excellent signature cocktails and the civiche was outstanding. Fun and energetic crowd. I was a little disappointed with the service. Had a large party of Australians with us, and the waitress was very short with them, at times rude, and refused to make any changes or substitutions to the order. We even offered to pay more, and she refused.. It was a simple change such as adding shrimp instead of chicken to a quesadilla. At the end of our meal she "thoughtfully" reminded us when she dropped the bill that she hadn't added gratuity to our bill. Still the food was great which made up for her behavior."

  • "Always excellent food and service. Just super noisy."

  • "It's a tough place to get a table for dinner unless you go early (5PM) or have reservations. It's understandably because they have great food, very nice staff, and good drinks! My wife and I have been there several times since moving to SF 5 years ago since we live in the neighborhood. We love the way Tacos are made and served. 3 great tasting soft tacos served on a platter that is easy to share. Muy bueno!"

  • "The tables are so close that your backside hangs over the adjacent table when squeezing into your seat and extricating yourself. You can hear every word of your neighbors' conversations, which they must nearly shout because the place is so loud. I found the meat far too salty. However, the service was impeccable."

  • "First let me say the food was good , I has the goat tacos , not too bad . The chips are not the best and too expensive for chips and salsa . My friends ordered a couple pitches of house margarita , too weak ! Not too much tequila. On top of that the parking is a pain . I had to spend almost 15 min driving around for a spot . Quiet frankly I rather to go to Gallegos Mexican food . This is mostly for people that have no idea what's really Mexican food . It's good for the american that haven't traveled out of this country ."

  • "The food is my favorite in the city and I love how you can order lots of small dishes and share with the whole table. It's a birthday tradition for me!"

  • "Everything our party ordered was very good. Our only complaint would be that service was on the slow side, but not a huge issue."

  • "The food on this visit was a bit below the usual. Salad a bit dried out. Taco likewise a bit dry. But the service and venue were good and it was probably just an off night."

  • "outstanding food and atmosphere! high recommendation"

  • "The place was packed on WED night....way to loud for 2 people to have a conversation. The salsa they served with the chips was bland....asked for a hotter version and that was GREAT! The menu is primarily tacos with 4 other options...the tacos were great..the enchiladas were also bland. Sadly, the best part of the meal was the side dish...the brussel sprouts were amazing!!!!"

  • "Our group of gentlemen, most often six or more, select a different restaurant in the Bay Area each month. This month is was Mamacita's, and boy are we delighted with our choice. Our waitress, Nichole, was extremely attentive and fun, our food was outstanding and the ambiance was very energetic. We each ordered a different entree and shared the goodies. With well poured margaritas and refilled appetizers, our epicurean adventure was one of our best. Muchas Gracias Mamacitas."

  • "Mamacita is a really fun place to go with a group for some delicious Mexican food. I recommend sharing multiple plates so that you get to try their unique, extensive menu. We especially loved the ceviche, brussel sprouts, and the carne asada tacos. The restaurant is very busy so reservations are a must!"

  • "Went at 5pm and was surprised to see the great specials for Happy Hour between 5-6pm: 25% off food and 50% off bottles of wine! along with other cocktail specials! Went with the Unti Zinfandel which was a perfect pairing of a rich, vibrant wine that was able to complement the rich and spicy meal."

  • "How did we miss this place? We've been going to La Barca (closed) and Tia's (love it) for years but have struck out finding that over the top "can you make Mexican sing aloud" experience in SF. Was Mamacita's on Open Table? If so, I completely missed it. Oh, the wasted years I could have been eating Mamacita Brussel Sprouts! Everything was truly wonderful - and we will go back. Probably will aim for the early side or a table toward the front because this place is loud! ~I think it's because everyone is eating brussels sprouts and it makes everyone feel so alive."

  • "The food was DELISH! We ordered the Chilaquiles with a side of Repollitos (Brussel Sprouts), and several items from the Appetizer menu: Guacamole Casero (which is served with a small cup of a very tasty salsa), Molotes, the Tartar de Hamachi, and some fresh corn tortillas. The service was excellent! The hostesses were OK, but our Waitress, Kaya was Fantastic! We felt like we had her undivided attention the entire time... Our water glasses were never empty, she gave excellent recommendations and she had a great personality. We never felt like we were bothering her at any time and she always came to check up on us! I highly recommend the Budin de Cocoa for dessert!"

  • "Everything was perfect. Our server was very knowledgeable, we ended up letting her decide what we should eat (four of us sharing) - and that was a great decision. The food and drinks were awesome - a huge selection of tequilas and dee-lish margharitas. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I am always looking for the next best Mexican-faire to add to my list of favorites. Mamacitas exceeded the list and went straight to the top! If Mexican food is a taste you can never get enough of then you have to eat here! Fresh and perfectly flavored!"

  • "I've always loved Mamacita's, their food is excellent. The only thing is the noise level, when it's packed you have to yell to be heard. That's the only thing I don't like about it but if you go early, before the crowds, then you can have a decent conversation without yelling."

  • "I looked into Mamacita after seeing it was listed among Michelin's Bib Gourmands (i.e. not awarded a start but has great food at reasonable prices). I can see why it made the list. The food was really good Mexi-Cali cuisine. The portions are a bit smaller so we were told to get a couple extra but we defied that advice and ordered a lot extra -- it ended up being too much for our group of four, hungry eaters. That's a good problem though and the leftovers were great the next morning with a fresh egg cracked on top (a pseudo-chilaquiles). Our server was outstanding, helping guide us through the menu and giving us plenty of attention. I highly recommend this spot."

  • "Really fun and vibrant atmosphere! Energetic staff with Excellent service. Food was really good. Only negative is that the menu is pretty limited. Would like to see enchaladas or a relleno."

  • "All food dishes were excellent, from the duck tacos to the shredded beef enchilada. Guacamole and salsa were delicious, although the supply of chips was a bit light. Aztec soup was spicy and warm, more tomato-base liquid than hearty. This was our second visit, and we plan to head back for more."

  • "Highly recommend making this trip outside of main tourist areas for dinner at this vibrant Mexican in a great area of town where restaurants abound."
    Dined on 11/23/2013
  • "The food was amazing and definitely not your typical Mexican food, but unfortunately it was so loud that I could hardly hear my dining companion sitting across the table from me. The restaurant was only about half full while we were there, so I shudder to think how loud it it would get if it was a full house!"

  • "Went here to celebrate a double-date boyfriends birthdays. The food was great, the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. I've been hearing about Mamacita for two years and most restaurants do not live up to the hype, this one did. Padrecito opened up in my neighborhood recently and now I must try it."

  • "Some of our favorites have subtlety changed. Something seems different but I can't put a handle on it. Overall, the restaraunt has gone from a 9 to a 6 but, there is nothing I can pinpoint."

  • "I am by no means an expert on Mexican (Sydney Australia lacks good Mexican) but this restaurant was just yummy and service was five stars. I went on a Monday evening and had a gorgeous waiter, Eric. I highly recommend the buttermilk calamari tacos, jicama y fruta salad and the guacamole. Just a great modern Mexican restaurant which uses fresh local ingredients."

  • "I've been to this several times, I never knew until this trip that much of the produce served at this restaurant comes from the family farm of the chef and owner! In any case, I love this place and had to bring my husband on our honeymoon to have the Jicama salad and of course their amazing tacos. Highly recommend their fish and goat tacos... drinks are a must but they are super strong and service is always amazing. Really fresh food and seasonally themed. We love this place! Next time we're in town, we're definitely coming back again. :)"
