A word from Mama Chuy
Mama Chuy DC, a modern-day Mexican taqueria... is so much more than your typical run-of-the-mill taco joint. Head Chef and menu developer, Joe Orozco has long been inspired by the authentic home cooking of his childhood, so much so that he named his first restaurant after his beloved Grandmother. Armed with recipes passed down for generations, his main goal is to continually provide flavorful food, with basics jazzed up by locally sourced seasonal products. While authenticity is ever-important, at Mama Chuy DC, there is room for creativity and reinvention without losing sight of true Mexican flavors.

We love Mama Chuy's guacamole and sopes, and the homey feel of the restaurant. We know to not go here when we're in a hurry, as the service can be slow. If you keep that in mind, it will be an excellent trip.

GREAT FOOD AND DRINKS! Love the margaritas and sopes. However, the service is very slow. The restaurant is small, maybe 4-5 small tables, and they only have one waiter to do everything (bring and bus the food, make the drinks etc). The food is 100% worth it, but it helps to go in aware it is going to be a long process. They have 3 different salsas, and they are delicious! They will bring multiple out, just ask!

Food was great and server was great, but terribly understaffed. If this place is able to overcome the service obstacle, it will be outstanding.

The food was great, but it should be noted that they serve their tacos tapas style. They are delish. The service was a little off, but friendly. There are still some kinks that need work out, but I wouldn't let that prevent me from going back. It is a casual atmosphere and would be a fun place to meet up at after work (good happy hour).
