A word from Magnolias
Igniting a culinary renaissance upon opening in 1990, Charleston's most popular restaurant is located at the site of the city's original Customs House (circa 1739). Led by Executive Chef Don Drake, Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with a modern flair for artful presentations. Diner Reviews
  • "There were four of us and everyone's meal was excellent. One had the tuna and raved about it. I had the encrusted flounder and it was exceptional. Each time that we have been to this restaurant our dinners have been absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend Magnolia's for fine dining. We go there for almost all of our special occasions and other times as well."

  • "Thanks for a delicious start to our trip!! The fried green tomato Blt was out of this world, and my husband devoured his crab cakes! The drinks were light and refreshing and the service was all about southern hospitality. I think this was my favorite spot that we tried and with all the delicious food in this city that's saying a lot!"

  • "My husband and I went here for brunch, the food was wonderful, the service was some of the worst we have had in years. We were placed in a corner booth next to a large table. We ordered coffee, our server forgot to the bring it. It took over 30 minutes for our food to come out. The worst was that the table next to us was incredibly close (less than 12 inches) to our table. Whenever the server spoke to the other table, he wedged in between our two tables and his butt was literally 3 inches from my face. Towards the end I think the server knew he was doing a terrible job, it got so bad that we considered getting up and leaving before our food came. Magnolias has some great food, but the service we had was terrible."

  • "Magnolia's proved itself to be a great place eat and lived up to its name among top restaurants in Charleston. I had never been there and expected to be spending a bit on our meals, yet was pleasantly surprised to find the Sunday brunch menu to be very affordable. The environment of Magnolia's is very classic and maintains a high-end vibe, but the people around us varied from families, to older couples, to Charleston visitors."

  • "The best restraunt in town, confirmed by many locals there and at other locations. Fantastic fried green tomatoes and other appetizers. Meal was well above average. Desert was good too. Must have reservations unless you eat late. Well worth the prices. Service was slow for a reason, they treat everyone special. If you are in a hurry, wrong place for you."

  • "The absolute best shrimp and grits I've ever had! Everything we ordered was fresh, inspired and well executed, even the desserts. It has two sister restaurants that, we hear, are equally good. The crowd was diverse yet vibrant, the bar scene was lively with enough noise on a Tuesday night to let you know this was the place to be. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, yet welcoming and down to earth. I will go back again and again."

  • "The highlight of a week of dining in Charleston was Magnolia's. A very nice atmosphere, attentive service. Delicious food. Bibb salad was very good, entrée parmesan crusted flounder was excellent. Pecan Pie among the best in Charleston. Magnolia's is a must for those visiting in Charleston."

  • "I went to magnolias for the first time with my husband on July 4th. I can't say anything bad about this place! I had the duck and my husband had the shellfish and grits. Both were equally spectacular. Our server was phenomenal and even altered my dish slightly to make me even happier :) He had great recommendations as far as beverages and entrees. It was a little loud initially, but we booked a later dinner time, and after about 20-30 minutes the dining area thinned out and it was very nice in there. We will definitely go back any time we visit Charleston!"

  • "From the moment we stepped inside Magnolias, we knew we were in for a treat. The host and server were excellent. Both gave us a warm welcome as we're from California. Each gave us their recommendations. I had the flounder and it was super fresh and oh, so delicious! My hubby had the New York Strip, cooked to perfection! The signature dessert, pecan pie, was a perfect way to end our vacation! An added plus, free parking next door!!"

  • "Lord have mercy is all we could say when we tasted the delectable dishes. This restaurant was recommended to me and my sister as we were on our way to Charleston for the weekend. And, it in no way disappointed. We ordered the pulled pork and I can tell you I have never tasted anything like that in my life! I am still dreaming about it. The fried chicken tasted like my momma made it! And, the sides...don't get me started. The biscuit and gravy, I can't even describe how good that was. In short, just go! Warning: wear expandable clothing because you won't be able to put the fork down!!!!"

  • "Made reservations ahead of time. In the notes section, I asked if we could be seated somewhere secluded since it was our anniversary. When we arrived, we were taken to the back of the restaurant, in the quietest part. We were treated great- definitely recommend it. The food was awesome!"

  • "New updated atmosphere, still with southern charm. Great food, chip/Clemson blue appy a must. Seafood and grits, great. Service was perfect. A must stop on our annual visit to Charleston and we are never disappointed."

  • "We had a group of four diners. We each ordered different meals. All meals arrived together and at the proper temperature. Our server's knowledge of the menu was only exceeded by her enthusasiun for the cusine. As for my dinner, her recommendation was spot on and I totally enjoyed it. All the diners at our table had nothing negative to say about the entire experience."

  • "We went to Charleston to celebrate an anniversary and saw that Magnolias had great reviews and an interesting menu. Several people at the B&B where we stayed also recommended it. We were not disappointed. Amazing meal and fantastic service. We had their signature dish of seafood over grits. It could not have been better."

  • "It had been at least ten years since I dined at Magnolia's. Hopefully it won't be that long for my next fantastic dining experience in this great Charleston landmark. The flounder was rated first class by my wife. Searching for a change of pace from seafood, I had the buttermilk fried chicken. While it was delightful, the highlight was the collards served with the chicken. No stalks and the flavor was perfect. Next trip to Charleston this will be my first stop."
