Mago Grill & Cantina - Arlington HeightsMago Grill-Creative & FreshHad dinner on a weeknight at the Arlington Heights location, with a friend visiting from out of town; we both had a great experience. Reminds me of a tapas restaurant with a Mexican twist; everything on the well designed menu looked great!
Service was friendly and efficient; enjoyed dining al fresco too.
Staff kept water glasses full, as well as the bowl of warm tortilla chips, with 3 tasty salsas.
Our entree of 3 shrimp corn tortillas was excellent; came with sides of black beans and Mexican rice. Love that Mago will make just about all dishes gluten free upon request, and has a vegetarian section on the menu.
Restaurant is fairly small, and located in the Metropolis Playhouse building; make reservations.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMvery good food and very convenientvery good food and very convenient location
friendly staff6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONMy birthday fell on a Monday, when alot of restuarants are closed, It is hard to celebrate on a Monday. We decided to give Mago a try based on reviews. It was outstanding. I noticed 1 review said this was the Frontera Grill of the suburbs. We have been to Frontera Grill twice, and once with Rick Bayless present, and YES I would put MAGO up in that catagory.. We were seated at a table by the window and it felt like dining in Lincoln Park. They let you try the mole's sauces before selecting, the waiter knew his food and beverages. We had ceviche, skirt steak with ranchero mole's sauce, magaritas (inferno is totally different and exceptional). The birthday desert came complete with complementy cake AND sombrero that you get to keep.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as usualMade-by-your-table guacamole and an extensive, unique menu are Mago hallmarks, and this visit lived up to that. Had the shrimp enchiladas which were quite good, and my friend's burrito was reported to be excellent. Very nice addition was the secure wifi service, with the password cheerfully provided on paper by the server. Noisy, but in a good way, and not enough to impair our conversation. Will definitely be back again!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food love this placeGreat food love this place it was a little loud on Friday night5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA really good dining experienceI went with a group to Mago over the weekend and was treated to a very delicious meal. Mago serves very good food at reasonable prices. The food is very much cooked to your spice level. If you have requests, they gladly take them. I had the Carne Chihuahua, which was a skirt steak topped with Chihuahua cheese and served with vegetable, mashed potatoes, and black beans. The steak was tender and the mashed potatoes were excellent. Other guests in my party had ceviche, grilled calamari, and a veggie burrito. All looked good and everyone was satisfied. Reservations are a good idea on the weekend, as the place is quite busy. Overall, it was a very nice experience.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was great. LoveEverything was great. Love the guacamole made at the table, as well as their drinks.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently goodWe go to Mago when we have a hankering for a good margarita and fajitas. Pork pibil tacos are an A+5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food and drinksSuch a great variety of menu items - from traditional Mexican to an excellent special list. Everyone raved about their food, and the pitcher of margherita's was a great way to share. We will definitely go back. I recommend getting the gaucamole that is made at your table the spiciest you can - we had medium and it was good but needed more of a kick. Just a great experience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMtop 1There are 3 Mexican restaurants in walking distance in Ar. Heights downtown area.
This is by far the best.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTERRIRFIC!!Sure it would be great for groups, but was perfect for just two~thrilled that they take reservations and can't wait to go back!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for food and beverages.Great place for food and beverages. Traditional Mexican food with a twist! Table favorites were the Taquitos de Tinga, Chiles Rellenos and Carne Chihuahua. The fruit margaritas were delicious as well. Fresh fruit and fruit purees, no nasty sour mixers. Recommend La Ilusion and La Reina. Definitely will drive back out the burbs for Mago!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbMago keeps getting better and better. My wife and I go there for date night regularly. This time the server was very friendly and not intrusive. The timing of the dishes was perfect. We each had one of the specials with the trademark moles (sauces), which are absolutely out of this world. Great fried ice cream to finish too. Try Mago, you won't be disappointed.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEl GrandeFour of us went to dinner and we all had something different....each entree was better then next. The Burrito's were the size of footballs, the red snapper tacos where amazing, the steak fiatas were excellent and the shrimp enchiladas were good. I would recommend this to anyone.
Don't forget to try the Margaritas.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time and will be going backThis was my first time eating at Mago and I was extremely impressed. It is more of a amped up version of your traditional Mexican fare with gourmet touches. I highly recommend it for anyone who loved traditional Mexican food but wants to try something new. The service was great and the atmosphere is small but fun. I will be going back soon with more friends!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Mexican in the areaEverything at Mago is fresh & full of flavor. The complimentary 3 salsas and chips are a very tasty start to any meal, or enjoyed on the patio on a summer afternoon with the yummy house margaritas, which go down "a little too easy". I adore the Ensalada de Peras, and the Rajas Tacos are killer. I've been eating at the Arlington Heights location since they opened ... MUY BIEN!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMago is the 'burbs versionMago is the 'burbs version of Frontera Grill. An nice relaxing atmosphere for lunch.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Mago! Can't say enough about Mago. Absolutely my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Great food. Great staff. Great time. I'm a big fan and have been since opening day. They have catered parties at my home and I have introduced many friends that have quickly become regulars. Make reservations as their reputation brings in big crowds. There is a second location in Bollingbrook and a new space opening in Barrington this summer. Enjoy.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMfriendly service and great foodService was attentive. They kept bringing the chips and had 3 types of salsa - this was all free. We had a chicken dish and the vegetable fajitas. Both were excellent and I had plenty left of the vegetables for another meal. We drank the special - organic blueberry margarita. It was refreshing and tasty but maybe a bit too sweet..4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHad been there in awhile.Had been there in awhile. Very glad we did.

Never a disappointment!!!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTOO LOUDI ASK..WHAT IS THE POINT OF GOING TO DINNER WITH OTHER PEOPLE IF YOU CAN NOT CONVERSE WITH THEM BECAUSE IT IS SO LOUD. I DON'T WANT TO PAY MY GOOD MONEY TO JUST WATCH THEM EAT!!!!!! What a shame because the food and service are very good...maybe I am just getting too old.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMago is hands down one ofMago is hands down one of the best mexican restaurants in the Arlington Heights area. The happy hour is awesome with $5 margaritas and $5 guacamole as well as spinach and cheese quesadillas. Awesome meal for 2 under $25. Can't beat that. Will definitely be back again3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent, waiter'sService was excellent, waiter's accent was difficult to understand, he spent a lot time to explain the menu, which was more than complicated than it needed to be. I would go back especially if I got one of the tables with a view of the street like I did this time!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMixed reviewThis is the third time I have eaten here. On this occasion it was for an office outing to celebrate two birthdays. I made the reservation and requested that the birthday "boys" be able to wear a sombrero as I had seen a birthday celebration during a previous visit. I had to remind the staff twice to bring the sombreros over to the table (which was only 10 minutes before we were leaving). The food was very good! We were the only table being serve. It took a long time to place our order, get our drinks and then wait for the food. Upon getting the check I was very disappointed that, although they had brought yummy flan for birthday desserts, they charged us for both desserts without mentioning the charge to us firs3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the food. AppreciatedLoved the food. Appreciated being given a sample of their mole offerings so I could decide which one to order. Service was excellent. Staff very accommodating and efficient.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
