Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Mama Mia many times and it always meet my expectation"
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The server was quiet, shy and awkward. He only shared the specials with one person at one end of the table so the rest of our party didn't know there were any specials at all. We were unable to make a special order request for our son. When the food arrived, a long time after we had ordered it, most food tasted alright, but the fetuccini alfredo sauce was broken and had no garlic flavor or seasoning. It was terrible. This was not the usual experience so it seems that the restaurant was having an off-night and they seemed to know it because they gave us extra's to make up for it and the manager kept coming by to apologize even though we had not complained. It will be awhile before we return."

  • "Came here looking for simple Italian dinner. Vibe was rundown and Room had a slight odor. Food was mediocre. Service was adequate. Didn't expect much, but came away disappointed."

  • "Really nice, dependable restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Gluten free items, very good wine at reasonable prices. I went there first after trying to get into Mother's down the street, their line was just too long. I have grown to love Mama Mia's and now prefer it---better dinner menu, excellent lasagna, great cioppino, and really delicious breakfasts. I am a convert."

  • "Mama Mia went out of their way to accommodate a 10 person party with only an hour's notice. I can't say enough about the wonderful service. The food was delicious -- I particularly enjoyed the pesto gnocchi -- the cocktails were interesting and well-crafted, and the pacing of the meal was perfect."

  • "The folks over at Mama Mia Trattoria have your back! I was on a date with a girl who had a severe gluten allergy, which makes finding places she can eat difficult After looking around for a few days, I found Mama Mia and made a reservation for us. I mentioned in the reservation the gluten allergy and when we arrived the wait staff was prepared and very accommodating. As an added bonus all the dietary restrictions are now written on the menu so there's no need to ask for a specialty menu, which was a treat for my date. The final verdict from us was five stars. We will eat here again. I encourage anyone vegan/vegetarian/gluten free or otherwise to give them a look. They will take care of you."

  • "Not sure if it was a kitchen mix up or what......my wife had ordered the eggplant parmigiana and what she got was unlike any eggplant I've ever seen....we let the server know and within five minutes she had a piping hot replacement meal with apologies all around. Even though there was a mix up I would go back because of the freshness of the food and the great service!"

  • "The service and the food were outstanding. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the best Italian restaurant in Oregon. I can't say enough about how good the food was. It really was outstanding. I loved the decor and ambiance of the restaurant too. The server was attentive but not overbearing."

  • "We had a nice time visiting with our guest at brunch on Sunday. The atmosphere was great and it was fun getting out to try a new place."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Service was terrific as was the food. The waiter, Chris was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu items and how they tasted and were prepared. We noticed that they cleaned the menus after each use which is something you seldom see. They even will share how various dishes are prepared so that you can try them out at home. Really enjoyed this restaurant."

  • "Sadly the place was packed and the noise level was outrageous. Food was ok. I'd rather go to Roma or Mucca."

  • "We have been here on numerous occasions. Today they told us it would be an additional 10 min. 20 min later, we were still waiting to be sat even though there were multiple tables open and a plethora of servers standing around talking. After waiting 10 min for the server to come by, we ordered the waiter told us they were the lobster macaroni & cheese. I ordered the ravioli with a caprese salad. After 10 min without drinks, the waiter came back to tell us they were out of both. 25 min of waiting without a refresh on drinks we then decided to leave as we had revived one set of drinks and bread in our 1 hour 20 min time at the restaurant."

  • "The restaurant was packed when we got there, had to wait 20 minutes for our table to clear, other than that it was a great dining experience, owner was very apologetic, our waiter (sorry can't remember his name) was exceptional, food was very good, we will definitely eat there again and tell our friends."

  • "We had been here for a company dinner in a secluded room. This time we were in the main dining room which was much more comfortable. Our server, Chris, was probably the best in the house. The food was excellent as was the wine. We will definitely return!"

  • "If you want delicious Italian style food...this is it. Be ready to have a surrounding of conversations from a variety of distinct people, all having a good time and sharing their conversations with you by sheer volume. I was a bit surprised, but if you know what to expect I believe you will truly enjoy your dining there...you just have to flow with it. My 3 grand daughters loved the food and disappointingly wouldn't share their left overs with me."

  • "My husband and I haven't been back to Mama Mia since this past December after my birthday dinner mishap. We signed up for their mailing list since we semi-frequented and I received dinner on the house for my birthday. Cool, we thought. At the end of our meal we felt like the food was sub-par, random for this restaurant, and that we were nickle and dimed. The manager ended up charging me for parts of my entree. Poor experience. We decided to go to this past Sat. since our visiting friend had never been. The ambiance was much the same, but the food prices were outrageous. $17.95 for fettuccine alfredo, which was very bland. $16.95 for a small dish of manicotti. I honestly feel like we made a poor choice and should have gone someplace else. "

  • "Amazing, authentic Italian cuisine at reasonable prices (3/4 dollar signs considering it's fine dining). Love the eggplant parmigiano and broccoli florets with pino gris. Bring your girlfriend or significant other here, and a romantic, fun time is guaranteed :). "

  • "Entertained a group of customers and everyone was delighted with the food and service."

  • "The calamari and garlic bread was pretty good but the Caesar salad was dry and kept too long in the fridge before serving...otherwise okay drinks/wine."

  • "We had not been to this restaurant for two or three years, and there had been a change in ownership, so we tried them again. We looked forward to the lasagna. The servings were large, drowned in red sauce, and were a not-bad example of American ideas of Italian food. So if that is what you want, give it a try. If you want Italian food, go elsewhere."

  • "nice way to celebrate an anniversary. Called ahead and gave us a special table to accommodate a baby. Food delicious."

  • "My sisters and I were in Portland for the weekend and noticed this restaurant on a list within walking distance from our hotel. We arrived a few minutes early but were able to be seated at our reserved table quickly. The food was wonderful and wine list had many choices. My one sister had a gin martini and said it was excellent. The prices were reasonable and I would recommend this restaurant for small groups and families and friends catching up."

  • "The staff was great and the food portions were priced for the quality. Would prefer the delicious Italian Bread be included in the meal."

  • "The food is good, but not notable. You won't find anything you couldn't easily duplicate at home, except you'd have to prepare it all. Server was very good (Melissa) - busy for a Sunday evening, but she did a great job of handling our big party, and several other tables. The gnocchi & beef special was outstanding! Other dishes okay. Lobster mac & cheese was pretty tasteless - 2 orders went largely untouched."

  • "The food was amazingly delicious and the waiters perfect. The only thing that keep this from being 5 stars was the hostess. The atmosphere was that of a classy place...she wore a very revealing dress her bra was showing she spoke in a clueless (movie reference) manner using duh and um repeatedly. As she was seating us she told us her ex shared the same last name as us, as we were leaving she was stroking a male host back and arm, very inappropriate and made a classy beautiful restaurant with amazing wait staff and delicious food become overlooked by her shocking behavior."

  • "In a town where many restaurants are getting too expensive and needlessly innovative, Mama Mia is and elegant setting with well executed takes on classic fare at a reasonable price. It was the little things that made the dining experience so satisfying: good bread, well composed salads, vegetables cooked correctly, attentive service, a warm greeting and being seated quickly. A nice break from restaurants getting a little too full of themselves. "

  • "Mama Mia has good basic Italian food. Nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Service was good and prices, while maybe a little higher than I would like, are not unreasonable. You won't be disappointed but you won't be talking about how fantastic it was either. "

  • "Four of us dined on this occasion. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We made reservations & let them know we were going to be under time constraints. They took care of us well and got us to our event with ample time in spite of being busy on a prom night. Thank you. We will be back."

  • "Last Saturday night the 17th of May my group of 4 had a reservation at 5:30 pm. We arrived 5 minutes early and did not get seated until 6:10 pm. When we walked in the door I was told by one of the servers " you will be taken care very soon." After a long stand we were happy to get seated. The waiter spilled water on our table to start off with. When I got my spaghetti and meatballs I was expecting a moderately good dish compared to Olive Garden which has a cheaper version. The sauce was watered down and the portion was very small. My friends lasagna was burnt on three edges and could not eat a good portion of it. The waiter managed to step on my foot three times through out the evening. This was also our senior prom. We will never go back!"

  • "This was the best Italian food I've had. Even better than what I had in Little Italy in San Francisco. Went on prom night and the service was still exceptional even though they were slammed not only with prom but a race in Portland the next day."

  • "We ate here for the Mother's Day Brunch last Sunday and were very pleased. As promised, my mom got a complimentary mimosa and a carnation. The dining area is well-decorated and classy-looking. I had the eggs Benedict, which came with a side of hashbrowns and was very tasty. The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. Will definitely be going back here for lunch at some point."

  • "My mom and I had Mother's Day brunch and the service was very nice, although we had to ask for the free glass of sparkling wine which was a little chintzy. The frittata was pretty bland but the hash browns were good and the price was fair."

  • "The experience started off with being told at least three different things they were out of at 530pm on a Friday. Two of which I planned to order - the antipasto appetizer for my family of 5 and the tiramisu (what Italian restaurant runs out of tiramisu?!??). The rest of the food was just ok - not one thing was fabulous. The price wasn't bad though. Kind of bummed because this is the nearest Italian to the hotel I always stay at. Want tasty and not super expensive with kids, go to Mother's next door instead. "

  • "My daughters special pasta dish was flavorless. With the added chicken it cost $23. The pesto pasta was dry and lacked flavor. The other entrees were delicious."

  • "The food and service were first rate. It was a bit loud but we could still carry on a conversation. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "A first visit to Portland. Mamma Mia's was close and convenient to our downtown hotel. The service was good but we found the food left a little to be desired: The Lasagna was overpowered by the pomedoro sauce (too much sauce), and the prawn scampi dish was rather bland with the prawns slightly overcooked and tough. The use of the word scampi did throw me off as I was expecting scampi not normal prawns."
