MagnoliasA Flower To Be EnjoyedA cozy dinner for my wife and I while visiting Charleston. Here you feel comfortable and relaxed. Never rushed, you can dine at a leisurely pace. The PEI mussel appetizer was fabulous and more than enough for sharing. Be careful not to fill up on the wonderful bread, it is so easy to dip in the mussel sauce! The Lowcountry Bouillabaisse was just right in both taste and size, leaving room for the best Peach Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream I've had in a long time. We will certainly visit Magnolias again, hopefully in the not too distant future.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service at Magnolia'sThe food and service at Magnolia's was excellent. We were seated as soon as we arrived, we were not rushed through even though the restaurant was packed, with a waiting line. I would definitely recommend Magnolia's to anyone who visits Charleston.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely facilityWe are from Virginia, and this is our second visit to your lovely facility! My entree was superb! I ordered the shellfish with grits and sauce. My husband ordered the Fried chicken, which he said this time was not quite up to par with our last visit...somewhat dry and over fried ! Pecan pie not as good as expected. Still enjoyed our dinner!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingWent there for a romantic night with my husband and the food was out of this world. Fried green tomatoes and pecan pie were to die for. The grits were decadent. Our server was great as well.
Our only complaint would be that our table was right beside a large party with very loud children. My husband and I could not hear each other until they left. I would NOT recommend taking groups of children to an upscale restaurant like this. It is very inconsiderate.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are regulars at Magnolia'sWe are regulars at Magnolia's when in Charleston but this time we were not as happy about out experience. To be fair, it was a busy night with many huge groups, but to take 2 hours to eat dinner was crazy. 30 minutes to get peanut hummus! and another 45 to get our meals. Trout was mushy and not good. Salmon special and tuna were delicious.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGluten Free MeccaThe gluten free menu was outstanding! I have been gf for 9 months and find it difficult at times to find delicious, gf dining experiences that live up to my high standards for dining out. Magnolia's did it all well. Firstly, the gf menu is as large as the regular menu. Sadly, they were out of gf bread, a rarety when dining out, but the parmesan crusted flounder took my mind right off of that! Everything was prepared with the freshest ingredients and was packed with flavor. I have eaten here on previous visits to Charleston before going gf, and enjoyed it thoroughly and was just as impressed this time. Thank you for taking such care of those of us that can't partake of gluten!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the Best Food I've Ever HadThe title says it all! The Parmesan-encrusted Flounder was amazing!! The flounder had a perfect crust and the vegetable salad that it comes with was delicious! What pulled it all together was the sauce that was in the bottom of the dish! That stuff was the nector of the gods! (sorry for all the exclamation points but it was really good) My wife had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken which was very well done. The skin was not overly crispy and the side dishes that comes with it were so good. I'm very picky about mac and cheeses at restaurants but this was in my top three. It was so rich and cheesy though you have to eat it in small bites or risk eating the hand that is feeding you. :-)6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLeft-oversYou know you had a great experience when you relive it in your dreams. Meals at Magnolias are a got-to-have when we visit Charleston.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was incredibleI recently moved here, and my fiancé and I chose Magnolias to celebrate my first full day in Charleston. We could not have asked for a better experience! Even though we were placed in a less than ideal location (next to the hallway leading to the kitchen) it never felt awkward or that we were in the way. We had the housemade chips for the appetizer- SO good! Both of our entrees (tuna and flounder) were delicious. We had pecan pie to top it off... It is the best pie I think I've ever had. The service was friendly and accommodating. Overall an amazing night!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur lunch was superb! OurOur lunch was superb! Our waiter Andrew was knowledgeable, friendly, great at suggesting what we should have. Since we were from out of town he made several suggestions of other places we should go and see.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat placeGreat food, great service. Great date night on a vacation visit to Charleston.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful FoodEverything we ate was delicious! My only complaint is that our table was so close to the next that we felt we were part of their conversation - that was annoying. Everything else was perfect.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern LivingEverything about Magnolia's was great and I love the atmosphere. Great southern food that will give you an amazing Charleston feel.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and ServiceEvery dish we have ever eaten at Magnolia's has been outstanding. The service has always been excellent. Everybody is always so friendly and courteous.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Shelf Charleston TraditionsYou know it is a "step-up" the minute you walk in the door and are pleasantly greeted and graciously seated. The dining rooms are large and easily maneuvered by staff and diners. It was easy to select the FGT and she-crab soup from the variety of appetizers that compel you to dream of a banquet ahead. The shellfish and grits were beyond expectations for freshness and savory flavors. My wife had the flounder on local gold rice and asparagus. Nothing is overdone or leaves you wanting. The wines are quality in a humble sized selection, but appropriate for the cuisine. The service is relaxed, attentive, and friendly. It will be difficult to return to Charleston and NOT make a reservation at Magnolia's.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal and best serviceWe had a terrific meal at Magnolias on Friday evening June 6.. I can honestly say my meal of shellfish over grits was one the best meals I have ever experienced.. Everyone at table said the same thing about their meal.. Our waiter Willy was exceptional .. Would highly recommend this restaraunt to anyone visiting Charleston..6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good at What They DoMagnolias is a very high volume high end dining establishment. Among venues striving for maximum plates served per night, it's about as good as it gets. There are better restaurants in Charleston, but they're much, much more expensive.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent but a bit loudFood, service, ambience excellent. I have a hearing loss and the noise level can climb. Asked for a quiet corner when making reservation and one was held for us. Waiter courteous and attentive.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBootyhedWas recommended to us by our son. I will recommend to every one who visits Charleston. Food and service was excellent. Could not have asked for any better. Will definitely visit again when in Charleston.
F.Watson6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnolias was recommendedMagnolias was recommended by local friends. We had flounder that was perfectly cooked and seafood salad that was perfectly assembled. The blend of flavors was strikingly good. Desserts of pecan pie and key lime pie were excellent. Our server was congenial and helpful with recommendations. We will definitely return when we come back to Charleston.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as alwaysThis restaurant is consistently good. We especially like going for lunch. The frogmore stew was excellent as was the spicy shrimp and sausage. But we've never had anything we didn't like here. Service was impeccable. LOVE places that notice when you're wearing dark-colored clothes and bring you a black napkin so you don't get lint all over your clothes from the white napkins. It's paying attention to little details like that that sets Magnolias apart.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMUnreal. That's the word I keep using to describe it. Drinks, appetizers, entree and dessert - all perfection. Our server was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and oh-so-perfectly southern. My husband went with the much raved about fried chicken platter and declared it the best meal he's ever had. We had some great meals in Charleston, but this was our favorite.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing. YouThe food was amazing. You will not be disappointed with this restaurant.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming in CharlestonWe had a fabulous evening dining at Magnolias. From the moment we entered this elegant Old Charleston restaurant we knew we were in for a special dining experience. Our server Genevieve was marvelous. Knowledgable, funny and expert in her suggestions, she helped us choose the perfect meal from Magnolias' menu. We couldn't have asked for a better representation of Charleston's cuisine. We will be going back for sure.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCharleston GemMagnolia's continues to be one of the finest restaurants in Charleston. Refined lowcountry, with fresh, quality ingredients. Crabcakes are all crab, no filler, Seafood & grits includes scallops, lobster and shrimp, no "mystery fish". Service is friendly and attentive without hovering or being intrusive.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Dinner! We had a wonderful dinner at a very reasonable price. Many wines and drinks to choose from and you could eat at the bar if you liked. Our server was so nice and explained the many choices on the menu. I started with the Creamy Tomato Bisque chiffonade with fresh basil and then ordered their Shellfish over Grits consisting of sautéed shrimp, sea scallops, & lobster, creamy white grits, lobster butter sauce, and fried spinach. Their bread was hot and delicious. Too full for dessert but loved every bite of my meal. I would highly recommend Magnolia's for an upscale dining experience.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe shellfish grits was wonderfulI enjoyed my meal a great deal. My husbands pan-seared flounder tasted too much of the oil. The dessert was a disappointment. For the price, the food was good--not quite out of the ballpark but a solid hit.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond VisitSecond time around it was just as great as the first. My wife and I had the brunch and highly recommend it.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWowMy wife and I recently had dinner at Magnolias -- it was one of the more highly recommended restaurants by friends who had been to Charleston. The fried green tomatoes are an absolute must order. Simply put, this was one the best dishes of any variety that I have ever had -- period. As for entrees, my wife got the flounder, which is one of their signature dishes; it was outstanding. I got the porterhouse pork chop -- it was very well prepared, huge, and delicious. Everything on the table really complemented each other. It was an exceptional, memorable experience. Will be at the top of our list when we return to town.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experienceHad a late night dinner and enjoyed Magnolias very much. We enjoyed the boiled peanut hummus and fried green tomatoes to start, followed by the peppercorn crusted tuna and bibb salad. service was wonderful and attentive. Definitely a nice evening out.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great--very inventive.Food was great--very inventive. Service was excellent. Atmosphere eclectic, but a little loud.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding! WaiterFood was outstanding! Waiter was good! Ambience . . . It was really loud when we arrived . . just not as quaint as I was hoping for.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDont miss the Fried GreenDont miss the Fried Green Tomatoes and Pecan Pie. Outstanding food and service.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThanksExcellent meal. My friends had the steak which was delicious and incredibly tender. She raved about it for days. I had the seafood over grits, which was very good, but awfully rich. We all loved the restaurant and would defi Italy go back.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMIdeal BrunchThere were four of us during the Spoleto season so we felt lucky to get a table at the well known Magnolia's. The food was wonderful. My friends and I tasted each other's dishes and were very pleased. The waiter was charming and helpful. The art was very pleasing. If I lived in Charleston, I would try to make this a regular event.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnolia's is a place I haveMagnolia's is a place I have to visit every time I am in Charleston. The food, service, ambience was nothing less than outstanding. A really special dining experience. Don't miss this gem while in Charleston.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to go back here again!!First dined at Magnolias 6 years ago when we last were in Charleston and loved it and again last week and still loved it! Great service, great meal and such a beautiful restaurant to enjoy a wonderful dinner with my husband. Tops on my list of Charleston restaurants.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinner at Magnolia'sWonderful meal - the fried green tomotoes are fanstastic!5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch was excellent. YouBrunch was excellent. You must order the peach fritter poppers, they are outstanding.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect last-night dinnerMy husband and I went to Magnolias our last night in Charleston, and were very impressed with the service, selection, and everything we ordered. We both had a difficult time deciding what to order because everything on the menu sounded great, but our server was really helpful in making suggestions. We ended up with the shellfish over grits and chili rubbed Ahi Tuna, both of which were delicious, as were out appetizers and dessert (banana pudding ice cream made in-house). I would definitely recommend Magnolias to anyone visiting Charleston.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meals!Came for brunch and we enjoyed the meal so much, that my friends & I returned for lunch! The shellfish over grits entree was delicious, as was the fried green tomatoes appetizer. My brunch blue crab Benedict was outstanding.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing mealGreat place for a date, anniversary, or just to have a great meal.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnolia's in CharlstonHad Sunday night dinner here over Memorial Day weekend. Fried Green Tomato and the Radish Salad for appetizers were both excellent, with delicious warm bread. I had the duck, served with roasted okra, corn and boiled peanuts - absolutely wonderful. We split a pecan brownie with white chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce - good but nothing truly special. Our waiter was terrific (Florent) and provided excellent service. There are so many great restaurants in Charlston to choose from but I would return to Magnolia's.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst TimersThe food was top notch and Andrew our server was very knowledgeable of the food, his recommendations were excellent and the food delish.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLives up to expectationsWe were promptly seated in the larger section in the back of the restaurant, the front was more casual and more lively (bar area) I asked for a table near a window. The décor was casual elegance with soft music in the background. Just wish there was more natural light, but it's located between buildings so it's not possible. Having said that, it still felt open and bright.
Our waiter was reserved, not one for small talk but was friendly. The manager stopped by to ask how we enjoyed our dining experience, nice touch.
I would definitely go back and recommend this place for a special evening with a date/spouse/family.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLadies brunchBrunch was delicious! A classic Charleston dining experience!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe just loved Magnolia's forWe just loved Magnolia's for brunch. Our waiter, Gregg, took such good care of us- he was so welcoming and sweet - made us feel right at home after traveling from NY and just arriving. The food was perfect too. I love Magnolia's!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Except For...The only thing was the WAIT. They did not honor our reservations and made us stand. The thing was there were tables available in the back romantic room which were empty and that is where we finally sat. Why does a restaurant make you wait when tables are available. After the bad start every was great!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
