I went for a tasting for my daughter's wedding, The chef, Ron Leider, went over the top to ensure us the reception will be a success. The food was delicious. Presentation Superb.. Ron started out with the Tomato basil alfredo, the best I ever encountered. He then served the bacon=bbq wrapped shrimp. and margarita appetizers, I was so impressed with its unique flavor. Next Caesar salad, crisp, fresh and the dressing was delicious. The entrees we chose for our guests Crabcakes and chicken encrused parmesian, roasted veggies. Again presentation at its best. Food was absolutely delicious. I can.t wait for my guests to enjoy Ron's creativity,

The salads as a starter were delicious, large portion with a lot of goodies in them (walnuts, blue cheese, dried cranberries) that two people shared. After waiting awhile for our food, it came out and the yellowfin tuna was still cold so they reheated it, which then over cooked it. The service was very attentive in general, and they even ended up taking it off the bill. Food in general was good for Sea Isle standards.

Have been to Mako's twice. Most importantly the food is terrific. On the 1st visit I had the crab-stuffed tilapia, topped with lobster sauce. it was the best meal I've ever had at the shore. my wife had the crab cakes which were also excellent...creamy, plenty of crab, and crisp on the outside. On the next visit we brought my adult daughter. She had the Tilapia, and agreed with my previous assessment. My wife went back to the crab cakes and was not disappointed as she frequently is when returning for a meal she loved. I had the Chicken breast topped with mozzarella, and drizzled with a balsamic vinegar. It was almost as good as the Tilapia. The balsamic reduction on our caprese salad was memorable. The service on both visits was excellent

Had dinner at Mako's for the first time and I was quite impressed. After being skeptical about a new restaurant in wife and I decided to give it a try. We hadn't realized this was a BYOB restaurant and we came empty handed. The man then offered us a complementary glass of sangria which was very kind. It was served in a cute little mason jar and my wife just loved it. We had a couple appetizers, one being the mussels served in a white wine sauce was the best I ever had. For dinner my wife had the crab cakes which had no fillers at all. When my wife wasn't looking I stole a bite and I have to say it too was the best I've had. For my dinner I had the "signature" dish, Blackened Mako. I never had a piece of fish like it. It was awesome!

This was our second time having dinner here, we were not impressed the first time, so we decided to wait about 5 weeks before trying again, hoping they improved. I felt their menu was very limited. Our garden salad lacked dressing, the chicken could not have been more bland. The servers ignored us and many other tables, never asked it our food was OK after bringing it, she handed us our dinner check and said you did not want desert did you? I was hoping this restaurant worked out their problems since our first visit, it absolutely has not. I can not see going back, there are many great restaurants in the area that we enjoy so much more.

Mako's has the worst ambience ever. Bare wood tables. Paper napkins wrapped around silverware. Extremely noisy. Our server was very polite, and accommodating. The menu is nice with a good selection. We shared an enormous spinach salad. When our salad plates were cleared we were told to keep our soiled knives and forks for our entrees. I really hate that! Entrees served piping hot were good. Not a romantic date place.

This was our first time there. The food was very good with a nice little twist with some of the sauces. I had the shrimp alfredo, a pretty standard dish, but it has a tasty balsamic reduction drizzle to give it more flavor with overwhelming the dish. The tuna appetizer was good also and was accompanied with seaweed salad. Delicious! One thing that could use improving is the ambiance. A few candles on the outside tables, perhaps some plants to block the view of the street, dimmer lighting inside. Not a big deal, but it's the little touches that make a big difference. We're looking forward to our next visit!

  • My Experience

    Dined on 8/7/2013
The food is very good. Everything is not. The room is 4 walls with a tile floor---and the tile floor has more personality than the employees. The hostess stand is located across the dining room and not obvious as you walk in. After navigating through diners and servers we were greeted by a male host with no smile, no energy, dead pan look and one of the most dull and boring welcomes I have ever experienced. The timing of the food was fine, the prices were normal and 2 window view fo Landis Avenue was nice. As there are quite a few BYOB's in Sea Isle--all with very good food, I am unlikely to return to Mako unless they develop an atmosphere, some personality and some ambience.

Good place for fish but they were out of their specialty Mako Shark. I had the Mako last week and came back for more. Disappointing they were out of their signature dish. Caesar salad had no taste, the Caprese salad was good. My son doesn't eat fish and asked for spaghetti Alfredo with Chicken and asked for the pasta ala Dente. The pasta was swimming in sauce and mushy. You couldn't find the chicken. It was like soup! We sent it back but we were done eating when they brought his food. They could have apologized, sent the manager over or offered a dessert on the house for the inconvenience. Stick with the fish dishes and go light on the sauce. Prices reasonable.

This restaurant opened this past April and since then, we have eaten there a number of times. Dinner is absolutely wonderful! The mussels are not to be missed as well as the tuna appetizer. The salmon is their signature dish and is delicious. We also go there for breakfast which is wonderful as well. The eggs Benedict are delicious and perfectly cooked. The thing we like most about this restaurant is that everything is cooked to order, comes out piping hot, having been made with the freshest of ingredients. Go there...you will not be disappointed!

Tried 4 appetizers and they all were severely challenged. The crab and artichoke dip was a few pieces of each drowning in a sea of cresm. The"flatbread" resembled a Lunchables pizza. And the seasame crusted ahi tuna was covered in a sauce that resembled the sweet and sour sauce you get in packets st Chinese restaurants. The wait staff seemed lovely and the ambiance was cute for a shoreplace, but we left to find somewhere else to eat.

There is not much to the decor at Mako and it is a small place. It's a bring your own bottle restaurant which we like and service was quite attentive since it wasn't very crowded. The food was quite good. We had the seared tuna and marghertiat flatbread as appetizers. The crab cake and salmon special for entrees were very nice and the chef visited afterwards to ensure everything was ok. This feels like a neighborhood gem restaurant that hasn't been discovered. This wouldn't be my top recommendation for kids.

This restaurant was a great find!!!!! Four of us shared the mussels appetizer which was perfect. Two had the house salad and two shared the spinach salad which was outstanding. For our entrees, three of us ordered the Mako and one ordered the Salmon. We ended with a light, delicious, tiramisu. When we return we will not change a thing except to bring more friends with us!!!!!!

The food and service were very good - one of the best at the shore! The decor is very casual with a shore town vibe. However, the noise level in the small restaurant was so loud you couldn't hear from one end of the table to the other and it was only a table for 6! I have heard the lunch is excellent and a much calmer atmosphere.

Nothing special or memorable about the food. Flatbread was made from a commercially produced Boboli type dough round. Crab cakes were meally and filled with bread crumbs. The filet medallions came slightly over cooked and the server never asked how rare or well done they should be prepared. The place is packed with tables to the point it is difficult to move or exit your seat. A typical seasonal place that attempts to pack people in over a short time frame to maximize profit from sub par food run by novices.

This little gem in Sea Isle is one of the best establishments at the Jersey shore. There is nothing not to like. The food is exceptional, being not only delicious, but creative, especially when you consider the boring choices offered at other shore restaurants. Not to be missed is the Salmon, the house specialty. Delicious! Also, the place has the BEST breakfast on the island, bar none. Service is friendly, the owners are great and the prices are very reasonable, especially by shore standards. EAT HERE, you will not be disappointed.

We had a family group of 9 eat at Mako in July. The restaurant had a verbal children's menu which was nice since we had 3 children with us. We had a variety of entrees and the consensus was the food was delicious. The blackened Mako was outstanding. This is a BYOB restaurant. This is a great addition to the Sea Isle area, which needed some updated bistro-style offerings. Great food (we had the Mako special and the lobster-stuffed tilapia, both of which were great, and the spinach-artichoke-crab dip, which was solid but unspectacular). The only downside was the small dining room that because they were busy was full and lively, but not so much that we couldn't hear each other. Overall, we're glad we visited and would definitely recommend it to our friends and family :-)

Friday night, 6:00pm in late June and we were the only people there when we arrived. As other tables came they were offered complimentary house sangria and given bread and dipping old (we were neither offered, nor given). Burger was ordered medium and came out so well done my wife left 2/3 of it as inedible. Fish tacos were missing the tzatziki (or "cucumber sauce" as the menu stated) and the fish was somewhere between fishy tasting and bland. Tacos also head lettuce, tomato and shredded "Mexican" cheese from a bag. Order "Margherita" flatbread app and it was just their bruschetta topping (diced tomatos, onions, garlic and balsamic with a little cheese). Even accounting this is "shore" cuisine I'd avoid this place at all costs.

Mako is a credible addition to the restaurant scene in Sea Isle. Nice ambience, local flavor to the place - owners are from Sea Isle, sister of one of the owners waited on us. Flatbread appetizers were wonderful. I tried the Mako Shark entre with some trepidation. I have always found shark to be tough. This was tough, but it was well flavored so overall it was ok. My wife had the salmon which was excellent. We will make Mako one of our regular Sea Isle dinner choices. Will also try it for lunch and breakfast.
