In its most simple form, we are in the business of feeding people. A business that we love and take a great deal of pride in and an act at the core of what it is to be human.To us, there is nothing more satisfying that inviting you: our friends, family, farmers and neighbors into our home, nourishing you with soul satisfying food and allowing you to escape the rigors of daily life…if just for a short time.

To us passion, hard work and love all fall into the same category. We have taken the dichotomy of "work life' and 'real life' and distilled them into one—we live above the restaurant. The people we know and love are all around us, we share our home with them and couldn't be happier about it.

  • "We'd eaten here once before in the winter, and while the food we had that first time was good, the vegetarian offerings were a bit sparse, and - above all - the noise level made it impossible to carry on a conversation. Fast forward to second visit. It was a warm summer evening, so we were seated right next to the small open terrace - delightful! It was open, the noise level was not an issue. The menu changes seasonally and often, this time with many creative and most delicious vegetarian options, always using the freshest local ingredients. We enjoyed every single scrumptious bite. Our young server was charming, and contrary to other reviews I've read, our dishes arrived in a most timely (not too fast, not too slow) manner. Super!"

  • "Last Friday, we had a wonderful time enjoying Taylor's new creations. His dishes, especially sauces, are fantastic. Where else can you bring your favorite wine to complement delicious food as well as meet new people and enjoy a beautiful night in the city! We chatted with the people around us making the experience even more lively ... like having people over in your own dining room without having to do the cooking! The menu changes, so that you can go more often and try new things! Great job and thanks to everyone at Ma(i)son! Delicious! :)"

  • "We did not realize it was byob so we were drinking water only with our meal. We both had Tuna amd it lacked flavor. The suave overpowered the meat. We were sat right in front of the menu so people were standing behind me reading it overy shoulder. Also people were taking pictures of the menu to take back to the table and my wife was looking right not everyone phone lenses and flash. Would eat there again but would asked to be seated away from the menu not right in front of it. It is uncomfortable having people hovering over your table amd snapping photos while standing at out table."

  • "We are big fans of Maison. We both had hectic days and decided to go out at the last minute and were able to get a table. There were few people when we arrived but the restaurant soon filled up. There was only, however, one server (who was great) who could only do so much for everyone. And the food -- which also was wonderful -- took a long time to come out for everyone. We were there an hour before our dinner arrived. While that worked for us on this particular evening, it would have been difficult on others. This has not happened to us before. Otherwise, another wonderful time at Maison."

  • "Not sure what to have expected....heard great things about the place. Very small, great food, reservations, casual dress, high prices, no alcohol. Doesn't quite make a great combination. I guess I'm "old school" thinking if you drop 100 bucks for diner, you should be dressed in something other than jeans. Both of us had the Tuna, fantastic. was seated at the"chefs table", which was facing the cooks. Which would have been a great experience, if I was not a former chef, myself. I seen several things that I paid particular attention to."

  • "This is an overrated restaurant where the food was okay and the atmosphere excessively noisey. Their offering was basically 4 salads all at $14 and 4 entrees that ranged from $26-$28. The food was ok but in my opinion overpriced and the value received for the expense just not worth it. We dine out quite often and are use to paying top prices but for even for Lancaster (and considering the noise level so high that we couldn't hear each other across the table) it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't go there again which is the bottom line"

  • "It is so quaint and our expectations were based on recommendations from people we trust, but we failed to heed the negative that was consistent with all those who recommended Maison - service is slow. That was an understatement and the service was unacceptable. The wait staff was pleasant enough, but what can they do when the kitchen is only capable of serving the first floor dining room in a timely manner so go on a weekday night when they might not open the second floor dining room. While the food was good, except for the overuse of salt, it was overpriced for what it was and the pricing of the gnocchi was particularly egregious."

  • "This is a restaurant I would want to take back home to Bethesda! Seasonal food, exciting presentation, genius combination of produce, meats, favors...all delightful it does not matter that there was no wine bar, we enjoyed the food European style, with sparkling water. Service was phenomenal. This establishment should be rated as the best in Lancaster!"

In fact, my only 'complaint' about this restaurant is that there are too many good looking things on the menu to pick from! The friendliness of the the waiter and chefs, the peaceful calm atmosphere, and the amazing presentation/taste of every meal I've had there makes this my favorite place to eat in Lancaster by far."

  • "We snagged a parking space right out front, no fee after 6 pm. Brought along our bottle of wine. Had some sparkling water with, and nice appetizers, bread and butter, and delicious entrees. Shared a dessert. Wish it was easier to spur of the moment walk in and get a table. We've tried. We arranged this reservation about 9 days in advance, which is not usually our style. We have sat outside on the little veranda, and at the chef's table previously, and look forward to returning."

  • "The food was amazing, the atmosphere relaxed, and the service top-rate! They were very accommodating to my gluten free, dairy free meal - we had the pork belly and roasted chicken. They didn't have any desserts to fit my need, so made us a delicious cherry plate with nectarine honey and basil and gave it to us on the house! What a great find in Lancaster!! I wish they were closer to where we live in DC! Keep in mind that they are BYOB. So go down the street to Pour before or after for drinks!"

  • "I enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Maison on the evening of July 2. Even though I was dining alone, Christian, my waiter, made me feel very comfortable, meeting me as I arrived, and directing me right to my seat. Christian was very attention throughout, and the food was simply sumptuous!! The folks at Ma(i)son are obviously devoted to their craft, and they have developed a way to perfectly express their passion: combining beautiful and succulent, local ingredients into truly inspiring creations! Almost too pretty to eat -- almost! Overall, a fabulous experience! The weekends are doubtless very busy (as Christian alluded too), but the atmosphere on July 2 was perfect! Thank you Ma(I)son; I hope to return soon!"

  • "Both entrées my husband and I ordered were way too salty. Their entire menu was 8 items written on a chalk board. No mention anywhere about a corkage fee, but there it was on the bill. They did try to make amends by offering 1 dessert on the house."

  • "We love Maison and went there last week for our 27th anniversary. The weather was such that my husband could have taken his first solo flight in his ultralight, but he said hell no, we have a reservation at Maison. It didn't disappoint. We went for the apps -- Squd, fresh peas on toast, buratta, squash blossoms -- then shared a pork belly entre, and left happy. Service was lovely and personable as always."

  • "When we discovered Taylor Mason had a restaurant in the Lancaster area, we HAD to go. We've known Taylor since he attended preschool with our daughters, but lost track when he moved from our area. Ma(i)son was amazing. We sat at the chef's table which overlooks the kitchen, so we could watch the food being prepared and chat. The dishes all had great textures and wonderful blends of flavor. The Homemade Burrata with arugula pesto was a tasty start. The Crispy Local Chicken was crunchy on the outside and wonderfully moist inside - great texture contrast. Shaved vegetables made for a nice presentation. I loved the creaminess of the lemon risotto; its flavor complimenting the prawns perfectly! Well worth the price for a special dinner."

Tables too close for comfort. Request 4 top table on same side as kitchen for better experience. Took a very long time to be served entrees. Perhaps worth it for the food, but you've been warned."

  • "The food did not live up to the Craig LeBan review that we had read. Items on the menu, though local and fresh, were more of a winter fare than a summer one. The appetizers, the bruschetta and the Burrata, were by far the best items. Both were fresh, beautifully presented, and blended wonderful flavors. The chicken was tasty but a bit on the dry side, the pasta with sausage uninteresting, and the pork special was very fatty. My pork belly from the menu was by far the best dish, but I would have enjoyed it more in January. Local repeat diners were greeted warmly and their service was much better than ours. Overall, the prices were expensive for the quality of what we received."

  • "I am very much on the fence with this restaurant. Both the food and the service are very good. The menu is extremely limited. I understand the kitchen is small and there are limits to what they can do. However, I feel if they would cut out the pretense that accompanies a lot of their dishes, they could expand their menu. It's also extremely noisy in there, which is due, in part, to its size. Also, when I made the reservation I requested the outside table and was seated very far from the outside. My boyfriend likes this restaurant because it is BYOB. I hate it for that reason. His rationale is that he saves money not buying drinks. The prices more than makeup for that. Again, good food and good service."

  • "The restaurant is small, so we ended sitting at the chef's table which is a counter with two bar stools facing the the kitchen where the three busy chefs are working. At first it felt strange to sit with our backs to the dining area, but if you turn and face each other we were able to watch the chefs at work and also see out into the dining area. The food was excellent and the service was friendly as the wait staff explained the way the chefs were working and how the food was locally grown. I would recommend Maison to friends."

  • "Food and service was excellent. Menu is limited but there is a good variety, something for everyone. The pork belly was excellent and the shrimp risotto was very good but overpriced. The service met our very high expectations, pleasant, attentive and just how it should be. Unfortunately, it was a little loud at times since the sound travels in the restaurant and some people do speak and laugh loudly, can't complain when people are having a good time! Maybe a bit of fabric somewhere would help to absorb the noise. My husbands chair was very low and uncomfortable but the cushion on the sofa bench helped. Loved the decor. All in all we had a really good meal and loved that it was a BYO! "

  • "Once again Ma(i)son rocks the Lancaster food scene. Started with a shared Nettle Tart that was delicious (think perfectly seasoned spinach on puff pastry). Main courses: Crispy Chicken with various veggies, including seasonal ramps: superb; Prawns and Risotto with Meyer lemon, crème fraiche and herbs bursting with expertly balanced flavors. Of course the balance and marriage of flavors is a common theme in a menu that features uncommonly inventive and innovative ingredients. If you consider yourself a foodie, this restaurant needs to be on your radar! We shared the Butterscotch Custard for desert. Custard was just set (too many places overcook custard) and topped with just a bit of wonderful almond brittle. Ma(i)son gets better every time!"
