  • "Went here for my birthday and the food was delicious. The desert stole the show it was sooo good ( caramel flan) Also if you go on your bday they give you a cool Mexican hat to keep and wear the rest of the night if you wish lol . Also I can't say enough about their delicious drinks. I had the passion fruit sangria and the pina coloda mojito , the mojito transported me to Cancun it was so tasty! My friends and I split the salmon with coconut mole and shrimp empanadas and we all enjoyed them very much . Over all great dining experience. I was so glad we had reservations and were seated right away because that place gets packed! "

  • "Mago Grill is an energetic place, with interesting food and spicy salsas. I enjoyed the cheese quesadillas with chihuahua cheese as an appetizer. I'm not a fan of margaritas, but the Ilusion margaritas we had were delicious. I couldn't resist having a second one. I recommend the salmon with coconut mole. It was sweet and spicy and just delicious. My wife had the carne asada tampiquena, and it was tender and tasty. There was a mariachi playing the night we went, so be prepared for a noisy, but enjoyable fiesta. We'll be back!"

  • "Mego was crowded so we were glad we mad reservations. The food is an interesting blend of traditional Mexican with a bit of experimentation. Everything we tried was very good and more interesting than most Mexican restaurants. The service was wonderful. We will go back."

  • "We went on a thurs, they had $5 Sangira's, Very good! They had a Mariachi band, even though they were good, it was alittle too Loud due to the resturant being a little small. We had a Groupon and in the beginning after metioning it to the Server she said we coudl split the check amongst our group then at the end when we asked to split th echeck we were told no! Not very customer friendly at that point. Also the server didnt come back to the tble often to see if we needed more drinks or anytign for that matter. Food was good as always, enjoy the fresh made Guac!"

  • "We had a coupon so decided to try this restaurant. We ordered a margarita each, the guacamole appetizer (which was made table-side and very good) and a variety of main courses. I personally had shrimp enchiladas which tasted good but for the price ($14), were extremely small portioned. The beans and rice took up more of the serving plate than the enchiladas. Between 3 diners which had enchiladas, a burrito, one drink each and shared the appetizer, a $90 bill (before groupon) was pretty ridiculous. The margaritas, while OK, at $8.50 a piece, were served in a glass half the size of a soda can. Also, the high ceilings make conversation impossible. There are many better choices for mexican food in the area at a much more reasonable price."

  • "We have dined at Mago's several times and consistantly has excellent food and excellent service. Lively atmosphere with an outstanding menu! Made to order guacamole prepared right at your table! Mago's is a must try!"

  • "To make a long story short, we made a reservation for 4 late on a Sunday. At the last minute two additional people decided to join us. I didn't think it would be an issue at 7:30pm on a Sunday. When we arrived The restaurant was 60% capacity with both round tables for 6 open. The hostess told me we would be waiting because we were waiting for the two tables of 4(which still had diners who she claimed had been there for 2+ hours each). We went the the bar and 20 minutes later she came and told us we were now waiting for 2 different parties to leave. The whole time the 2 6 person tables were available. A total of 50 minutes passed and we were finally seated AT THE TABLE FOR 6 THAT WAS OPEN THE ENTIRE TIME. Thanks Mago!"

  • "This is a good authentic Mexican restaurant. The arroz con pollo was a Mexican spin on chicken pot pie and a very large portion. The menu has many good choices and all seem to be very tasty."

  • "This was our first visit to Mago. It is an attractive place in the summertime, and perhaps we will go there again when we can sit outdoors, but the restaurant is small and they have packed in too many tables. We were seated quickly, but our table had dirty glasses on it, which the host quickly removed, but we had some concerns that the table was not clean. The server was very pleasant and fairly effective, but we had difficulty hearing her over the noise. There were just too many people vying to be heard. Then the Mariachi band started, and all hope of conversation vanished. Even though the band was not amplified, the music was far too loud for the space. I couldn't wait to finish my food and get going."

  • "Just went with a girlfriend. The food is AMAZING! Truly the best Mexican food I've ever had. Lots of vegetarian choices - We shared fajitas and enchiladas. I don't drink, but their smoothies are delicious - I mixed peach and guava!!"

  • "The food was great, the environment was a bit crowded but fine and the service was good! The menu is a bit different than most Mexican Restaurants, which I really liked - some unique and flavorful offerings! Their 3 salsas and moles are amazing and their guac made to order is great. Would definitely go back!"

  • "The food was great. I didn't care for where they placed us (corner table in the back room) as we were very close to the next table and couldn't maneuver comfortably. We had to almost shout to have a conversation since the music, although nice, was a bit too loud. We've been there three times now and I would definitely go there again to eat their fantastic food. Our poblano appetizer was good, but $8 is a bit much for a few poblano's. The 3 times we've dined at Mago's, we had a fantastic, knowledgeable waiter who helped us with the menu and made suggestions that were spot-on (even though I'm Mexican, I still needed help with the menu)."

  • "We were seated at a table that was very tight and small. My chair kept getting bumped into throughout our dinner. We were actually seated at this table once before and we were very unhappy then. I requested that we be seated at another table the moment the hostess went to sit us down. She told us that there was not other table available, even though we would have been willing to wait for another one to open up. I had made reservations almost a month prior and was very disappointed that the restaurant was not accomodating. The food was still wonderful, I just hope we never have to sit at this table again!"

  • "They had a three taco dinner that was great. Gave you the chance to try 3 small tacos all of your choice. AND they didn't automatically include the beans and rice. Could get for a nominal charge. Nice way to try out several of their dishes to get your favorite (or all three!) the next time. Fresh made guacamole is another nice touch (a little expensive, but very tasty)."

  • "Varied selection and excellent food if your looking for some quality Mexican cuisine this is worth a try. Would like to have seen a few more craft beers on the menu, I'm not always in the mood for margaritas."

  • "We started off with the $5 margarita specials with the salsas and chips were. These were well made and a nice range of spiciness. However, the enjoyable experience ended there. Three of our four entrees took over an hour to arrive, the last coming after another 10 minutes. The last entree was stuffed chicken doused in a grayish brown sauce (the special of the evening). It was so unappetizing I could not eat the dish. The other entrees were also disappointing - bland, pasty cheese enchiladas, bland beans and rice, inedible tacos. The only items we ate were the chicken tamale and the chorizo taco. The vegetarian tamale was far too much of a hodgepodge of ingredients that lacked any cohesive flavor. We will not be going back."

  • "I know, a place known for a girty jillion moles and sauces..right..but they put too much glop on the food. Great tamales buried somewhere under a ton of mole with another decorative stripe of some other sauce. I have been there before...I picked the restaurant this time. ..but I didn't enjoy the food. The staff was great."

  • "We love Mago and have been going since they opened the Bolingbrook location. The food is outstanding. Wonderful use of flavors, great overall quality and large quantity. Good value since they aren't very expensive. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We did wait a little while to be greeted by our server but it seemed like they were unexpectedly busy on a Sunday night. Overall a great experience. Get the ceviche and the guacamole. You won't be disappointed!"

  • "We were killing time before a Victoria's Secret shopping event, and decided to grab something to eat. First and foremost the food is excellent! Both of our meals (a steak and an enchilada dinner) were well prepared, tasty, delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant, and all the patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves thoroughly. Our only point of contention was the speed of service. While we understand that they were reasonably busy, we felt that while the service was great when our waiter was there, that he was somewhat slow in getting to us and checking in on us. That being said, overall a very pleasant experience.."

  • "If you truly appreciate Mexican food (not tex-mex or mex-icanna) this is the place for you. The freshness of the food, the creative sauces, including a whole menu section just for different kinds of mole, and excellent ceviche! The margaritas are a perfect compliment to the outstanding food and the flow of chips and 3 kinds of salsa to the table are endless. We drive past more than a dozen other Mexican restaurants to get to Mago. When you go, ask for a sample of the mole sauces before you order, it just might make you a new fan of mole. Vibrant environment that is quieter at lunch and a bit more lively at dinner. Appropriate for business lunch, girls day/night out meal, celebration dinners, or just for fun!"

  • "Mago has a great menu full of items that differ from your typical Mexican restaurant. The trio of salsas they bring to start are fantastic!. I love the food, but the service is often very slow. We had a great waitress, but she was very busy with other tables and the time between our drinks, order, and food delivery was too long. One waiter offer to replace our salsas while we were waiting, but he never delivered. The waiter that delivered our food asked if we needed anything, and after we asked for water, he said, "Great! Enjoy your meal!" like he wasn't listening to what we were saying. Needless to say, we never got our water refill. If you go, be sure to know the service will be slow and you might have to ask for things more than once."

  • "Authentic Mexican fare by award-winning Chefs Juan Luis Gonzalez. When you are seated, you will be given three homemade salsas and fresh, hot chips. Heaven! The five mole sauces plus a specialty of the day keep me coming back for more. Homemade tamales, a pot-pie style Arroz con Pollo (rice & chicken), tender meats, fish - you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. Guacamole (prepared table-side) is delicious. Every entree comes with a bowl of tortilla soup, broth based, full of flavor! Tacos and burritos are also on the menu. If you are ready to take a step beyond the Americanized ground-beef taco (which they do offer), you'll be delighted with this south-of-the-border foodie experience."

  • "Getting a table was no problem getting the jump on New Years Eve. Owner, hostess, waitress and table help were all pleasant and ready to make our experience a good one. I was glad the Live Mariachis were not playing. The restaurant is just too small for the band and makes the evening very uncomfortable. This was perfect and loved, loved the food! We have never been disappointed."

  • "I had been to Mago many times before, but this time we made a reservation for New Year's Eve. Our table was ready upon our arrival, and the service was fast and friendly. We retired to the bar after our meal and the bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about the many margaritas that Mago offers. It was a great way to kick off the new year!"

  • "Food was good. The sangria and table-side guacamole were the highlights. Service from Aaron R. left a lot to be desired. A few tips on service: 1) don't get an attitude when guests ask for separate checks (given new register systems, this isn't hard to do), 2) don't assume separate checks will negatively affect your tip; however, your attitude might (especially when the people you're serving are in the industry); 3) walk around the table to set items in front of each guest rather than putting your elbows and half your body in their face when it isn't necessary, 4) don't serve food or drinks on chipped/broken plates (throw them away), and 5) don't package food in front of the guest, take it away and package it or allow the guest to do it."

  • "This is traditional Mexican dining which offers a wide variety of selections. They provide three different types of salsa which is good for everyone. The tableside preparaition of guacamole is very good as it is made to order."

  • "The food is fresh, served hot and really tasty! I've been to Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill in the city and this food is just as good. There are many options to choose from (they even have a dish with Amish chicken) and the portion sizes are generous. Table-side guacamole has the most simple, fresh ingredients and the flavor is amazing. All tables get complimentary salsa (3 types...all very good though the smoky chipotle and tomatillo are my favorites) and chips."
