overall this was a perfect dining experience, beautiful sunset view of Bali Hai, great wine list & cocktails, excellent & creative sushi rolls, then very fresh fish for main course. Desserts were above average. Service was outstanding - attentive but not intrusive, prompt but not rushed so you have time to enjoy the food & surroundings. Staff tactfully seated noisy families away from couples - thank you!

we were seated off away from the busy entrance. A romantic Hawaiian floral arrangement graced the table. We could hear the waves crashing . We started with a champagne toast to my birthday . We also started with the yummy spinach salad which our server recommended we split I enjoyed salmon and my husband dined on ahi tuna. A delicious bread basket with a variety of butters was also provided . The eatery marked my day with a beautiful ice cream cake on shortbread with a chocolate topping We will return

What a terrible meal. 7 of us with 6 different dinners . The eggplant cannelloni was absolutely awful. All of the fish preparations were over cooked. The accompanying vegetables were so hard as to be near uncuttable. My signature dish of ravioli was mediocre at best. Hardly any distinctive flavor or taste. Simply an expensive disaster. Service was fine.

Another night in paradise. The food quality, and service at the Makana Terrace is definetely an extraordinary experience not to be missed while on the North Shore of Kauai. The chef and his kitchen's passion shine in every entrée. Service was held at the highest level throughout the meal, and the view is unmatched on the island. Thank you St Regis for retaining such a quality staff at every level. This resort restaurant should be a flag ship of standards for others.

This restaurant is outside with a beautiful view of Hanalei Bay and the mountains - at sunset, it is stunning. The menu has good variety and even the vegetarian in the group found several options. Several people had the filet and one had the lobster - everyone ended with clean plates. The price range is a bit high with the least expensive entre at $43. The service was very attentive and personalized. They offered small pours of the wine so we could make a decision. Definitely worthy for our celebration after a wonderful week on this enchanted isle.

Fabulous Hanalei Bay view, Sunset in Kauai, impeccably prepared Hawaiian seafood, just heavenly. Cocktails were imaginative with fresh ingredients. Service was exceptional, friendly even for such a posh spot. Scallops perfect! taro gnocci yummy! sauce perfect. rainbow roll MMMMMMM good. onaga on leek and corn what a great match, yum. Ahi perfectly seared . Complementary chocolate ganache for my hubby's birthday was icing on the cake, so to speak. Recommend this spot HIGHLY!!!

Gorgeous patio with amazing views! Unfortunately there were three tables of families with kids all around us on a Sun eve at 7 pm. Loud families with crying children and adoring grandmas did not lend to the food or the atmosphere. Left quickly before dessert....the bar is big draw for the sunset here....

View was amazing! The brunch buffet confirmed my distaste for buffets in general. The eggs Benedict had a nicely poached egg atop a very crunchy muffin that I could not cut with a knife. The potatoes au gratin were way undercooked and floating in separated butter and cream. I could not eat them. The bacon was nearly burned to a crisp and the mini waffles were like sponge cakes. My husband and son enjoyed the abundant sushi and sashimi which was very good quality but tasted as if it was out too long. $300 disappointment.

There is little that can beat the ambiance and view at Makana Terrace. The setting is just stunning. And amazingly, the food and service are great too. I had the watercress salad with pistachio crusted avocado followed by the filet mignon. The cress was a bit over dressed, but the avocado was melt in your mouth perfection. And the filet was cooked exactly right, tender, juicy and flavorful, which is sometimes a bit missing in that cut. My husband had the asparagus and truffle soup with the pork. Also really delicious. And it was all accompanied by an Amarone which was rich and fruity and structured with mature tannins. It was a wonderful accompaniment to our meal. And the Mac nut chocolate tart dessert was soo good!

The food was insulting with a filet mignon that tasted like a thin slice of salisbury steak and literally a can of pork'n'beans as the bottom part of the pork chop dish. The waitstaff seemed uninterested in our party of 2 table, but very interested in servicing the giant group next to us. Restaurant has a nice ambiance, which I can see will attract people, but really the food is horrible, which was made worse by the astronomical prices. I wish we would've just gone to Pono Market again in Kapaa and ate at home.

Everything was exceptional, waiter was very good, took our photo and talked with us for a while- nice and friendly. And the sunset view, I can't even explain, you need to see it for yourself. That was one of the top 3 sunsets of my life.

Unfortunately, another not-so-great meal here and with the prices they charge it should be nothing less then fantastic. My kale salad was extremely salty and barely edible. Our creme brûlée was under cooked and was runny. It was Bloody Mary week because apparently the Bloody Mary was created at a St. Regis years ago. The Bloody Mary was $15 and very below average. They do have a great view so, if anything, we might go to the bar upstairs for drinks and appetizers but we won't be returning to Makena Terrace after another below par experience.

The view is the best thing about this restaurant. The food is fair - there are much better restaurants in town, but for the view and incredible sunsets, Makana Terrace can't be beat. Also, we found the service to be fine, but definitely not first class caliber. I suppose I expected a little more care and attention than what we received, especially considering the prices. The bartender at the bar, however, was excellent. He was friendly, but not overly so, and indulged our request for photos with genuine enthusiasm and kindness.

We went here for my daughter's 32nd birthday and we don't know how we can ever top it unless we return again. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We have dined at Makana Terrace many times over the past 15 years. We love the view of Hanalei bay and mountains. Sunsets are divine. On this occasion it was our last night on a trip to Kauai. My wife and I had Vodka martinis (Chopin potato), slightly dirty with blue cheese olives. The Bartender really delivered. They were perfect. Our daughter had a Pina Colada. My wife and I started the meal with Caesar salads, our daughter had the seared scallops appetizer. For out entrees we had sushi rolls. My wife and I had the Prince roll and our daughter had the Makana roll. Good flavors and textures. We were too full for dessert. We'll be back on our next Kauai vacation.

The food is great without the world class view. The View is one of the best in the world without the great food. So you have both here. Enjoy. Brunch has sashimi , sushi, omelets, Prime rib, Ham, Salmon, extensive deserts. Light on bread items. The day I was there they just added unlimited mimosa's (orange, passion fruit or pineapple)

We ate here for our 40th Anniversary. We had asked ( several times) to be seated with a view of the water. What we got was a partial look at water but mainly the roof of one of their guest buildings. This even though there were other tables. The service was sooty as we sat a very long time before anyone came over and even then it was long waits between water, drink order and waitress. When the food did arrive it was mediocre at best. The seafood lagsana lacked seafood and the Ahi bland. Not god for a special occasion dinner costing almost $200.

Our salads, sushi, sashimi and desserts were all excellent, and the setting looking out over Hanalei Bay is absolutely gorgeous. (We have learned not to order entrees when we go out to dinner, as the amounts are always too much.) The cocktails were good but perhaps a bit uninspired in comparison with the Kauai Grill (also in the St. Regis).

We surprised our kids with a Kauai beach wedding at the St. Regis and because we wanted to be outside, we selected the Makana Terrace for our small dinner party. It was a perfect setting and the food was really wonderful. I had the Blue Cheese NY Strip and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had - flavorful and cooked just right. The lobster whipped potatoes were equally delicious. Others had the lamb chops and Mahi-Mahi and they enjoyed those as well. We returned the next morning for breakfast and were again pleased -- the signature Aloha Mary with tiny sea asparagus garnish is terrific! While service was a bit slow at both seatings, it's really hard to complain about that since everything else was so lovely.

If you are on Kauai you must go here! Perhaps the most beautiful view from a terrace restaurant on earth. The terrace looks out on the west view toward Hanalei Bay and the mountains. Stunning does not do it justice. Add to that the service and wonderful sophisticated food and you have an amazing piece of paradise. We liked it better than Kauai Grill and the view and setting transformed and lifted our entire party. A double rainbow appeared right on cue to complete the magic. Great setting for a family gathering for our mother's 75th birthday celebration....
