  • Catering: We offer a wide selection of Catering Offerings. We cater for 2-300 guests depending on logistics. You can choose menus from our website or you can have our Chef personalize a menu that will be certain to please. Some of the most popular items are farm fresh fruits and vegetables. We also utilize a vast array of ingredients found locally, regionally and all throughout the United States.
  • Private Party Facilities: We have 3 private dining rooms which are Handicapped Accessible. They are upstairs (elevator) The largest seats up to 120 guests with a private bar. We can divide that room in half for 2 parties of 45 each or less. Two of our rooms overlook historic downtown Springfield. One room has it"s own private bar.

Getting there

  • Parking: Public Lot
  • Parking Details: Each day after 5:00pm you are welcome to park in the lot behind Maldaner's via the alley. There are 2 spots that are always reserved but the rest are posted as "Scott and Scott" and "Merrill Lynch" and are available to use. If full we suggest the Municipal Parking Garage on 7th and Monroe. (attached to the Hilton) Walk out of garage towards 7th street and go through the alley (it is well lit) to 6th street and take a left on the sidewalk. You will see Maldaner's Awning
A word from Maldaner's
Established in 1884, Maldaner's Restaurant and Catering is one of Springfield's finest restaurants. If you have visited The Old State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House or the State Capitol, you can imagine the wonderful celebrations Maldaner's likely was a part of at the turn of the last century and to the present day.

Today, under the guidance of Chef-Owner Michael Higgins, Maldaner's respects tradition while offering the best of contemporary American fine dining in our historical setting.

Chef Higgins features seasonal local and regional ingredients influenced by Mediterranean composition and preparation.

Heirloom vegetables, humanely raised meats and Slow Food all artistically prepared and presented.

  • "This was my first time making reservations online with Open Table. We were a party of 10 and all was set up as we arrived. We were met and waited on from the time we sat down until we left. Our water and wine glass were refilled the entire night without us asking. The waitress was very knowledgeable on what the specials were for the night and repeated the specials for each end of the table since we were spread out. The bread brought out early was very good and I like the touch of having olive oil and cheese with it. Everyone ordered something different and it was all good. My rib-eye melted in my mouth and had great taste! We topped off the night with ice cream desserts which were heavenly. I would say this was an outstanding meal!"

  • "My husband ordered the rack of lamb medium rare, and it arrived perfectly cooked. I the special chilled shrimp soup, which was chock full of shrimp and very refreshing. My husband's chilled beet soup was beautiful as well as delicious. I also had a green salad with hearts of palm, and the small plate scallop wrapped with shrimp and bacon. Desserts were a lemon curd tart and profiteroles with coffee ice cream. The lemon tart was an improvement on those we've had elsewhere, where the filling tends to be gummy. Here is was the perfect consistency and tartness. Service was attentive but not intrusive."

  • "Excellent food and very nice atmosphere. The building is very old, but well maintained. Many tables outside, so if you want to eat out there, there should be no problem. We were having a quiet anniversary dinner, and this restaurant was an excellent choice for that. The service was just ordinary, and I expected more for a place that bills itself as "fine dining". Overall, I'll certainly go back and would recommend Maldaner's to anyone looking for a "fine dining" experience."

  • "Read lots of great things about Maldaner's but the experience and more importantly the food did not live up to the reviews. We took our three children and they were not so excited to see them. The food, I can only speak for myself and my wife. My wife had the fish special with a strawberry sauce, more like a topping and I had the house speciation beef Wellington. Great presentation and very good, but the quality of the beef was questionable. So, for $400 with 3 kids eating $11 plates of pasta, I have a hard time recommending this to anyone. "

The service was top notch and very customer oriented. The food was great. I would suggest to anyone to try this great restaurant. Location is close to many attractions, so you can walk off your feast. Much better experience than hotel dining. Had reservations for 6:30 and place filled up during our visit, so suggest you make reservations, too, just to play it safe. Will dine there again next time we are in springfield."

  • "Every aspect of this place was wonderful...except one. We arrived early for our reservation and decided to wait at the bar. The bartender was rude and incredibly unhappy to serve us. When asked by the hostess to inform us of the off menu items for the evening, she gave a quick glare to her and then recited the items unwillingly. I realize she was busy pouring all the drinks for the restaurant but we were the only two at the bar. Everyone else we came in contact with was exceptionally friendly! The hostess seemed to be running the show with ease and a warm smile. Our waiter was polite and attentive. We dined outside and it was the perfect evening for it. This place is not to be missed! "

  • "I made reservations through OpenTable.com the day before we went to Maldaner's. I got my confirmation e-mail and we were good to go. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:30pm and had to wait just a bit before being seated. Both my partner and I had the Beef Wellington. I had the Goat Cheese Salad (which is always awesome) and the great warm bread that was served. It was a busy Saturday night at Maldaner's, but most of the dinner crowd came after we arrived. We were seated in the bar area and it was a bit noisy, but still charming. My Beef Wellington was cooked medium rare and was excellent. My partner's was supposed to be medium well, but looked more medium rare. He still ate it and took home the leftovers. A good meal anyway!"

  • "Spring is morel season, the time when these elusive and incredibly delicious wild mushrooms are gathered up by hunters who guard their secret locations jealously. Many of these little treasures wind up at Maldaner's, an even comparable to soft-shell crabs near the Chesapeake or fiddlehead ferns in Maine. We had them three ways--in a tart, a risotto, and as a sauce over real walleye pike. All three dishes presented the morels differently, while at the same time highlighting the mushroom's taste and texture. A completely wonderful dinner that's turned by now into an annual pilgrimage."

  • "Maldeners is a classic place in Springfield. I haven't eaten there in quite a number of years as I don't get to Springfield too often. I was pleased we decided to stop there. It was a beautiful evening, so we opted to eat outside. Other than a few loud motorcycles, no regrets with that decision. The menu offered a lot of choices with unique qualities that left me wanting to try several different items. I opted for the quail, which I had never had before and was not disappointed, in fact quite pleased and would order it again in a heart beat if it weren't for the other items I want to try next time. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert which again had several choices I would have loved to try. "

  • "My husband had never been to Springfield, and I wanted him to have an authentic experience at a local restaurant, so chose Maldaner's. The food was fair (his lasagna noodles with bolognese sauce was bland, my penne with baby artichokes was ok, but very few artichokes were noted. What really spoiled our dinner was our server's attitude. Once she heard that we were not ordering alcohol, she could hardly be bothered with us. She never offered to replenish the bread, nor take time to elaborate on the dishes we asked about, nor ask how our meals were. "

  • "The food is always good at Maldaner's. Husband ordered the special, a pork chop wrapped in pork belly. I had a bite. Very tasty! I had the mushroom pasta. very rich. A great choice for vegetarians. For appetizer had smoked trout which was yummy. Husband had lobster bisque which he liked. (I don't care for lobster bisque anywhere.) I had the micro green salad. Everything was very fresh. The meat was a local farm. Very good wine list allthough we did not have any. Topped everything off with the chocalate-hazlenut dessert which we split. So good. We love this place!!"

The menu includes seasonal and local produce and meats. Portions are sizes are reasonable. I had the filet ordered medium well and it was perfect, without being butterflied. The mesclun green salad is consistently delicious."
