A word from Maison Boulud
Maison Boulud Montréal offers the cuisine of a chef steeped in French tradition, yet inspired by decades spent cooking in New York City.
Daniel Boulud's menu is driven by the seasons and bounty of Québec's local purveyors. The result: refined yet soulful contemporary French food, prepared here by Executive Chef Riccardo Bertolino.
While situated in the Ritz-Carlton, the restaurant, its bar & lounge and two private dining rooms have a vibrant identity all their own. Maison Boulud enjoys a view over the historic hotel garden and year round glass enclosed winter garden. Daniel Boulud's welcoming spirit, the casually elegant tone and glimpses of a partly open kitchen keep the focus on the cuisine, making this a daily gathering place for wonderful food.

Diner Reviews
  • "Everything for our anniversary dinner was perfect. The Service was exceptional and the food was wonderful. My only criticism was that the portions for very small and the pricing was very high. We had 4 courses and we still left a little hungry, and our bill was over $ 600.00"

  • "This is the exact place where you want to go to celebrate something special, unless you can swing it on a regular basis, then by all means go for it! The ducks waddling about are adorable, the service attentive, the food delightful, and the drinks menu extensive. Totally worth all the pennies you can muster."

  • "I realize that this restaurant is rated in the Top 10 for Montreal restaurants, but personally, I've found much better fare in many restaurants in the Montreal area. This was my second visit to Maison Boulud. I wasn't wowed the first time, but decided to give the restaurant a second chance as it is so well regarded. It was probably our fault for not making our own decision regarding the wine choice, but we accepted the sommelier's recommendation, and really were disappointed with the wine that was served. The entrees were decent, but the main courses, two different lamb dishes, were both disappointing. Perhaps, we hit bad nights, or made wrong menu choices, but given the price level, I would expect there shouldn't be any bad choices."

  • "Beautiful setting and a varied and delicious brunch menu. We had a lovely table near the duck pond. The brunch format is lovely, with a choice of 2 or 3 courses. The dishes were well presented and delicious. Our main issue was with the service - I expect 5-star service at this type of establishment but it took a while for the waitress to come and take our order for a bottle of champagne and when we ordered a bottle of wine later on we waited 15 minutes before she came back to tell us they didn't have the bottle."

  • "Our dinner at Maison Boulud in Montreal was one of the best dining experiences my husband and I have ever had. The ambience was stunning, located in the lovely historic Ritz-Carleton; the service was impeccable, and the food was sensational. Each course was visually breathtaking and the flavors came together perfectly and disarmingly -- we savored each bite. This was a memorable and close to a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

  • "Maison Boulud is one of Montreal's 5 or 6 top table restaurants and, given the reputation of Daniel Boulud and it being the "house restaurant" of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, it must be evaluated in the context of that standard. The food was quite good, and the service, while reasonably acceptable, was not as expected. The waitress poured the wine-by-the-glass without offering for it to be tasted first, a side salad order was forgotten but then brought upon second request (and, to be fair, comped), and the overall level of attention and friendliness was acceptable but nowhere near a Michelin star-like standard. Net net, a quite good, though not great experience, one I might repeat somewhere down the road but probably not any time soon."

  • "We had the 5 course dinner with matching wines. The service was extraordinary and professional. Plating was professionally done, appetising with adequate portions. Overall good value for money and a great way to celebrate out 40th anniversary."

  • "This was our first time at Maison Boulud, but certainly not our last! We had breakfast in the garden, which was truly lovely. We tried the eggs benedict (fabulous!), pain perdu, pancakes with the most delectable rhubarb compote, freshly squeezed orange juice and a round of lattes. Everything we ordered was outstanding and service was top-notch. What a wonderful way to start the day!"

  • "5 stars restaurant, equal to the others in New York City (I have been to all of them), and in many ways better with less NY arrogance. Small improvement is needed in the service, I think with more experience it will show. I would have liked to be told that the terrasse was a possibility when I reserved (when weather is nice, it is a plus in the summer), when I arrived I was told to stay in the main room, small deception."

  • "The food was unquestionably excellent. Loved the beet salad. Lamb was outstanding. The ambiance was not at the same level. Tables for two too close together for private conversation for the most part. Wine list is world class but selection by the glass limited."

  • "Wonderful service and incredible food. The fresh pea soup was delicious. Don't miss the chocolate and caramel dessert. Just an overall perfect meal, similar to Gary Danko in San Francisco."

  • "Maison Boulud may be a part of the Ritz Carlton, but it sure has a cachet of its very own. We had brunch in the garden, and everything was simply delightful. The food and service were outstanding, even for Montreal standards. The garden is beautiful, with the waterscape and ducklings roaming around. Feels like escaping the city for a few hours and finding yourself at a luxury cottage in the Hamptons."

  • "we were visiting Montreal and this was one of the top rated restaurants in the city, so we made a reservation, however, we find the food very average, nothing special. Service overall is good, except it took longer than expected for the food to come out. I asked for my salad with no cheese but the waiter totally forgot. If you are going here in the summer try to reserved a table outside it is much better."

  • "This restaurant provides the quality and service chef Boulud offers in all his location. Without being Daniel, NY it is the next best thing. Great ambiançe and service and amazing food. Perfect for business lunch."

  • "Group of three for supper and both food and service was top notch."

  • "The lamb two ways was very good. The quail and tortellini was rich and satisfying. The foie gras was delicious. Apricots were an excellent detail. Desert was as advertised. The sommelier was patient/thoughtful and made a perfect choice. The outdoor eating in the interior courtyard was very pleasant. The value for money was what was as good as we have had in several years. We drove several hours to enjoy this restaurant and would make this a recommendation for any discernible eater with a need for a special evening out."

  • "Outstanding flood from amuse-bouche to dessert. Excellent wine list. Perfect service. Pricey but not unexpected for this level of food & service. The only criticism is the odd configuration of the tables in the main dining room. Ambiance is lacking there as a result. The veranda is great for lunch and breakfast but less so for dinner because the teak outdoor furniture is incongruous with elegant dining. "

  • "Great food and service, if you can afford it. Ask your somelier for suggestion. "

  • "The staff and decor are excellent. The food was just above average. Had the Risotto, way too much lemon. Had the veal, way too much salt. "

  • "Beautiful looking food and delicious too. Service was very attentive. Given the Chef's renown, I did expect a bit more. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed our meal and would certainly eat there again. I had the lamb 2 ways. The chop was delicious but the other way was a weird lamb shoulder crouquet that was very dry and very salty. The sorbets are sublime. If you are into cocktails, the bar is a bit limited as it is mostly centered on a wide selection of wines. I would rate this restaurant as very good."

  • "The food was very good. Also they recognized a birthday, very nice. The server did not get my drink request right the first time but it was corrected."

  • "We had the tasting menu and it was wonderful. Warning to those with food allergies - crab, nuts, cream, wheat - all served with the tasting menu yet no one at the restaurant asked if we had sensitivities/allergies. "

  • "Best meal, tasting menu out of this world and service was untouchable!!!"

  • "Underwhelming and overpriced. Didn't know how to make a martini. Charged us for 2 bottles of wine even though we only had one. Expect better for the price"

  • "As soon as you walk in you get a glimpse of the fire in the fireplace and you feel amazing by the beauty of this dining room, it is simply gorgeous. The service is a complete match as well as the menu. A place for champagne and celebration."

  • "I have followed the career of Daniel Balud over the years on a few documentary programs. Maison Balud lived up to my expectation. It is one of the best restaurants in the city. I have been to this restaurant twice and I chose the tasting menu the second time. Amazing creative the best I have ever had. I travel all over the world eating in the finest restaurants and I recommend this to all my business colleagues. It is not inexpensive. We had a bill around $1000 for 4 and we were moderate with alcohol with only 1 med priced bottle of wine."

  • "Fantastic restaurant and should be destination for anyone looking for fine dining. The 2 minor disappointments were that the rabbit had very little tast and that the cod was too salty. The maitre d's explanation that it is stored in brine was superfluous. Otherwise, excellent: lamb duo, fois gras, pineapple dessert etc. Always order the madelaine for the table. Those alone as worth 'the entry price'."

  • "My steak and fries, beet salad were very good..my friend'ssmoked herring, hamburger with short ribs and foie gras was raw, by the time it was returned , my meal was finished and she had been eating fries,so sh was no longer interested...the choc coulon was good and the Madeline's we're amazing, however 192.00 for brunch without great service is ridiculous ..the sffitel is 50.00 and has a far superior menu Regards, Heather Karakas"

  • "Dined Tuesday evening, early May, my 6th visit for dinner. Still perfection, including the service being the ideal mix of attentive and anticipatory without hovering. The amuse now a yummy pepper puff pastry with gouda, replacing the arancini. I picked my own 5-course meal of deliciousness and relaxed for a leisurely evening: Jeunes Bettraves with goat cheese, watercress and pistachio; Egg Raviolo with mushrooms and parmesan; Sauteed Foie Gras with caramelized apple, maple and fresh brioche; Cappelletti with Grilled Quail, asparagus and morel; tea service and dessert of Chocolate Coulant, though I had them replace the caramelized milk ice cream with vanilla. Everything amazing, Cappelletti and Quail were transcendant. Can't wait to return."

  • "Although the service was surprisingly poor from our waitress (she made mistakes with our choices 4 times! forgot the coffee and pineapple juice), the restaurant was generous enough to replace all the dishes and even serve us desert and freshly baked warm madeleines on the house. Class act as expected from such a great place. "

  • "From the Manager Cyrill down to each busboy, the whole staff makes sure you have a perfect experience ! Everything is just PERFECT ! If you can, during the summer, try to ask for the "Verriere" or to be seated in the interior courtyard... Very romantic..."
