A word from Maison - Lancaster
An intimate, farm driven, urban cookery.

In its most simple form, we are in the business of feeding people. A business that we love and take a great deal of pride in and an act at the core of what it is to be human. To us, there is nothing more satisfying that inviting you: our friends, family, farmers and neighbors into our home, nourishing you with soul satisfying food and allowing you to escape the rigors of daily life…if just for a short time.

To us passion, hard work and love all fall into the same category. We have taken the dichotomy of "work life' and 'real life' and distilled them into one—we live above the restaurant. The people we know and love are all around us, we share our home with them and couldn't be happier about it.

We love going to Ma(i)son! The flavors are always a wonderful combination. We are never disappointed in the food, service or overall experience! We are pushed beyond our normal choices with their menu choice and love our selections every time! Last night I could almost taste the warmth of fall in my gnocchi! My husband's scallops had such a amazing sear and crusted flavor that we argued which was better!

The 1st time we went to Mai'son we found the food excellent & interesting. This 3rd time the food was okay and menu selection for entrees was not all that appealing to some in our party of 6. We would have appreciated more attentive service. The place is small so the wait staff should check on the diners more often. And the noise level was dreadful. We couldn't hear each other at our table. Don't recall that problem the 1st time. We would recommend the restaurant with reservations based on this last experience.

At my most recent visit, the Italian notes that were background in my previous meals were up front - a fabulous addition to this already outstanding restaurant. The homemade burrata came with a light slow-cooked proscuitto dressing that put the already fabulous appetizer over the top. My husband's tomato panzella was a delicious complement - I highly recommend this appetizer pairing! My pasta entrée was amazing - the wild mushroom gnocchi was a fabulous contrast of woodsy mushrooms, creamy sauce flavored with a hint of truffles, and soft (but not dissolvingly so) pasta. My husband's playful pork sausage was also outstanding, with a nice bright finish courtesy of the tomato sides. Fabulous food, knowledgable servers - and still BYO!

Sadly was disappointed. Menu on blackboard on the wall. As the restaurant is narrow, you have to stand to read the menu which is very "busy" thus hard to read. Requested and received the "quietest" table in the restaurant but it was VERY noisy! the Cauliflower was tough and difficult to eat. The Scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly but the combination of vegetables and seasonings were not to my liking. Dessert was very good. I expected so much more as it has received 5 stars in most everything.

I can not say enough about this restaurant or write enough reviews. If you want the best food in Lancaster, look no further. This is a foodies dream. The menu is limited (5-6 appetizers and 4 entrees), but what they do, they do amazing. They are more than willing to accommodate within what they have in the pantry. I am a vegan and I bring my friend who also eats vegan with me. There is nothing on menu, but just ask the waiter. We always get 2 different appetizers and 2 different entrees. They mix it up every time we go and we have never had the same meal twice. That is saying a lot since we are here at least once every 7-10 days. I would eat here every night if I could. They are only open Wed-Sat which is a shame.

As always, the food and service at Maison were spot on. Portions are just right to not leave feeling bloated, though I always wish I could order everything on the menu. I've never had the same dish (due to the seasonal rotation) and I've never had a bad one. Just be aware that in the smaller space, the noise level can rise rapidly if there are one or two large groups (>4) dining simultaneously.

The service was friendly, helpful, attentive, but not too frequent. Well done! The squash appetizer was awesome - the lyonnaise salad as well. My pork sausage was a little under-done which I'm ok with, but the bean and apple base was too salty, the beans not quite done, and way too many adorned the plate whereas I wished there were a few more apples instead. It was still good, but since my previous dining experiences to Maison were outstanding and interesting, I left feeling a little flat.

This place continues to amaze me. I can not give this restaurant more stars, but they are worth 10. The are extremely imaginative and flexible. I am a vegan and the chef goes back in the kitchen and comes out with amazing dishes off the menu. I came with a friend and we both ordered vegan. We got 2 different appetizers and 2 different entries. All 4 dishes were completely different and complex. This is my all time favorite restaurant. Kudos to the chef and staff. This is the real deal. The chef likes to flex his culinary muscles and does it with perfection.

we had a bad experience. our first course was good but the entre for both of us was so intense with salt that we could not finish them. we should have spoken up at the first taste but we did not. also we received only a "I will tell the chef". something else should have been offered which we could have accepted or refused

I have been here 1/2 dozen times and am never disappointed. The chef is very imaginative. The menu is limited, but don't let that put you off. Everything on the menu is perfectly prepared, so just pick something and you won't be disappointed. I am a vegan and the chef always amazes me. I brought some friends the other night and we all decided to order vegan, though there is nothing on the menu. The chef surprised us with 3 different vegan entree all differently prepared. Each one better than the next. Of course we split them all. You have to try this place. It is now my all time favorite place in Lancaster to eat.

The two of us enjoyed a memorable meal at Ma(i)son on a Friday evening. The two wait staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the menu-- clearly they enjoy their work and are enthusiastic about the local-farm-fresh mission of this place. My tomatoes on toast had a lovely bacon-flavored dressing -- enough bacon taste to enjoy but not overmuch -- and very tasty (some sweet) heirlooms. The duck ravioli was superb-- the duck jus was rich, with a textured flavor. My fiancé enjoyed his salad Lyonnais and summer sausage meal. The desserts were good. We sat by the open front French windows -- wonderful weather that evening and lots of street bustle, all not as loud as a previous visit but nevertheless not a quiet place. Try it.

The small bistro creates the finest in farm to table cuisine. This no ordinary eatery. Every dish has that special combination of complex ingredients that only a master chef can devise while at the same time providing you with a flavor essence that lingers after every mouthful. As you would expect with a farm fed restaurant, the menu changes seasonally and even daily so when looking at the menu on line, think of it as being indicative. Rest assured though, whatever your culinary preference (veg, meat, foul, fish, pasta) you won't be disappointed.

We'd eaten here once before in the winter, and while the food we had that first time was good, the vegetarian offerings were a bit sparse, and - above all - the noise level made it impossible to carry on a conversation. Fast forward to second visit. It was a warm summer evening, so we were seated right next to the small open terrace - delightful! It was open, the noise level was not an issue. The menu changes seasonally and often, this time with many creative and most delicious vegetarian options, always using the freshest local ingredients. We enjoyed every single scrumptious bite. Our young server was charming, and contrary to other reviews I've read, our dishes arrived in a most timely (not too fast, not too slow) manner. Super!

We chatted with the people around us making the experience even more lively ... like having people over in your own dining room without having to do the cooking! We did not realize it was byob so we were drinking water only with our meal. We both had Tuna amd it lacked flavor. The suave overpowered the meat. We were sat right in front of the menu so people were standing behind me reading it overy shoulder. Also people were taking pictures of the menu to take back to the table and my wife was looking right not everyone phone lenses and flash. Would eat there again but would asked to be seated away from the menu not right in front of it. It is uncomfortable having people hovering over your table amd snapping photos while standing at out table.

We are big fans of Maison. We both had hectic days and decided to go out at the last minute and were able to get a table. There were few people when we arrived but the restaurant soon filled up. There was only, however, one server (who was great) who could only do so much for everyone. And the food -- which also was wonderful -- took a long time to come out for everyone. We were there an hour before our dinner arrived. While that worked for us on this particular evening, it would have been difficult on others. This has not happened to us before. Otherwise, another wonderful time at Maison.

Not sure what to have expected....heard great things about the place. Very small, great food, reservations, casual dress, high prices, no alcohol. Doesn't quite make a great combination. I guess I'm "old school" thinking if you drop 100 bucks for diner, you should be dressed in something other than jeans. Both of us had the Tuna, fantastic. was seated at the"chefs table", which was facing the cooks. Which would have been a great experience, if I was not a former chef, myself. I seen several things that I paid particular attention to.

This is an overrated restaurant where the food was okay and the atmosphere excessively noisey. Their offering was basically 4 salads all at $14 and 4 entrees that ranged from $26-$28. The food was ok but in my opinion overpriced and the value received for the expense just not worth it. We dine out quite often and are use to paying top prices but for even for Lancaster (and considering the noise level so high that we couldn't hear each other across the table) it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't go there again which is the bottom line
