A word from Maison - Lancaster
An intimate, farm driven, urban cookery.

In its most simple form, we are in the business of feeding people. A business that we love and take a great deal of pride in and an act at the core of what it is to be human. To us, there is nothing more satisfying that inviting you: our friends, family, farmers and neighbors into our home, nourishing you with soul satisfying food and allowing you to escape the rigors of daily life…if just for a short time.

To us passion, hard work and love all fall into the same category. We have taken the dichotomy of "work life' and 'real life' and distilled them into one—we live above the restaurant. The people we know and love are all around us, we share our home with them and couldn't be happier about it.

  • "Great farm to table experience in an intimate environment. Service was impeccable. No matter when I've gone, the burrata dish is a must. "

  • "One of the best "farm to table" restaurants I have had the pleasure to eat in. My family and had enjoyed sharing the interesting choices.Notable ones were the Buratta, clams, risotto, pork, and Lemon curd. Of you go please know this is a BYOB restaurant. Luckily I found out just before we set out for the evening! Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. "

  • "The food is unique and outstanding. The Burrata appetizer melted in the mouth and the Prawns and risotto were delicious. My husband had the cornish hen canneloni and raved. "

  • "The menu was great. The heirloom lettuce salad we had was very fresh. But the main courses (Prawns and Cobia) seemed to be heavy on the salt. I think this really took what could have been an excellent dining experience and made it just good. "

  • "Amazing food, great service and most of all - great memories! This restaurant is where my fiancé took me after he proposed and he couldn't have picked a better spot. They assisted him in arranging a beautiful chef's tasting where every course just kept getting better. We have some dietary restrictions and they were more than happy to accommodate them. Can't say enough good things, but we will definitely be back!"

  • "Wow. There's nobody in the world who does a better job with prawns than Taylor Mason. Two years running .... The prawns are simply incredible. Tartine of wild mushrooms with a duck egg!!!! Knocked my socks off. I could eat that every night. As usual, service was great, good was in another league, and we had a great time."

  • "Tiny restaurant with extraordinarily high level of cuisine. We had the chef's table - high chairs at the bar looking into the ktichen, so we had the opportunity to watch the two main chefs work their magic."

  • "The menu at Ma(i)son had many unique items that will excite the foodie of your group, and there are also a few familiar items for the pickier eater. Everything is extremely fresh and seasonal. The ambiance is quiet and romantic, and it has a upscale rustic vibe. I am definitely going back! Don't forget to BYOB."

  • "This place has it all! The size is perfect, the service is fine, no wine list so bring your own, and the food is outstanding! French and Italian inspired with a new American twist! When we are visiting from NYC, this will on the agenda!"

  • "This is one of our top five in all of central Pa. Everything from start to finish was amazing... Mahi was quite possibly the best I have ever. Had one of their chicken dishes one time and it was outstanding. I never knew that chicken could taste that good..."

  • "The food here is always interesting, and they have the chef to pull it off! Everything I've ever had here was delicious!"

  • "Small, loud, uncomfortable, dingy, cheap tableware, limited menu and expensive made for a very negative dining experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone."

  • "I have dined here several times and continue to be blown away each time! It is very refreshing to be able to get real homemade creative and delicious food in such a unique space. If you have a food allergy or certain restrictions in your diet, no worries. Maison is very accommodating and will come up with something wonderful that will suit you. Their food is incredible and so is their staff! By far my current favorite restaurant in Lancaster City!"

  • "The menu is creative. The food is scrumptious. The servers are very engaging. BYOB. This is a dining experience unmatched in Central Pennsylvania. A lot of awesome food comes out of that tiny, spotless kitchen."

  • "I've been to Maison several times and never had a bad meal. Everything is always, fresh, unique, and delicious and the menu is constantly changing. One of my favorite restaurants in Lancaster."

  • "What a Gem. The menu was fabulous and is always changing. It is a small restaurant which creates a comfortable, relaxed feeling. So happy they are part of Open Table for reservations. Will visit again soon."

  • "Menu is basically the daily specials and those choices have been limited on my last few visits. Heavy on pork dishes and the chef is found of braised then chopped entrees. Not always my favorite. Salad selections are usually terrific. The restaurant is a step away from excellent."

  • "The food we had at Maison Lancaster was exceptional. Very fresh, well prepared, great flavors. The service was there when needed. The space is small, which is perfect for a smaller group and for keeping the noise level down. Our entire experience was top-notch. Sadly, we were only visiting Lancaster, and I wish we had Maison in our city. But we will be back on our next visit."

  • "This was our first visit to Maison and we had an excellent experience. The food was well described and presented by our server. Speaking to those dining around us, everyone was pleased with what they had ordered. So, we were not alone in our praise of the meal. Even though we boxed some of our main course to take home, we saved just a little room for dessert and that also was a treat. Being BYOB was a plus as we could bring along a favorite bottle of wine. We will definitely return."

  • "The most incredible meal we have had in a long time. Wonderful flavor combinations. Wish we had more time to go back and try the rest of the menu."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "Excellent food as always. Menu is rather limited but adequate. Tables for two are a bit too close together as you can literally hear everything the couple next to you is saying. Wait staff is excellent and BYOB makes it very a very reasonable option when one takes into account the quality of the food. We will continue to return to one if our Lancaster favorites."

  • "Definitely a place you can count on! Delivers a quality experience every single time!"

  • "We loved the ambiance, the chillout/lounge music, the service, and the bread. The appetizers were pretty good, but both of our dinners were so heavy on the Salt that you couldn't taste distinct flavors of the dishes."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "First, I loved the decor. The tables are close & cozy. The servers, Nate & Christian, did a phenomenal job. All the food was just a little off. We started with oysters. They were served with pickled ramps. Very odd combination. Extremely overpriced & now I understand why it was the one menu item without a price listed. Next we tried the foie gras & chicken liver mousse. The chicken liver was very overpowering & didn't marry well w the foie gras. Entrees consisted of Cornish Game Hen & Beef Cheeks with polenta and leeks. The hen had toasted bread crumbs that was just a weird consistency. The Beef was very tender but bland. The dessert chocolate selection was mediocre & not worth $15. Overall, we were disappointed & will not return."

  • "We felt rushed the minute we arrived. We had a party for 4 and they had us at a small table. When we tried to move the table a few inches to get into our seats, a waiter told us quite abruptly to not move the table because they all were mapped out for a specific spot. The food was mediocre and very over priced for what we got. It's a quaint place with a lot of potential but this was our second time there and we will probably not return."

  • "Fantastic seasonal dishes creatively prepared. The beef cheeks I had were melt in your mouth delicious. Service was warm and friendly in a relaxed atmosphere. It is also BYOB which I love. Only downside is that the place is somewhat cramped and can be loud."

  • "It started out odd: we stood at the door unacknowledged for minutes. Then we were offered a seat at "the chef's table" "in the back" which was "a little more private." It was the bar facing the kitchen. Two waiters were serving. Each of them attempted to get us wine glasses, tell us what menu item they were missing, etc. Then it became much more pleasant. We got our wine glasses. We ordered the burrata which was served with delicious oily, crunchy bread, prosciutto and sorrel leaves. They brought us extra bread without asking. The beef cheeks were succulent and not over-salted. The pasta was al dente. We were checked at appropriate intervals but largely left alone. We stayed for coffee and desert."

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday and it was awesome. Only wish would be if they had a fish option but due to menu changing daily and locally sourced I can see why this would be tough. Still highly recommend. BYOB!"

  • "Went for the first time on a Friday night. Food was fantastic, loved the country bread, had the rosemary olive oil cake for dessert, was excellent almost on the savory side, but that's was unique and great about it.....only thing I would of like to have seen was an ice cream or a whip of some kind with the dessert, that would still keep the flavors of the cake but simply add some creaminess to the plate. Service was great, was only disappointed at not being asked if we wanted coffee with dessert, then was even more disappointed in seeing other tables enjoy French press coffee, which happens to be my favorite . Feel the wait staff dropped the ball on that one. Overall, my fav place in Lancaster so far...will return on future visits. :)"

  • "Maison is a lovely neighborhood farm to table restaurant - even in the relatively barren winter months. The kitchen continues to build dishes around local products, but fills them out with non-seasonal products. Our two salads were outstanding - the warm bacon dressing on the lyonnaise salad tempering the bitter edge to the frisee, and the blood orange sections in the winter lettuce salad harmonizing with the bits of ricotta salata and pistachios. The main dish of braised oxtail on polenta and kale, topped with smoked mozzarella, was rich and satisfying, perfect for a cold winter day. The ambiance is farmhouse casual and cozy, and BYO makes this an affordable treat."

  • "I think dinner at Maison was the best meal I've had in the area in years. I love central PA and enjoy good restaurants here regularly, but Maison stood out. The staff was accommodating and thoughtful and made us feel comfortable, and the food was stunning. Over a week later, I am still thinking fondly of the Cornish game hen over wheat berries, with pomegranate seeds and baby carrots. Perfectly tender, with a subtle crisp on the outside, the meat matched perfectly with the texture of the wheat and pomegranate. Dessert drizzled with local honey was amazing as well. The atmosphere was cozy and quiet. I look forward to my next visit."
