  • "We just moved into Arlington Heights a month ago, and we've already been to Mago Grill & Cantina three times.......the food, service, and ambience are all great!!! It's our new favorite gourmet mexican restaurant. Great margaritas too!!"

  • "The service wasn't the best. We went on a Tuesday night and it didn't seem too busy, but nobody was out front when we arrived at the restaurant. We waited a bit to be seated simply because the host didn't come around for a few minutes. It's not that big of a deal, but if this place fancies itself as even remotely "upscale," there should be a hostess out front. Our waiter took probably 20 minutes to come to our table for the first time. The food itself was pretty good. It wasn't to the level of what I was paying, however. I may go back if other people suggest it, but it wouldn't be my first choice."

  • "Great service and the margarita's were fantastic. The server offered me one that was not on the menu and I loved it!"

  • "We ate at Mago Grill for the first time and WOW were we really impressed!! Great service, great food, and great guacamole; made table side. We can't wait to go back. Highly recommend this little quaint restaurant."

  • "I have been to Mago numerous times for dinner and every time I go there I get something different for dinner as does my wife, I have never had a bad meal there and the service is always fabulous. The manager Eddie is a great guy and always stopping by the tables to see if everything is good."

  • "Went with a group of four to eat. Had reservations at 7:30pm. We arrived early and the place was already packed - including the bar area - so we just walked across the street to have a drink. They seated us a bit after 7:30pm, but was OK as we weren't in a rush. The food was amazing! I had the ropa vieja and couldn't stop eating it. The sangria was fantastic! I will definitely be going back. Our server was amazing too."

  • "We arrived a few minutes early and the hostess verified our reservation, checked on our table and escorted us to an amazing window table right away. We were told immediately upon being seated that one of the three salsas about to be served contained peanuts, which one of our party is allergic to. They substituted that salsa with another and the chips arrived warm and delicious. Our waitress was so accommodating. She took our drink orders and returned to answer questions about our options. We asked for guacamole without cilantro and watched the guac lady prepare our order right in front of us. It was great! We each ordered different tacos and were able to taste/share the deliciousness. I asked for a side order of refried black beans. Yummy!"

  • "Food was good. Margaritas were excellent. I liked how to kept the reservation times very strictly. There's nothing worse than waiting when you have a reservation so it's nice how they handle it."

  • "Excellent authentic food with excellent service! I highly recommend making reservations. This place us always hopping. Rafael was our server and he was also excellent. Thank you for a wonderful dinner !"

  • "This was our first visit to Mago Grill. the frozen Margarita was wonderful. I have been craving good Mexican food with a kick and this wasn't able to fill that from the quacolmoi through entree...the food was fresh and husband ordered a Skirt Steak and liked it very much. We ordered an appetizer but if we had known Chicken Tortilla soup came with our meal, we probably would not have. It needed more spice in my opinion also. I ordered the Shrimp Fajita and the shrimp were a nice size and tasty but the sauted green peppers and onions weren't cooked enough to my liking and not enough heat for me. All in all the food was fresh and I would try the restaurant again, but knowing I need more kick, would ask for a Hot Sauce on the side."

  • "I went to Mago for Friday night date night at 7:30PM. The restaurant was very busy and the seating was a little crowded, but nothing you wouldn't expect on a Friday night. The first thing I noticed was how loud the restaurant was - not regular Friday night out loud but screaming to your date across the table loud. There was a very large party seated close to us, whose partygoers had clearly had a few libations prior to their dinner, which did not help the ambience. The margaritas were very good and I would go a second time for the guac alone. The carne asada, chorizo and red snapper tacos were very spicy but good. I would prefer to go during a regular weeknight or for lunch next time since it is such a loud space. Great service, too!"

  • "I have been Mago before and every time the food is delicious, the service is excellent and I enjoy my dinner. It has a nice selection of margaritas and other drinks and the food is always great. I would recommend reservations because it can be crowded."

  • "For my pesos, it's the best Mexican restaurant in the area. I often crave their rajas tacos. And their margaritas are pretty darn good too. Fresh, tasty chips with the 3 salsas assortment as a great way to start your meal."

  • "It is hard to find a good Mexican restaurant but we were pleasantly surprised by Mago Grill. Mole entree was very good, and although we did not order it, we noted an excellent looking table side Guacamole preparation.;"

  • "We eat here about 3 times per month. We like the food and the staff--both knowledgeable and friendly. Some of our best dining experiences have been the specials of the night. Their sauces have a good depth of flavor. They have a variety of tasty moles and often feature a special mole not on the menu. I am a Margarita snob. Mago has good margaritas and mixed drinks. Save room for dessert! The tres leches is good (sometimes they have other flavors--coffee, yum), the bread pudding is delicious (we order ice cream to accompany it), but the FLAN...I must say I was never a fan of flan, but it is delicious."

  • "Had a lukewarm Taco Salad. Tight seating. When I told the waiter that my plate had a big chip, he said they are not perfect. The Chips and Salsa were good,"

  • "Enjoyed the appetizers, guacamole was excellent. The taco salad was just okay. A little too noisy for my liking. We had reservations but still had a 20 minute wait."

  • "Great meal with my girl there Saturday night. This was my 2nd time at this location. Everyone from kitchen, through wait staff and hostess very attentive, and truly understand how to deliver an outstanding customer experience. This is a place that needs a loyalty club program. I'm in that town at least 4 times per year and would always make one of my stops when I'm there. Walking distance from train station."

  • "Have been there many times. This is what I like to call my favorite nicer Mexican place, as it has a nicer ambience and is not as casual as my other favorite hole in the wall mexican place. The food is great, the drinks are yummy and the three salsas with chips are to die for."

  • "What a great menu! So nice to see the Gluten Free menu options so clearly labeled. The food was amazing and I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Mago is my favorite Upscale, creative mexican cuisine. The chef's originality and use of special ingredients is exceptional. First I highly recommend sampling the mole sauces. They are very tasty and flavorful. The food is always very fresh and the combinations unique. This time I tried a mayo margarita on the rocks and it was divine! I also recommend the bread budding! Quite frankly I have never had a bad, or even mediocre meal yet! It is a bit pricey for mexican food, but it's not your usual mexican."

  • "They offer 3 different salsa for the fresh chips right off the bat. But, that was definitely the best part of the meal. Ordered 3 tacos which was loaded with various meats. However, the meats did not appear or taste fresh. Was hoping the food would be cooked as we ordered...not loaded up from under a heat lamp."

  • "I have been to Mago 3 times, the previous visits were excellent all around, food, service and ambience. So the expectations were high going in. Unfortuantely, this visit did not live up to the 5 star ratings of previous visits. Firstly, while our waiter was ambicable and at the ready, he spoke very fast and was difficult to understand. Secondly, 2 of us ordered the Cornish Game Hen which was one of the lunch specials, the hen itself was lacking flavor without the mole that was served very decoratively on the side of the plate. One of the Hens was not cooked fully and was sent back, it was obvious they microwaved the uncooked Hen instead of offering a new fully cooked one. This will not detract from future visits if this is a one off."

  • "Ate here a few times. Nothing to shout home about, and a bit pricey for Mexican, but worth it. Not extraordinary, but not at all an ordinary Mexican restaurant. Excellent shrimp ceviche, and guacamole, too."

  • "Great food always, really wonderful....the service though is consistently spotty. Been here many times and I'm always blown away that the service can be so iffy or bad for such a great restaurant."

  • "It's hard to find a nice, clean Mexican food place in the north suburbs - but I found this gem. Food is excellent. Place is very nice, clean and pleasant, only a bit crowded, but it's ok. I would highly recommend!! I would visit again!!"

  • "We eat here at least once a month. The food is always excellent. The specials are always outstanding and interesting. Ceviche is great, we get it every time we visit. Service is always very good. The only reason that it's not a five star review is that it is a more casual restaurant and not a fine dining experience. But I think they have the best Mexican food in the area."

  • "Very noisy. Can't keep a conversation going. Ordered the stuffed chicken breast. Got it in about 10 minutes. I should have know it was precooked waiting for someone to order it. Dry and a waste. The soup came about a minute before the entrée. The waiter had bad timing. Won't go back again. This was my 4th visit."

  • "I've been to Mago a few times now, but this was my first time for lunch. We loved it just as much! There were 5 of us there for our work holiday lunch, and we enjoyed a variety of different dishes. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions, and those did not disappoint! Of course, the fresh guac and salsa were fantastic as always, and we got to sample a few different fresh mole sauces. It was all DELICIOUS - especially the Jobito (sp?) sandwich, which was steak and onions sandwiched between plantains. That might have been the best steak sandwich I've ever had. I've saved the best for last. There is not enough room here for me to describe how fantastic the peach sangria is; if they'd let me, I'd buy that by the gallon."

  • "The food was great. I had the special. It was shrimps & scallops in the mole sauce of the night. One of the ingredients in the mole was white chocolate. We also had the guacamole that they make at your table which was excellent."

  • "We eat a Mago with some regularity and it has always been a pleasant experience. This visit we were originally seated at an “orphaned” table between 2 larger groups and without being asked the manager found a booth for us. Nice. And the food was excellent as was the service."
