Diner Reviews
  • "We found this by way of Open Table and we were wonderfully surprised. I was able to get a delicious glass of Riesling, without have to get an entire bottle. My husband had the special which was prime rib, perfectly prepared. We also had an amazing sweet potato polenta. This was my first time and I will most assuredly be putting Magnolias in my restaurant rotation."

  • "Second time in a row. We hit the Mill once a month or so. Not sure if something has changed, but last few experiences very so so. Flatbread pizza overcooked and mega salty. Special beef brisket very average. Special wedge salad left a lot to be desired. Seated in the over flow room probably didn't help either. Key lime pie saved the day. Hoping we get back to the excellence we've grown accustomed to."

  • "Had a wonderful evening. Service was excellent. Our server, Angie, was very gracious and accommodated our leisurely pace. She was very patient and helpful with our questions and dietary restrictions."

  • "had heard about this place for a while and finally got out there. it was good, not great. staff was friendly but our server got bogged down with some larger tables and things got pretty slow towards the end of the meal. i hate it when you have to wait forever to get a coffee refill or your check. that's the last impression you have of a place and it's not good. if i went back i would go for lunch and sit on the deck. we had salmon and trout. tasty but not spectacular."

  • "We simply loved our experience at Magnolia at the Mill restaurant. The service was excellent, the ambience was unique, and most importantly, the food was great. We wanted to try everything on the menu and hope to return many times in the future to do just that!! We loved the interesting appetizers which involved unexpected combinations of flavored which worked really well together. Also, we have two young infants and they were more than accommodating. Kept out food warm while we were distracted with diaper changes and brought it out literally within seconds of us returning to the table again. Also, they have slings for the car seats which worked very well for the car seats."

  • "The food was great!! Waitress had too many tables to serve and did not visit us often."

  • "We had dinner here for a special occasion, although we sat out on the enclosed porch area, we were hoping to be seated inside with the lovely looking wooden beams. The food was delicious, but it was just a tad bit loud on the porch area with people. The wait staff were wonderful."

  • "This is our Go-To restaurant. Great food, specials are just that-Special I'm a beer snob and they have a great selection of beers, good selections of wine Paella, Shrimp and Grits rock!"

  • "The staff was great and the service what I expected. I was very surprised by the absolute quality of the food. I had the Chielan Bass and my husband the prime rib; both easy to mess up but Magnolias' executed them perfectly."

  • "We always stop at Magnolia's on our way to a couple of days away in Virginia for our home in PA. What a wonderful way to break up a 3 hour drive! The food is always delicious, the service friendly and attentive and the atmosphere relaxing. Nice wine list and lots of choices of spirits."

  • "We have been going to Magnolias for some time because it was close to where we live and there were not many alternatives in Purcellville. The facility is wonderful but the service has been consistently poor. After getting a table it takes a long time and multiple calls to a server to even get the some bread and the wine order delivered. Overall service is extremely slow independently of the amount of guests in the restaurant. Food is of average quality and definitely not exceptional. Now that alternatives are available in Purcellville and in nearby Lovettsville, this may be our last visit to Magnolias. We will miss the beautiful setting however."

  • "Great place to take your closest friends and parents for a celebration or one dear friend for catching up. The way the place has been restored is not only very aesthetically appealing but sound deadening -- they can have a crowd but you can easily converse with others at your table. Delighted an historic structure was saved and repurposed in such a wonderful way."

  • "So glad Magnolia's is nearby! We recently moved and were disappointed at the lack of quality restaurants in the area but Magnolia's is fantastic. We've ordered the Cuban nachos on every visit. I particularly enjoyed the filet mignon on our last visit. I like my steak done medium well and it can be tough to get that but it was perfect. Service is lovely- friendly but not invasive. Love this place!"

  • "I make it a habit to try the fried green tomatoes whenever they are offered and these one's at Magnolia's were the best I've ever had. If you like fried green tomatoes, you've got to try these! Our group had two Sea Bass plates and two Prime Rib plates as our main courses. The prime rib was perfectly done, as ordered (rare) and the Sea Bass, while underdone initially, was happily taken back to the kitchen for additional grilling and returned promptly with a refresh of the vegetable sides. Very tasty the second time around. Service was attentive, prompt, and pleasant while allowing us plenty of time to dine at our own leisure."

  • "We live nearby but have an apartment in the city. Being in the city during the week provides a wonderful choice of dinning and culinary delights. When coming home for the weekend we often dine at Magnolias because it offers the same quality and atmosphere of city establishments. We have brought out of town guest, local neighbors and family to this restaurant for years. It always provides excellent atmosphere, food and service. Once a water issue cause the restaurant to shut down part of the kitchen. With apologies service was still excellent as was our food. This is a true gem for Purcellville. One that we will be back many times."

  • "I made reservations for me and a friend of mine who was coming for a visit from out of town. I requested a booth and we were seated in one right away. The service was excellent and the food was great except for the prime rib I ordered. It was not cooked enough. I didn't say anything because I don't like to send food back. The drinks we ordered were very good, and my friend was happy with her ravioli."

  • "It is the rare restaurant that continues to improve across many years, but this is one of them. Long the best restaurant locally, Magnolia's manages to find ways to get better and better as time passes. Every menu item is worth trying, and the very professional service solution seriously adds to the experience."

  • "Enjoyed the wonderful buffet on St Patrick's Day! The corned beef was the best I've ever had. The corned beef "sliders" were amazing and the Irish Stew delicious. The salmon, green eggs, potatoes and everything else were great! Nice Irish music also added to the ambiance as we enjoyed a great Irish meal."

  • "Magnolia's is a little pricey, but it is so worth it. It has excellent food with fresh organic and locally-produced items (even a gluten free menu, constantly changing daily specials and knowledgeable and friendly staff. We're locals and this has become our go-to place for my husband and I and visiting friends and family."

  • "Entrees, lamb chops and pasta with seafood, were outstanding. Especially good was a pear salad starter. Superb wine list. The ambience is unique and comfortable; decibel levels are low enough for easy conversation; relaxed but excellent!"

  • "What a wonderful eatery with stunning architecture from its old mill days and food unmatched by other 5 - star restaurants. The wine list was extensive and the ambience extraordinary. All this at a reasonable price. We are going back next Friday!!"

  • "Magnolia's is one of those places where you are better off sticking with an assortment of appetizers, rather than ordering off the main menu. The burger is an exception to that rule as is the shrimp and grits, a perennial favorite. Our biggest complaint is that the food is a bit on the bland side. Liberal use of the salt shaker is evident however an Asian noodle dish lacked any kick. We had to request some hot pepper flakes to liven up the taste."

  • "We always choose Magnolias to have our midwives meeting because they are always accommodating of our needs of a quiet, private space. The food is always wonderful and the service top-notch! (Thanks Rob!)"

  • "We were so excited to try the place as we had heard so many good things about it. It was good, but not great. There's nothing to criticize and nothing notable either. The outdoor patios was lovely and the food was ok."

  • "Always have a great menu selection to accomodate a variety of taste and diet preferences. I love the small town atmosphere and the special touches they add to make you feel special for your Birthday."

  • "Our dinner at Magnolia's was really great, and though the place was super crowded the food did not suffer. The pecan crusted rainbow trout with polenta and brussel sprouts was over the top delicious as was the filet and pizza. And then the dessert knocked it outta the park....banana bread pudding with caramel and ice cream. Can't wait to go back again soon."
