Diner Reviews
  • "Convenient to the theater district. Good menu selection for teenagers and parents. Food was excellent and service was very good. Tables are very close together but you're not elbowing everybody. Closeness is typical for NYC. Prices were very reasonable for the menu. Was able to be seated on time in relation to reservation time. Had dinner and dessert with plenty of time to walk to the evening theatre."

  • "Nice French Bistro ambience and very well executed French bistro food."

  • "Nothing special here except convenient location and acceptable breakfast. It's a place I like to go in summer and sit outside. After 9 on weekdays it's deserted and quiet, so you can sit and talk as long as you want."

  • "Maison is a reasonably priced (for New York) French bistro. It's perfect for a pre-theater dinner especially for a show in the northern part of the theater district. Mussels are the speciality and nicely done in a variety of ways. Does not feel factory-like as many theater district restaurants do."

  • "Was a great surprise for my wife on (or the day after since we both had off) Valentine's Day. Started off at 5:30 to a mostly empty and quiet place, by the time we left there was not a seat left in the house, yet the noise level never became an issue. The seats are a little packed together but everything else more than makes up for it. Incredible food, we did the prix fixe menu and it all came out perfectly and just the right amounts. Service was great and we got out with plenty of time until out show, which was only a block away. Great spot."

  • "Wonderful place for those new to the city. Our waiter was wonderful and left us to enjoy our evening and conversation with no hassle. Our food could not have been better."

  • "Was seated right away, even though my whole party hadn't yet arrived. All staff (hostess, waiter, bus staff and manager) were friendly and helpful. Food was good but too greasy (esp. fries and bread on Croque Monsieur)."

  • "we had a nice dinner after a Broadway show, and we were happy with the Service. Nice Place for a casual dinner, right priced and I would visit again!"

  • "Hard to find a place for an early lunch that isn't fast food or just a cafe. This is more than a notch above that and serves lunch starting at 11:30 AM and breakfast before that. Nice for a business lunch or to meet friends."

  • "Always a pleasure. Service, presentation and food quality consistantly top notch. A delightful culinary oasis on 7th Avenue."

  • "It was my first time dining at Maison. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It is a wonderful New York restaurant with old world New York ambience but a contemporary feel as well. The food was great. I will definitely go back soon!"

  • "We had a great meal and very pleasant experience at Maison. So happy we found it! My mom had a broken leg so we needed a spot near the theater where we were seeing Cinderella. But We would fine here again no matter what show we see next. Thoughtful and pleasant service and good food!"

  • "We decided to eat here because it was my friend's birthday (she's French) and we were going to go to a nearby show (matinee) afterwards. The service (including the host) made it a perfect day! The food was great and the price was right. It was enjoyable watch the rain/sleet/snow out the window."

  • "The food was very good and came out quickly after we ordered. Went there for breakfast. Service was great. Prices were very reasonable especially for new york. The restaurant is small. But all new york restaurants are. I would go again."

  • "The restaurant was a very pleasant surprise! The food on the Prix fix was very good. The wine list was also good. The waitress was very helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. We were not rushed and the food came out on a timely fashion. I plan on going back.."

  • "My salad Maison was not great - lettuce not that fresh, tasteless dressing and the chicken was super salty and reheated. The bread was good. I booked a table on Open Table and they didn't have the reservation. It's just ok in my opinion."

  • "Went for a group birthday dinner and birthday brunch. Raviolli was good, chicken was quite dry. Deniz our waitress was absolutely wonderful! Brunch food was delicious as well. I'm very pleased and they made my birthday enjoyable and hassle free."

  • "We came upon this little jewel on a rainy day when looking for a place for breakfast. It felt like we were in a cafe in Paris. We came back a few weeks later and had Sunday brunch prior to going to see Cinderella right across the street (you can only go to Ellen's Stardust so many times!). The service was friendly and warm. We were a party of 6 and everyone felt catered to. Four of us had the onion soup and all agreed that it was the best we ever had. We also ordered the burger and crab cakes. Everything was delicious. Everyone is still talking about what a special little place we found."

  • "Really liked the decor. Thought the big outside patio would be great in the summer. Food was very tasty. Portions good. My only complaints were that the food was warm, not hot, as well as the coffee. And my beer wasn't cold. May seem like a little thing, but hey. Who wants "cool" beer or "warm" coffee?"

  • "I have lived in NYC for 14 years. Food for non pre-theatre dinner is decent, but not spectacular. The calamari appetizer could be improved. The mussels au Provencale was decent with a generous portion appropriate for the price. Restaurant was cramped which is typical NYC, so don't expect anything less (for all those who are not from NYC) - I did not. I made reservations in advance and had to wait 5 minutes for the table after I arrived on time. Hostess was friendly. Our waitress was less knowledgeable than the one for the table next to us, but perhaps she was new. If you just expect bistro dining and not fine dining, this restaurant will be a reasonable choice for the area, which has many tourist traps."

  • "We eat at Maison atleast 6 or 7 times a year. Before Carnegie Hall and before other theatre district visits. The mussels w/ pomme frites are a wonderful treat and quite inexpensive for the area. Reservations are always warranted and we are always greated with a smile and a thank you. We keep going back!"

  • "Small portions of fair but not really good quality. The waiter was very good, but the food, crowdedness even for New York and the noise were too much for enjoyment"

  • "On our recent trip to New York, I was very excited about dining at a reasonable French restaurant. I booked our reservation with high hopes. Unfortunately Maison didn't deliver. My son and I shared the Roasted Chicken and it was overlooked and the ratatouille and mashed potatoes lacked flavor. I had their house salad which was nice. We shared the cheese plate with some friends but the cheese was not what I had experienced in France. One bright point was the Creme Brûlée,MIT was exceptional!"

  • "Good french fare, especially the chicken mornay crepes. Surprisingly, a good burger. Nice wine list and good service.. In the warmer weather, the tables outside are a nice plus, especially for the neighborhood."

  • "Nice restaurant in theater district - very close to Cinderalla. Ordered a delicious savory crepe, tasty coffee and exquisite dessert. Our waiter, David, was very helpful and a delight. Will definitely return."

  • "Uninspired food that lacks imagination or fresh ingredients. OK for a pre-theater lunch but otherwise you can do better."

  • "We dined here before going to see a show at Radio City Music Hall. The staff is wonderful, friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. We were a party of six, but our food came promptly and was delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we will definitely return in the future!"

  • "Maison is unexpected, an ersatz French bistro in the base of a mid-century Manhattan office tower, but there is nothing artificial about the food or the way the restaurant is run. Traditional bistro fare, raw bar and daily specials are virtually identical to what could be found a few blocks from the Seine, here a few blocks from the Hudson. The only things missing, which would be a great addition to complete the authenticity of the food and experience, would be to add clams and bulot (whelks) to the raw bar and to offer a decent house wine by the carafe."

  • "Had reservations for 2 at 12:00 for lunch and there were plenty of tables open and they sat us next to an entrance door. Cold blast of wind every time some one walked in. It didn't appear that they have the prix fixe lunch, or we were advised of it by our waitress. The food was fine but nothing exciting or exceptional. The food did come out very quickly, which left us to wonder if it was pre-made and simply plated and sent to the table. Overall it was fine. They have a patio that would probably be very inviting in warmer weather."

  • "This was my first visit to Maison and it was very nice. It's close to the theatre district yet away from the tourist area. The ambience is typical French bistro, warm and cozy. Service was terrific and good was very good! I would definitely return!"

  • "This restaurant lived up to expectations. I booked it through open table for a dinner with my family in New York City for the evening. We were looking for a French/Italian restaurant, and decided to try Maison based on the reviews. The service was great, very quick, and the servers were extremely attentive. The food was delicious, and came quickly. Good portion sizes, great appetizers, and an extensive wine list that was either by the glass, half bottle, or full bottle, making it very easy for any size party to get the amount of wine they needed. The hostess and owner were very friendly, and checked in constantly to make sure our food was satisfying, and the service was exceptional. Somewhat pricey, but worth it."

  • "Enjoyed a nice brunch with two friends on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Maison. We had theater tickets and were a little pressed for time, but the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. My asparagus, brie, and mushroom omelet was tasty. I loved the decor. The noise level was a little too high, though. I would definitely recommend La Maison."

  • "Loved the food and the location of Maison. When we added 2 people to our group of 12- the restaurant immediately brought up another little table. The crepes were delicious."
