  • "Enjoyed our dinner at MALA. If you are staying in the resort you can get 20% off that makes this reasonable. Great sunset on the patio. Service was a little slow but not bad. Would recommend"

  • "They have updated the menu and it's was a nice surprise (not that the old one was bad). We've been going to the one in Lahaina for years. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu."

  • "After a long day we decided to eat in the Wailea Marriott restaurant. The food is fair, but steaks ordered were not the right temperature. Have drinks and eat at Miigrant which is a more casual atmosphere."

  • "Went to Mala in Lahaina and were happy to go to Mala in Wailea as it was closer. Food was excellent but prices have increased since we last visited. Service was wonderful and the sunset beautiful but to pay $25 for parking on top of a $200 meal is annoying. Especially since we were not forewarned about the hefty parking costs. The restaurant should comp this. It put a sour taste in out mouth when leaving and will not be returning to Mala in Wailea."

  • "We really enjoyed the dinner at Mala's. Our server gave recommendations for first course and entrée. We took both suggestions and very happy we did. Unfortunately I do not remember her name. I recommend you try Mala for the food and the view."

  • "We went as a party of 4 to all have the Kobe burgers. I had eaten the Kobe burger at the Lahaina location 2 years earlier, and it was one of the best burgers I've ever enjoyed. While all the extras and bun were excellent, it was very clear the Kobe patty is now frozen, not fresh. Huge disappointment. To add insult to injury, the price on the online menu said $21 for the burger. In reality when we ordered them, the price was $24 PER ORDER. $100 for 4 frozen patty burgers was outrageous, and we will never be back."

  • "My Wife and I married on Maui and wanted an upscale dining experience in a romantic restaurant, with open dining and an ocean view. Mala did not disappoint. Our waitress offered us complimentary champagne as a congratulations from Mala. We both ordered the filet mignon - a nice presentation, with delicious vegetables. Though my steak seemed a bit over cooked, my wife's was perfect. Though my wife and I had differing opinions on the food, the overall dining experience was pleasant, the view was perfect and our service staff were attentive and friendly and I would recommend Mala,."

  • "We had a great experience at The MALA this week with my family - it was our second time dining there. The staff were great - they were very attentive during the dinner and the food was really good. We enjoyed the Mac & Cheese, Beet & Goat Cheese Salad, Pea Shoot & Watermelon Salad. They even served a free appetizer - tortilla chips and organic salsa. They even took the Costco certificate for the MALA Ocean Tavern - which is in Lahaina - we did not read the fine print in our certificates!! Anyways, in summary we would recommend a dining experience at The MALA. Aloha!!!"

  • "This was our second visit to Mala and we enjoyed the food and the experience very much. The only concern we would share is that our waitress seemed very keen to have us place our entrée order, despite the fact that the restaurant was not overly busy. Reluctantly we did so and the mains arrived about 1 minute after our appetizer. Our server quickly fixed the situation so we were not in any way affected but it did seem odd; we will take our time next time we visit Mala."

  • "We made a reservation at MALA, although we weren't staying at the Marriott. We saw an ad stating that they welcomed vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free diners. We are vegetarian, tending towards a vegan diet. We were seated outside right around sunset. The outside seating was stifling; ceiling fans would have been welcome. We were provided with the vegetarian menu and were a little surprised to find only one true vegetarian entree (after seeing the ads); one that looked vegan was only listed as gluten free, so it might have had fish sauce in it. We ordered an appetizer, a nice big fresh salad, and a stir-fry entree and tofu steak entree (the one listed as gluten free, but not vegan). All were fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Yum!"

  • "Mala Wailea's food is good, but not great, and the service was simply aggravating. They appeared severely understaffed, even though only about 2/3 of the tables were occupied. At one point we waited for over 30 minutes for a simple drink order (a beer and a glass of wine) - even after reminding both our bus boy, and then later the hostess who happened to walk by our table. (We had not seen our waiter at all since placing the original order.) Mala prices their menu on par with the most expensive restaurants on the island, but delivers only marginal food and extremely poor service. Try Nick's Fishmarket, Capishe, or even Mama's Fish Market for a far better experience at about the same prices."

  • "We were interested in sharing appetizers only, because we had a big evening planned. The choices were limited and hard to share (e.g. soup and brussels sprouts?) More important out service was limited, too. It would be hard to recommend. There are too many other choices in Maui."

  • "Didn't expect much, and we received much less. Reservation was made for convenience on our arrival day at the Wailea Marriott. Hoping to have a palatable meal, without having to drive. The view is superb for sunset's,as was our room. Likely would have had a superior meal from room service. One cold and tasteless entree was consumed out of hunger. The other was requested to be warmed, then I was presented with a new, yet equally cold dish? The waiter was nonplussed when I offered a taste of the dish, when he inquired about the replacement. My request that it simply be taken away, and for the bill was met with distain. A subsequent visit from a manager provided apologies, and that dish removed from the bill, without apparent understanding........."

  • "We had a new server, they had a minor fire in the kitchen, and we wound up skipping our entrees after enjoying our apps"

  • "We've eaten here several times every year since it opened. As always the food and service was great. This year half the space was given over to another restaurant with same chef which seems odd. Also, the menus was cut in half and many of the interesting dishes are gone. The fun seems lacking. Without the name, it would be impossible to know this is supposed to be an outpost of the Lahina legend."

  • "So much better than the last time we went there. The quality of the food and preparation have improved enormously. We will be back."

  • "My wife and I went with a coupon from the hotel for a discount and reserved for 5:30 to catch the sunset, which was amazing. We had some drinks and good salads but what was the best was the opaka paka, whole fried snapper with vegetables sauces and a sweet potata puree. Very good food reasonable prices and a great spot."

  • "After reading some of the reviews for this restaurant, we approached with trepidation. However, we had recently arrived and did not feel like going out for a meal. We were pleasantly surprised. As far as most hotel restaurants go, we thought this one stood above most. There was quite a wait to be seated but we were seated within a few minutes of our reservation. The service was very good as was the food. Of course, what makes most of the restaurants in this area memorable is the view and this one doesn't disappoint. We also ate the breakfast buffet here later in our trip. As buffets go, it is pretty typical. What impressed us was the price for "seniors". This has to be the bargain of the Island. Highly recommend it."

  • "For a resort restaurant on New Years Day we were surprised they were out of 3 entrees. Also disappointing that the restaurant wine list was 25% higher than room service for the same item."

  • "Very high prices for what you get. It's sad to spend a large sum of money for a meal and then walk away hungry. We waited over an hour for our dinner and they didn't provide bread while you sat their waiting. We will not be visiting this restaurant ant time soon."

  • "We selected Mala due to the beautiful scenery and ambiance for our Christmas Day Buffet Dinner. We arrived at 4:30 p.m. and found a variety of great food selections. The wait help was very fast and helpful and attended to all of our dining needs. Mahalo for making our Christmas meal an enjoyable and memorable one as well!"

  • "The service was painfully slow. The food was so-so. We won't go back. Apparently, the word has gotten around. The restaurant was practically empty."

  • "Superb hotel restaurant. Highly recommend ordering heavy pupu and sharing the dishes family style. Creative menu. Highlights included the seared ahi bruschetta, roasted beet salad with warm goat cheese, and Quattro platter. Drink selection was fun. I would especially recommend Coconut Porter draft beer, yum! Desert of Caramel Maranda was tasty, but if you are expecting a strong caramel presence, you may be disappointed. Mahalo for a fun evening."

  • "It was a quiet dinner although restaurant was busy. Excellent service. Sunset with a glass of wine."

  • "Two star restaurant masquerading as a four star restaurant. We went there because of the vegan menu - but found the food (both vegan and non vegan) rather poor - in both quality and presentation. The service was very slow and inexperienced and the decor needs updating. Save yourself the pain - at this price you can go anywhere else in Wailea and get quality. We will never go back to Mala again."

  • "I am very thankful that the staff and chef attempted to be so accommodating, but the overall experience was still very poor. I booked a reservation at MALA because I heard that it was a good restaurant for vegetarians & vegans. They did not indicate on their OpenTable page that Thanksgiving would have a limited menu. It was, in fact, a buffet with very few vegetarian options and only some overcooked brussel sprouts and a mostly empty salad bar as an option for a vegan. The chef offered to cook me a special dish, which was very nice. The dish was a sautéed tofu in peanut sauce dish, which was pretty good, but not worth the $60 per person charge that I still had to pay despite not being able to eat anything from the buffet."

  • "The chef is creative. The ingredients are always fresh, mostly locally grown organic and consistently excellent. Highly recommended. I'm on Maui 35 years and a huge fan of Mark Ellman."

  • "We really enjoyed both meals we had at MALA. The views were fabulous and it had a relaxing feel to the place. Completely non pretentious, which some of the fine dining places on Maui seem to have."

  • "I was staying in the Marriott and decided to check out Mala for its convenience and the fact that they offer a few gluten free dishes. I sat outside on the patio and started with a delicious daiquiri. For my meal I ordered the garlic cheese flatbread on a gluten free bread. It's a combo of feta, mozarella, and pecorino cheeses with garlic. It was spectacular!! I sometimes feel deprived of some of my favorite things as a person who has to eat gluten free, but not at Mala. I have missed cheesy garlic bread so much since going gluten free 1yr ago. This reminded me of a classier version of my favorite garlic bread. Loved it! Would definitely recommend Mala!"

  • "Mala's Lahaina is tops on my list and the same food at Mala's Wailea deserve a better environment. After sunset the lighting was turned up to surgery level brightness. So much for the candle on the table which was drowned out in the brightness. We were sitting at the ocean front but could not even enjoy the stars due to the lighting. Asked the waiter if they could be dimmed and he said he would see what he could do. Fifteen minutes later and he said the Manager was going to see if he could get permission. The third time we were told they were bright because of another customers request. Maybe some customer service training due here as I would never tell my customer that they were less important than one of my others."
