Although the interior design was done well, the noise level was uncomfortable and prevented our experience from being romantic. The menu variety was wide. A veggie in our group had a zillion choices. You could take your Japanese choices in many different directions. Lots of fun ordering lots of small plates. Don't miss the Frosty Kobe Beef Fried Rice. The only negative ( the night we were there 5/24/2013 ) would be that it was warm inside and we were not sitting on the side where the kitchen is. The air-conditioning needed to be cooler. We mentioned it to the waiter and he shrugged his shoulders but didn't do anything about it. The sushi is fresh and all menu items have highest quality ingredients. The chicken salad, tuna tartare and salmon filet are outstanding. Short ribs are a must. Sampling a number of items is the way to go so take a group. The outdoor patio is lovely when there's a breeze or cooler temperatures. I have been to Makoto a few times and can't get enough of the delicious menu and atmosphere. Must try and the service is flawless. THe menu offers a good variety of options. The only thing is that it can get quite expensive... be ready. Very nice surprise for my wife and I, since we thought it would be a commercial sushi spot. Quite the opposite!!! it was a real Japanese restaurant with a complete variety of excellent food. The sea bass is really special as well as the non traditional sushi sampler.
The only thing to improve is the speed of the service. We had to request many times to have the water brought to our table. Our server was great at helping us pick what to order, although we wanted to try so many things that we ended up over-ordering. The robata dishes were amazing as was the sushi.
