Diner Reviews
  • "We are new to the neighborhood and within walking distance to Maison Giraud. What a find this place was. We can't get enough. We eat there at least once every 2weeks. The kids get the steak and we work the specials. Wine list is modest but thorough. An overall delight"

  • "The best risotto of my life, and a delightful salad."

  • "Wait staff is not up to the same high quality of the food. However the overall experience and food and chill vibe is a nice experience when you just want to relax with fine food, no pressure to hurry up."

  • "This is my second time here and I have to say it was just as good the second time. The food was great, the waiter knew his stuff, the chef even made my son, who is a picky eater, a special plate that was delicious. If I had one knock this time, it was that it took a little long to get the food to the table...but once we got the food it was worth the wait. Definetly go back again."

  • "I love this place!! I keep coming back, and I catch myself craving Maison Giraud's delectable dishes. Great breakfast and dinner spot. The buttery croissants in the morning are the best anywhere, and their delicious egg dishes will really satisfy. Sunday is particularly happening, with the Farmers Market going on right alongside Maison's patio -- a perfect spot for people/celeb watching. At dinner, don't miss starting out with the French Onion soup or the Lobster Bisque, both superb, and the steak and chicken dishes always satisfy for an entree. The duck here is excellent, as well. Many great sides and appetizers round out a top notch menu, and the wine list goes deep. Great date spot, but also fun for groups. Enjoy this Palisades gem."

  • "Maison Giraud is a real gem. Highly recommended to Palisades folks, and everyone else."

  • "This was my first time at Maison and I have to say I was really impressed. I had the duck and it was beautifully done. One thing that I really appreciated was that it was the perfect amount of food on the plate. I'm sure there are people who want more, but for me I'm tired of plates overfilled with food. I didn't stuff myself and I had room for desert."

  • "This lovely French restaurant has one of the best chefs on the country and one of the best pastry chefs in the country as well. It's amazing to find this level of quality in a neighborhood eatery. We are very lucky."

  • "Everything well prepared. Steak, duck, coq au vin and the chocolate souffle were all terrific. Attentive service but not overbearing."

  • "This was our 3rd try at Maison Giraud and I really want to love this place. I recall the glory days of fabulous bistro fare at Anisette under Chef Giraud's direction . The chef's special, cassoulet, had fava beans that were undercooked and there were barely 2 bites of sausage and duck in the serving. The flavor was bland. In tasting my dinner-mates dishes, the salmon was average and the steak frites was only ok. The chocolate soufflé was delicious. It was also odd to be seated by the host and not given menus. After more than 5 minutes, we requested them along with beverages. Sorry to say, this place has struck out in our book."

  • "Great food but just too brightly lit for a comfortable dining experience. Tables a little stiff as well."

  • "The cooking was perfect in terms of preparation, doneness, ingredients, seasoning abd presentation. The desserts were original and light and not too sweet. Service was flawless. i make you want to come back and try the other dishes on the menu."

  • "As usual, we came here for my wife's birthday dinner. As usual, the food and drink was excellent. We like to sit outside with the heaters and I usually have the pistachio nougat glace for dessert. Wine pairing suggestions are always on the mark. We continue to love this place and are proud to have it in our Palisades community."

  • "Our last dinner was a huge disappointment. The food was unexceptional, not interesting and the service very slow."

  • "A small menu, but one that is well balanced and with perfectly prepared food. The portions are adequate, the wine list is fairly balanced, though the corkage fee at $20 is high for this type of restaurant. This is an excellent neighborhood type of restaurant with repeat clientele. It is quiet and relaxed, giving you the opportunity to have an enjoyable dinner with whom every you're with. Highly recommended."

  • "perhaps Sunday night isn't the night to visit Maison Giraud, but it was dead - few guests and a slightly depressing atmosphere. The wine list is small and average and the steak tartare was so salty it was almost inedible. The hit of the night was the choc. souffle. It was delish! All in all, we won't be back. There was no presence - no chef, no host, no one leading the show. the decor is a bit dismal. Perhaps this is a day time only place- the nocturnal fun vibe was not there."

  • "I've been a fan of Chef Giraud ever since he signed my menu at my 40th Birthday at Bastide in 2003. His menu then was a revelation. But this restaurant is by far his best finest expression of his love of food. Upon arriving, I felt instantly welcomed home. The service was fast, friendly, French, and incredibly helpful. The wine suggestions were spot on, but the true measure of dinner was the food, and it was glorious!!! We started with a handmade tart with melted rocchetta cheese and shaved prosciutto di Parma. WOW!!! OMG IT WAS PERFECT!!!! The amuse bouche of chicken liver mousse was beautiful and my loup de mer almost made me weep. This is the most wonderful food I have eaten in years!!!"

  • "The food is nice. It's a far cry from Anisette in every way. From the uninspired menu to the rather homely setting. Service is perfunctory and chilly. The Shelton Farms Chicken Catherine was a stand out. Mushroom Fettuccine was inexplicably dry and under seasoned and the Loup de Mer was well executed if slightly bland. All of this wouldn't have mattered so much if we hadn't been ridiculed by the chef who came out personally from the kitchen to not tell us where his rib eye came from. All he would say is that it wasn't organic and was Angus. I think he may have been sensitive to us asking, which was odd. I'd hope he'd be proud of everything coming out of his kitchen."

  • "The food was well prepared and very tasty. The chef/owner has many years experience in French cooking at other venues. We would definitely go back. Ambiance is quite casual but pleasant."

  • "Maison Giraud is so far above a typical local hang-out that you're surprised to feel so comfortable and at home while eating first rate Provencal cuisine on an ordinary street. It has one of the best pastry chefs in the country and Chef Alain Giraud is not only brilliant as a chef, but makes you feel welcome and valued. And the food is fabulous. The soups, the scallops, the Duck Confit when it's on the menu and the desserts are wonderful: creative but still accessible. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Pleasant experience. The complimentary pate and toast are excellent at dinner. Turbot was outstanding; duck so-so. Chocolate mousse was good"

  • "The ambiance at this bistro was pleasant with a very helpful waitstaff and a blessedly quiet experience. We could actually hear each other even though there were a few larger parties. The smoked salmon and caviar appetizer was fabulous and the fish that we both had was done perfectly. Portions aren't huge, but completely satisfying. The Tarte Tatin was excellent, and on Tuesdays the wines are half price with no corkage if you bring your own. Very relaxing. Definitely a place to go if you like fine food and the opportunity to actually chat with your tablemates."

  • "The food was always excellent here. The service used to be the worst in California - mesmerizingly incompetent and amateur. But all that has changed, thanks to proper management coming in. The menu choices are perfect, with farmers' market fresh vegetables, delicious fish dishes (excellent salmon tartare; fabulous scallops provencale); perfect steaks, and pasta. Delicious, and perfect-sized desserts. There is a new buzz about the place. This is the best restaurant in the Palisades by a country mile."

  • "lucky us...maison Giraud is a neighborhood hang for us. So lovely to sit outside on a warm summer evening. We felt like we were in provence. This is a masterful chef with great cred who is having great success with a moderately priced brasserie in Pacific Palisades. Love breakfast to the scent of freshly baked croissants and baguettes and a recent dinner was absolutely relaxed and charming"

  • "A French Bistro atmosphere, the servings are ample, especially the salads. The menu is small, but everything on it has been excellent, the Salmon Tartar is outstanding and different. The wine list isn't extensive, but it is well balanced and moderately priced, the corkage fee is $10. The bakery produces some of the best bread around. Highly recommended."
