Diner Reviews
  • "My first time at Mahogany's was a good experience. I didn't have to wait too long for my food and when my meal was delivered to me I couldn't stop eating lol. Good quality Soul Food for when you're in the downtown area. Don't miss it!"

  • "A group of 11 attended lunch on 4/9/14. We had 2 servers, which were excellent! They were attentive, pleasant and made our dining experience very memorable. The food was delicious! We had fried cat fish, ribs, turkey chops and grilled tilpia. The sides were greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, fried potatoes and onions, grits and green beans. The servers did a demonstration with the dessert tray and we couldn't resist ordering sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and banana bread pudding. We will definitely be back."

  • "Food was good not as great as our first experience. Turkey ribs and greens are outstanding. The music got a little loud we could no longer have conversation"

  • "This was our first dining experience at Mahogany's. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. The food unfortunately was just ok. We all were looking for the Southern taste we are so used to, but we felt Mahogany's fell short."

  • "The Starburst martini was excellent, as was the chicken and waffles. Attentive server although he could have been a little more knowledgeable about the drink menu."

  • "Am a very pickie Eater but I must say the food was amazing my waiter was so friendly everything was great an I will be back next month to visit"

  • "Convinced that all the food I ate was either drenched in salt, frozen, or both. The staff was very pleasant, but it didn't make me feel like I was in a formal dining place. The cheap napkins, paper napkin rings and tea lights were enough to tell me the place doesn't really take itself seriously."

  • "I had the Starburst Martini, which was just delicious! Very much enjoyed the chicken and waffle. The chicken was fried to perfection."

  • "We were immediately seated. It took longer than I would expect for someone to take our drink order. Multiple servers took meals from table to table asking "did you order this?" Our own meal was offered to two other tables before it got to us. Beverage glasses remained empty. The fried tilapia was good, but you have to ask for any condiments like salt, pepper, or tarter sauce-then we waited again while the server hunted those items down. The corn was awful. It tasted canned and microwaved; "seasoned" with butter and paprika. The greens were equally lack luster. We took the sweet potato pie and peach cobbler to go. They were both overly sweet and disappointing. "Homestyle" should taste better. I'd pass on this place."

  • "I had the best fried tilapia that I've found in Cincinnati. The collard greens were very good, too. It was a Monday evening, and the restaurant was kind of empty, but the service was good and food was served fairly quickly."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Mahogany's. The down-home favorites like peach cobbler, fried green tomatoes, mac & cheese, fried catfish and smothered pork chops were all delicious! The service was outstanding too. A great place to eat down at The Banks!"

  • "The Restuarant atmosphere is nice but unfortunately the food lacked flavor. Everything was hot but it didn't taste like soul food. The potatoes and onions tasted like mashed potatoes. The chicken was fried too hard and salted on top. It had no flavor throughout. The potato salad tasted store bought and the black eye peas were undercooked. Maybe my expectations for flavor were too high. The service on the other hand was great. The drinks were too. Happy hour was very affordable. If I were to go back I'd just go for drinks and appetizers."

  • "Not quite what I thought it would be, but overall satisfactory. The silverware was cheap, not good to be considered fine dining. The service was really good, except for the bar. I was waiting for my party, so I sat at the bar. I sat there for at least twenty minutes, right in front of two bar tenders and neither one acknowledged or greeted me. My food was ok, the others with me really liked theirs. I expect real home cooking when it comes to soul food, but some of the side dishes taste like they were from a can. We however, did decide that it is a good enough restaurant to go back to."

  • "My waiter was great and the food was dynamic and on point with taste and was served hot. Time was taken to prepare the meal and it definitely showed. My only issue was the bartender at the bar because I had a cocktail before being sat for dinner was not friendly and carried too much attitude for my liking. The gentlemen in the suits were nice and made sure everything was going well. Great experience overall."

  • "We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at mahogany's! It was my first visit and I plan to go back on a regular basis. The Staff was very friendly and the service was very good. I enjoyed the Turkey ribs, macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pie! I highly reccomend visiting here for a fun Friday night with good food and karaoke."

  • "We visited the restaurant because we had a Living Social voucher and there have been rumors about the restaurant losing it's lease. Most of the food items are a bit overpriced. My wife had the chicken and waffles, which are a specialty; four small tasteless fried chicken wings on a waffle for $17. Nothing special and overpriced. The ribs were reasonably priced and were excellent. The collard greens and mac and cheese sides were very good too. Service was friendly, but disorganized and spread thin. There are so many new restaurants and older Cincinnati favorites that I would have a hard time recommending this establishment."

  • "On Friday, February 28 six of us made reservations for dinner. The occasion was to celebrate a couple of relatives who were moving out of state. Our reservations were confirmed by phone call from Mahogany's which I appreciated. Upon our arrival we were seated at a table that was not suitable. When I asked to be moved my request was immediately taken care of in a friendly and professional manner. Two of our party were running late so we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes which were very tasty. I had the Baby Back Ribs and they were fall off the bone tender. The Mac n Cheese was very good but could have been cheesier to suit my taste. For a previous dinner I had at Mahogany's I decided to order the fried okra again and it did not disappoint"

  • "The food was absolutely amazing. The service, while very friendly, was lacking. Not enough staff. If you have time and patience, you will be rewarded. I got grilled turkey chops with collard greens, mac & cheese, and cornbread. Highly recommend. Turkey chops were well seasoned with slight peppery kick. Mac & cheese was very cheesy. Cornbread (ask for honey on side) was moist and amazing. The collard greens were absolutely to die for. The portions were generous. My boyfriend, a picky eater, got barbecued ribs, mac & cheese, french fries with ranch on side, and yeast roll. We shared with each other. Ribs were tender and smoky, fries standard, ranch exceptional, roll soft and yummy. I can't stop thinking about those collard greens."

  • "We went for lunch on a week day. There were only two or three other tables besides ours; even so, the food was slow to arrive. Everyone was disappointed with her meal. The fish was tepid and poorly seasoned."

  • "Good food, but not worth the price with the incredibly poor service provided. Spoke with several friends after posting on Facebook and found out this was not a unique problem. Never going back!"

  • "The waiter was pleasant but needs more training. We were there for almost 2 hours and most of it was waiting for the food. When the food came it was ok at the best. There were tables of 4 on each side of us and they received apologies about their wait for their food too."

  • "My sister and enjoyed a wonderful ambience and delicious meal from this restaurant once again!! We have been to Mahogany's multiple times and have NEVER been disappointed! The food and service was excellent as always, so we will definately return for another dining experience!"

  • "My son had the chicken and waffles, which he said was delightful. The collard greens were very well seasoned and tender. The smothered pork chops were very tasty. Just wish they were a little thicker."

  • "Cornbread and baked beans were served lukewarm; cornbread was served without butter, which I had to ask for; our server Norris was pretty good."

  • "The food was true "southern". Collared greens were real-not from a can. Mac & cheese was cheesy and moist. At our table, we were also able to taste hot crispy chicken wings, oxtails and fried tilapia. We didn't try any desserts, but we had sweet potato muffins smothered in butter to die for. If you visited Mahogany"s and had a bad experience, please give it another try. The food and the service is excellent."

  • "I have been to the restaurant plenty of times and the was my 1st bad experience. I had to wait almost two hours for my food!!! Once my food came out it was cold but I was so hungry that I didnt want to send it back, because who knows how long it would have took to get it back. There really need to change there customer service and wait time. Maybe hire more cooks."

  • "Was not expecting that. Good friday night place, not terribly expensive. Would not recommend the pork chops, but the fish was very good."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "Long wait (even with reservations), slow service (due to the staff being stretched too thin although they did seem to be hurrying) and poor organization (surprising since the place has been open for a long time) could almost be overlooked if I didn't receive cold, bland food. The app was unbelievably slow to arrive but it was really good (salmon croquette) so I thought "ok, the kitchen may be disorganized but the food is good". Then the entree came out. Tasteless pork chops that were overdone and dry, were served with a baked mac n cheese that was obviously plated too soon because it was cold. And while the black eyed peas were pretty good, the cornbread was also cold, hard and tasteless. Needless to say, I was unimpressed."

  • "That night was perfect. The food was wonderful the service was even better. That was my fianc√© first time there and he was happy with everything. Besides not having anyone greet us at the door for a few minutes, everything else was amazing. Keep up the outstanding work! !!!"

  • "Our food was delicious, especially the fried catfish and sweet potato pie. The staff made us feel very welcome. However, they were out of ribs, coffee, pasta, and oxtails at 5:30 on a Saturday night. How does that happen?"

  • "Very disappointed with our experience. Poor customer service on the part of the manager. I ordered 2 dishes of which the kitchen was out of both. I was disappointed, but not angry. It happens. The appetizers we ordered were very tasty & I really liked my cocktail. The manager came to our table and asked me on 2 separate occasions if I wanted another drink or appetizer or maybe a side dish. I told her no each time. Her tone & gesture was such that if I ordered something small (not an entree) it would be comped. Well, I finally broke down and ordered another apptizer after her asking me multiple times. When the bill came, it was not comped. She sent the server to tell me she never said it was. She didn't handle the situation herself."
