Diner Reviews
  • "Mahogany's reminded us of Chicago Chicken and Waffles. Great atmosphere, good soul food in large portions and great service. Prices seemed a little high. More specials would be welcome."

  • "There has been so much controversy around Mahogany's that I was hesitant to give it a 2nd try. However, I had out of town guest that wanted to patronize a black owned restaurant. I am so glad we went. The service was very good and the food was absolutely delicious. I was very impressed since by 1st experience was not that great. As the waiter t-shirt said - it's gone be alright."

  • "The food was just OK but the staff was not knowledgeable of the menu or drink menu. The server couldn't even name one of the 3 beers on tap."

  • "I was one of a party of six and we arrived 1 hour before our reservation. All the employees were very friendly and tried to fulfill all of our request. I had never had fried sushi and it was delicious. The grilled turkey chops was also a new eating experience me. The sweet potatoes that ordered could have been a lot hotter. I would definitely like to return in the near future."

  • "Great food, service, and atmosphere. Soul Rolls & Turkey Ribs are to die for. We even got dessert to go and it was delicious. Wish I had more time to sit around because they were setting up for the band while we were there."

  • "Had reservations but everyone seemed confused and took a little while to get seated. Table was not set and when it was it was like eating at McDonald's. Didn't have the menu item I wanted so I settled for something else. It wasn't terrible but also not great. My X wifes meal was bad and my son didn't finish his food. He is 27 and I have never seen him not finish a meal. I am sure I will never go back here. Sorry but you ask for the reveiw."

  • "Went for our anniversary dinner Sunday. I was so, so so, disappointed. The service was slow and the food too salty. I had heard so many good things about this restaurant so I expected some good soul food. I thought no one could mess up baked chicken. I was wrong. They did. We will not return."

  • "went for special night out. Food was ok, but not all that great. hoppin John(beans and rice) was bland, green beans tasted like there was vinegar in them. Desert was good, but not spectacular. Overall, I have had better southern cooking. It was a step up from cracker barrel, but not as good as Smoq in Springdale"

  • "I have eaten at Mahogany's several times for lunch, I have always enjoyed my meal. Mahogany's has a nice atmosphere. I recommend then to others often."

  • "Based on the menu, location, and outside decor my impression of Mahogany's was that it is a destination for upscale southern-style food. Though the ambience is going for that type of restaurant, the food did not meet my expectations. The menu prices did not reflect the quality of food served and I do not plan on returning to the restaurant. The waitstaff was very friendly and the service timely, certainly no complaints on that regard."

  • "Food was terrific (awesome grits!) but the service was so bad I would not return. When I asked for a drink list, the waiter actually said to me he wasn't sure we wanted one since we had a child at the table. The service was slow, when we asked if something could be over rice instead of grits we were simply told no.... the waiter clearly wanted nothing to do with us, and brought us the bill instead of offering a dessert menu. What a shame...when we walked in we thought it was oddly empty for a Saturday night but I suspect this might be why. "

  • "We are trying restaurants all over the city we have not been. The portions were large, however, my catfish was too salty, but the grits were good. The greens were just ok. The service was very good considering all the reviews I had read before going that said it was not good. My friend had the ribs and she said they were tasty. "

  • "The food was good, not great, but it was still enjoyable. Unfortunately, it was difficult to have a dinner conversation because the DJ played music much too loud."

  • "This is a gem of a place for dining without a false note at any point. It is unapologetically Southern with attention to detail that extends to walls and even restroom decor. The staff was incredible in circulating and chatting with diners. There was an expressed dream to reach other cities & we will be watching for new locations as well as returning to this one. Do not pass the Sweet Potato Nread Pudding!"

  • "Mahoganys At the Banks is a wonderful place to to take your loved ones, friends, or to meet your co-workers; The food and the service is outstanding. My wife and I went for date night and we really enjoyed everything and we had a good time."

  • "Ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, Cajun Burger, and Blackened Catfish with greens and fries as our two entrées. The fried green tomatoes were fairly good although the chipotle mayo was basically mayo with color. The catfish and greens were cooked very well, but the seasoning on each was sorely missing, and the fries were missing. The burger was a disaster, the patty was obviously a frozen manufactured burger, the bun was supposed to be a pretzel roll, but instead it was a soggy white bread tiny bun. Overall the restaurant is not set up well and the food is not nearly worth the price you pay."

  • "I heard wonderful things about Mahogany's. Unfortunately, I did not find any of it to be true. They are highly overrated, overpriced, and definitely not kid-friendly. They charged $10 for one chicken wing and french fries. They did not have kid cups for the drinks and they added on an 18% gratuity. I will not going back!"

  • "We went to Mahogany's for Mothers Day. There were 7 of us. The Turkey ribs were excellent and the sweet potato bread was great! The greens were a little salty for my taste and the peach cobbler was not as good as my wife's peach cobbler. I would definitely go back."

  • "I had a very enjoyable time at Mahogany's for Mother's Day. We were able to be seated immediately and the service made sure we had everything we needed throughout the dining experience. The food was delicious and the music being played was most appropriate."

  • "It was Mothers' Day, we had a 2:30 reservation and arrived on time. Ordered about five minutes after arrival but food did not appear until almost 4:00. My mother ordered the baked chicken dinner and specified white meat. When finally served, she got a leg and thigh. When asked, the server said the kitchen said no substitutions but this was not noted on menu. The menu said pretzel buns for hamburgers, this was not provided. At no time did a manager stop at table to ask how things were going. Will not be returning."

  • "Our family of four visited Mahogany's before the Reds game on Mothers Day. The staff and owner couldn't have been friendlier. We enjoyed sitting outside watching the pre game crowd at the Banks. The food was better than average, especially the shrimp and grits. Loved the bread pudding and homemade ice cream for dessert. Overall, a good lunch, nice people and a beautiful Sunday afternoon. "

  • "The Red's were playing the day we went. They have a limited menu available on those days. We did not get to sample the foods we saw on the main menu. We were limited to snacks and appetizers. We left hungry, but happy with what we tried. Gave us a chance to check out another spot nearby to split an entree and grab dessert. If I am ever back in Cincy - I'd definitely make my way back. "

  • "Great visit and great food! Waiter was helpful, polite, and timely. Food was very tasteful and soulful. I had collard greens, mac n cheese, and the pork chops...It was fabulous. The cornbread muffins were awesome especially with the greens! We have been here several times and this time my family and I were here for my daughter's dance recital celebration; my kids enjoyed the food as well. Nice job Mahogany's!"

  • "Food was not cooked southern style as it is Marketed as Southern Cuisine. Smothered Turkey Chops dry and hard. Took 10 minutes to get servers attention and another 20 to get meat replaced. Pork ribs had been boiled then put in oven or microwave and very very wet with sauce that tasted like Sweet Baby Rays. Fried Corn was so sweet it could have sent my wife into a diabetic coma. Southern fried corn, is fried with onions, salt, pepper and thickened with flour and a bit of milk or cream. Southern corn bread is not sweet. The resturant should be Marketed as Soul food cuisine not southern. WILL NOT BE RETURNING."

  • "My husband and I ate a late lunch (2:45) at Mahogany's At the Banks, so it was after the lunch crowd but before the dinner crowd. The menu is definitely as described with a down home southern flare. We stated off with a plate of fried fried green tomatoes, which I would definitely recommend. For the main course I had the shrimp and grits which where wonderful! I also sampled my husbands grilled chicken, collard greens, homemade macaroni and cheese with a corn bread muffin......all delish!! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and the vibe was nice in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend and would eat at again next time we are in Cincinnati."

  • "It was pleased with the experience and the food was.good. I would have liked mellow music. It felt like I was at a party otherwise a goof experience."

  • ".food was simply ok, and definitely lacked in flavor. .the restaraunt appeared poorly constructed, designed, and run. .the real kicker however, was the lack of restroom facilities. We went on a Saturday evening around 7:30 and the place was dead. That said, I had to wait at leas 15 minutes both times I needed to use the restroom. One toilet for men in the whole facility! Not only that, both times I was waiting it was my server who was holding up the restroom. How unappetizing is that? In so many ways this restaraunt is not quality enough for the Banks. "

  • "Our meal was very good, but our service was slow. I would recommend the restaurant to others for the food and atmosphere, but service needs to improve. By the time we finally received our appetizer, we were quite hungry."

  • "My first time at Mahogany's was a good experience. I didn't have to wait too long for my food and when my meal was delivered to me I couldn't stop eating lol. Good quality Soul Food for when you're in the downtown area. Don't miss it!"

  • "A group of 11 attended lunch on 4/9/14. We had 2 servers, which were excellent! They were attentive, pleasant and made our dining experience very memorable. The food was delicious! We had fried cat fish, ribs, turkey chops and grilled tilpia. The sides were greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, fried potatoes and onions, grits and green beans. The servers did a demonstration with the dessert tray and we couldn't resist ordering sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and banana bread pudding. We will definitely be back."
