Maialino captures the warmth and comfort of a true neighborhood trattoria, with a menu that celebrates the restaurant's ongoing relationship with its local family of farmers and suppliers. Diner Reviews
  • "We had great time at Maialino restaurant the food was great service was excellent."

  • "We had heard great things...but were totally disappointed. The food was not good, and we felt that we got second class service for bringing our well behaved children. The waitstaff was SLOW and unhelpful. There was no pride in the menu or drink selections. Our waitress was completely disconnected from representing the restaurant in a positive light which attributed to our displeasure. Such a downer, given the great location and ambience. Sadly, we won't return."

  • "Great service. Make sure to order the pasta , really delicious and tasty especially lamb ragu bollognese pasta. The sorbet/ice creams are an excellent dessert choice. Will definitely go back."

  • "We had a very nice lunch experience including great food, service and ambience. The artichoke appetizer was fantastic as was the orecchiette. The cherry tart was outstanding."

  • "Everyone I invite to Maialino is always delighted. It's just comfortable, the food is good-to-great, the servers are 'Danny Meyers'-trained and the ambiance is just right. Really a perfect place for just about everything. Even the beautiful babies at breakfast time.. : )) You will love it there."

  • "We tried one of the restaurant's specialties, the braised suckling pig, it was delicious, we had the Insalata along with it and the combination of the salad vinaigrette and the pork were amazing. We started with the Salumi misti and a few drinks, the wine selection is good but I wished they had a greater selection (wines from other regions). For dessert we tried the Panna Cotta and the Torta della Nonna, both were excellent, not too sweet."

  • "If you haven't been to Maialino, you're in for a treat. This restaurant is magical, from the food to the ambiance, everything is perfect. The food though, is the star there for me: don't let the menu fool you, this is not your traditional, old-fashioned Italian restaurant. On the contrary, the dishes have been revisited to surprise even the most blasé customers. Everything served here is always impeccable, with extremely balanced flavors and delicate textures. My favorite dish here is the leg of lamb, and the desserts are all incredible. Go for brunch as well, and order their ricotta pancakes (texture like a délicate soufflé), scrambled eggs (extremely soft), toffee glazed brioche (a must!) or ricotta hazelnut bruschetta with honey!"

  • "Brought my Fiancée there for her birthday. We had an amazing meal, but the service might have been the best I've ever had. Our waitress managed to divine the fact that it was a birthday celebration without us telling her and brought out a complimentary gelato. It was fantastic."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyable experience. You get spoiled if you eat in NYC a lot and your standards get higher; however, this one exceeded our expectations. We ordered lamb chops and pork belly which were both phenomenal. Also amazing proscuitto di parma appetizer. The best part of the entire experience is the wine list. If you are a serious wine lover like myself, this place has hands-down the most interesting and affordable selection of Italian wines in all of NYC. The ambience is unpretentious yet modern and sophisticated. This will be one of our regulars."

  • "Maialino is always hard to get a reservation for, but on this fourth of July weekend, we succeeded! the service was terrific, the food superb. Even though it was brunch, the selection was good. My husband loved his lamb chops with an egg, and my cavatelli with lamb sausage was superb. We had a lovely bottle of wine and a terrific experience. Will definitely go back--that is, when we can get in!"

  • "Would have been 5 stars if not for one issue. A very nice place with a good variety of menu choices, great ambiance and service. The primary issue relates to my aversion to vinegar in my food and finding it used liberally in several of the entrees and side dishes that did not seem to need it. Had there been any hint of vinegar on the menu I would have mentioned my preference to our server, but it did not seem to be necessary in this case. Our pasta course was excellent to start. I was then quite surprised to find my lamb chops with a strong vinegar odor. Even my wife who likes vinegar remarked surprise that her chicken was absolutely "doused" in it to the point that it dominated the dish. Great place otherwise, but just be aware."

  • "We couldn't have been more pleased with the service and the special care that Roger and Ashley took to make our 40th Anniversary dinner at Maialino's more special. Including a card on the table recognizing our anniversary. Denise was very taken by the special care. Thanks you for taking the time to make this a special occasion. Terry & Denise Scussel"

  • "Very cool setting. Decor is beautiful. Food above average but not great. Have had better high end meals than here."

  • "Branzino among the best anywhere. Unique. Delicious. Server was not as good as she should have been. Slow and a bit surly. Sommelier was outstanding. Knowledgeable, keen palate, very helpful."

  • "Pretty close to perfect. Very serious and authentic Italian (especially Roman) food, but completely without pretention. A very Danny-Meyer miracle combination of impeccable service with all the advantages of grand formality but none of the stuffiness. And the food was amazing, as always. Never had better rabbit in my life, and the tortelli with (among other things) liver were a revelation."

  • "marvelous food with a fantastic italian-focused wine list in the charming Gramercy neighbourhood."

  • "Excellent wine list and very good food, but not extra special as you might think given some of the ratings. It's certainly above average, but most NYC restaurants are. Can't compete with Babbo/Marea - not on that level. Nice area of NY and a comfortable dining room, but really - good but not great."

  • "Fantastic service via Dan for a working lunch of six people. Service knew how to manage the table with minimal interruptions. The food was excellent - accommodated a gluten-free diner who also had food allergies. Will be back."

  • "I was looking forward to this evening and it seemed nice when we walked in. I thought the wait staff was dressed a little slovenly. The food was good but pricey for what was served. The room was very crowded with tables. It was not, in my opinion, the elegant restaurant I was expecting."

  • "The chef's tasting menu was a culinary triumph. It was a pleasure to sit back and let the kitchen choose the flavor profiles, from the salume to the lamb chops. Brava!"

  • "I had the pork with the pasta and arugula. I thought the sauce was a bit salty and the pork was average. Overall, we were somewhat disappointed in the food. Ambience was fine."

  • "The waitress was utterly charming and soo accommodating. The food was superlative, from an appetizer that sounded like something your neighbor would serve (cut up veggies and dip), which turned out to be the freshest, most beautiful crudités and a savory aioli olive oil that was addictive. The soft shell crab was the best I've ever tasted. The fish entree was extraordinary and the trio of sorbets delightful. We tried to come back during our one-week stay, but couldn't get a reservation. Oh we'll, another reason to come back to New York City."

  • "Old favorite. Emphasis on favorite. Slowing down. Service slow and haphazard. Pile-ups of guests at the check-in around noon, waits for table (getting changed from breakfast) can be 15 - 20 minutes, long waits for menus, service to get started. Cold pasta dishes, 'sides/garnishes' that were on dishes are no longer there. Forgotten, cost cutting? Still good, but.....not what it used to be."

  • "Maialino never disappoints, always delivers. There was a slight problem, it was resolved with grace which was appreciated and we again appreciated the ethos of a Danny Meyer restaurnt...the customer is ways right. We were!"

  • "We visited Maialino about a month ago and had a less than pleasurable experience. I was pleasantly surprised to receive an e-mail and a gift card for a reduced tab from the general manager, Andrea. She implored me to try the restaurant again and even insisted she make the reservation. Well, I went ahead and made the reservation myself, as I didn't want the visit to be expected. Needless to say, my wife, my daughter and I were pleasantly surprised with the food and the attentive service. Our waiter, Jonathan, demonstrated impeccable timing in taking care of our table. The food was excellent. I didn't disclose the note from Andrea until we received the check. The excellence was unrehearsed. Mailaino is now on our "must return" list."

  • "I had very high expectations as I am a big fan of Danny Meyer's restaurants, but the food was fair at best. The brunch menu was nothing special. I was also suprised to learn that the law prohibits the consumption of alcohol before noon on Sundays. I was hoping for mimosa!!"

  • "I took my husband to a birthday brunch this past weekend. We ordered the salad with peas, fava beans and mint. It was refreshing and a nice start to the meal. The pasta with cacio e pepe was amazing and my porchetta sandwich was also outstanding. Our server was good but extremely busy so the service wasn't quick. This could be a good or bad thing. For us, it was good because we did not feel rushed at all. We will be coming back!"

  • "The service and ambience were totally fine. Food was not what expected. It may have been the options we chose or the food itself. We got reservations for 11:00 p.m. I expected to have an almost empty restaurant, but I was wrong. The place was still busy. My party of four chose appetizers and main entrees. From the appetizers we had the board of cheese and antipasti. Nothing to wow me. As entrees, we all chose the pastas, which were totally okay. It seems that the favorite of the night was Malfati. The other choices were just good (pappardelle and orechiette). Torta di'olio d'oliva, panna cota, torta di cioccolato and budino di ciocolatto were just okay as well. There may be other choices we might try if come back."

  • "We've been here before with others, but this meal was transcendant. Suckling pig pasta was the highlight, but cod was close behind. Lovely bottle of wine courtesy of one of the fabulous sommeliers. Service is friendly and efficient. Lovely spot on northern edge of Grammercy Park. Wonderful. "

  • "Maialino has always been a great restaurant in a great neighborhood. Over the last few months, it seems they have stepped up their customer service. Don't get me wrong, it has always been great. I feel even more welcomed and cared for and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's a new group of personable wait staff. In any case this is only part of the great experience you have at Maialino. The food is amazing. I especially appreciate at lunch, there are more sandwiches available on the menu than in the past. One cannot always have pasta for lunch. It's in my top ten best restaurants in NYC."

  • "I met two friends for lunch. We were drawn to the restaurant by the beauty of the Hotel. We were very disappointed in The food and the atmosphere. We felt that the presentation of the food and the quantity was very average. Nothing to recommend to anyone. The service was good but the place did not seem very special. "

  • "Some of the dishes were great, but others very disappointing. Menu was hit or miss, and the cocktails are a definite pass. Service was good but there is a defined atmosphere of elitism. There are far better, more consistent Italian options with handmade fresh pasta and genuinely friendly service in Manhattan."
